A proposal was submitted to the CEO Sophix suggesting that Rome be assessed pollution credits, and pay other nations for the damage which will inevitable occur.

Cairo seems all too happy to take credit for the generous distribution of Fuel Cells to the rest of the World - indeed a worthy gesture and one for which the great Pharoah is indeed to be applauded!

However what our benificent Pharoah neglects to mention is that he originally requested a trade of Robotics for Corporate Government... The Great Caligula himself realised that we should be fighting pollution - not contributing to it, and changed the trade to Fuel Cells! Of course with a keen eye on trades outside of the Roman Empire, Caligula knew that the Egyptians would undoubtedly pass this advance onto the others...

Rome will suffer just as badly from this - if not moreso! And therefore sees no reason why she should compensate anyone. Much less those who will do her harm...

We shall however consider a more realistic proposal...

BTW, Roman scientists report imminent Global Warming warnings with a "0" turn time to catastrophe...!!!

And still no nation's scientists seem to be getting the same data. Assyria's best information puts the figure at 19 turns.

We wish to thank Egypt for their gift of Fuel cells, and announce that Assyria is now constructing 4 Eco-Transits in the hopes of postponing the Catastrophe. This on top of more recycling plants being built, as well as nuclear plants. How could all of this not make a difference?

But the goverment is taking prudent steps, and has moved the Winter Palace of the King inland to a secluded mountaintop location.

Actions are also being taken to stop speculators, who are buying up property adjacent to coastal swamp in the hopes of a big payday after a flood in the form of beachfront property! This kind of profiteering upon a calamaty will not be tolerated!

We wait to see what the next readings will portend...

The Corporate government is complete. As expected Sophix was voted in as CEO and Chairman of board by the Egyptian stockholders. The new form of government promised to double scientific output, and raise the standard of living thru-out Egypt, but most importantly the new government will maximize shareholder wealth.

The Enviromental division reported that 19 turn remains the estimate to global disaster; also that they will work with Rome to bring about the most equitable agreement to minimize loss, should Roman estimates prove correct.

After a weeks worth of PERVing I feel that it is time to return to the helm of power, and it seems that the environmental situation is still none the better.

Hopefully Welsh scientists, armed with the latest PERVing pictures will be able to give a true and accurate date on Environmental Catastrophe, but in the meantime, we ask that all nations continue to double their efforts.

The global disaster so long-predicted has come to pass, and the devastation is indeed terrible to behold.

All of Assyria mourns the loss of life in Nimurta. This was once a great and happy city, but is now but a ruin submerged deep beneath the waves. Although an evacuation had been ordered, many chose to stay behind, and it has been confirmed that all who remained were killed by the rising waters. Overnight, a city of 8 has vanished from the face of the earth, only the now empty fishery giving testimony to the fact that so many people once lived there.

The Assyrian Red Cross is on the scene handing out doughnuts and coffee.

The raging flood-waters took their most horrific toll in Wales, and our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to their people. Demosthenes, we share your sorrow as we share the loss of life.

The earth has been reshaped by the forces unleashed by man, and a report on what has occurred will follow. But what makes this even more tragic is that it wasn't some random act of nature, but was the result of man's own actions. And now, as scientists predict an even more devastating event a mere 43 cycles into the future, leaders of the world must work as one to take the actions that will prevent this from ever taking place. Our future depends on this.

King Rick

-------------------------------------------------------------
Report from the Assyrian Army Corp of Engineers
--------------------------------------------------------------

Flood waters have affected most of the earth. Although the flooding was characterized as "minor", some of the effects have been horrible, and it is too early to estimate the loss of life worldwide.

Assyrian scientists are able to survey all of the world, as an after-effect of the disaster seems to be an ability to see the entire world, although we believe that this is a temporary phenomenon.

As was anticipated, swamplands were flooded first, and all cities built on them sank as the waters rose.

The most extensive flooding took place in Wales, where it is estimated that at least 4 cities have been lost on the swampy northern coast. A piece of land remains as a tiny island there, with the listening post still intact, but the city is now gone. Crabs have migrated to the newly submerged areas. A macabre sight is the old road clearly visible beneath the new waters. Ironically, it also appears that some of the rivers of Wales may have been shortened.

The loss in Assyria of one city was less than what was sufferd by our brothers in Wales, but was devastating nonetheless. A couple of small new rivers have appeared, as the floods ate away at the land. Other existing rivers were reshaped. More surveying will be required.

It appears that Egypt suffered no damage, and may have gained a small river between Isis and Tanis.

The change in Roman lands was most dramatic, for although it appears that no cities were lost, huge and extensive rivers were created.

A 17-square river now stretches from Bubastis to Florentina, a 16-square mountain river from Praetor to Byzantium, a 12-square river from Marcus Aurelius to Leptus magma, a 28-square river from Ancron to Augustodunum , and a 26-square river from Brubdisium to Syracuse have all been created, as well as other smaller rivers and re-configurations. These seem to be the largest existing rivers in the world.

These are all preliminary findings, and more study is needed to catalogue all the changes wrought upon the earth, but it is clear that if this is the effect of a "minor' event, than a major one predicted in 43 cycles will have an unimaginable effect upon the planet, and be undoubtedly worse. This must be avoided at all costs.

Turn 120 ==> Mobius

Today Wales mourns the loss of innocent life. It is estimated that 2 million Welsh souls perished in the flooding that has devasted the northern Welsh coastline. The cities of Penarth, Chepstow, Hollyhead and Gwaelod have all been been claimed by the sea.

And what punishment is this?! Wales is the lowest polluting nation in the world, and yet we suffer the heaviest. Whilst Wales loses sisters and brothers, and great cities of peace, other nations gain new resources and plentiful rivers.

We now estimate that unless pollution is reduced, even more major environmental disasters will occur in 60 turns. However, Welsh scientists are taking around 30 turns off this estimate as we were proved to be around thirty turns wrong, at the cost of so many lives.

The resentment felt towards the Communist government for failing to deliver fellow Comrades from harm was felt across the nation, and the corporations took advantage of this, offering the people of Wales the opportunity to start afresh, and build upon this terrible loss.

And so the Corporate Republic of Wales is born, amid much promise of a brighter future for all Welsh people, and a pledge to force the other nations of the world to turn back from their selfish ways and think not of themselves, but of humanity as a whole.

We demand that a reduction in pollution be forthcoming, and soon, or else it will not only be Welsh lives lost when Mother Nature returns in vengeance.

It is with great sorrow that Rome has learned of the destruction of at least 5 Welsh and Assyrian cities to global warming...

Let us spend a minute's silence in rememberance of the millions of innocent lives lost...

We all tried to combat the effects of pollution, but unfortunately we have lost the battle - but not the WAR!

As for compensation to the states affected, Rome does feel culpable due to her Lion's share of the pollution output. She therefore proposes the following initiative...

1) An offer of compensation to Assyria

2) No offer of compensation to Egypt due to her actually benefitting from the floods!

3) No offer of compensation to Wales - in spite of Wales' excessive losses, Rome feels she cannot aid financially a country guilty of plotting and declaring war against Rome... This self same country is also guilty of aggressively patrolling our maritime borders with a fleet roughly double that of the Brave Roman Coast Guard and periodically threatening violence against Roman interests.

Rome cannot condone this excessive form of sabre rattling and hopes that it was the product of the Communist government that has been recently deposed...

It is also to be noted the implied threat of violence against Assyria, given that she is currently the World's largest polluter... Rome has no explanation as to the miraculous decrease in pollution by her Empire - it is as mystifying as it's advent...

Rome asks the rest of the World to join her in offering Assyria support in her time of need and asks her politely to consider the effects of her pollution on the environment.

Rome also confirms Wales' concern that the new Welsh estimate for the next phase of pollution is woefully wrong - the answer is 19 turns!!!

Turn 120--> Sophanthro

It is becoming increasingly clear in Assyria that the methods the world is using to measure both pollution by nations and each city's share in that pollution are misleading at best and dangerous at worst.

The idea that Assyria should be the leading polluter seems absurd, as we have just finished our first Ecotransits in cities that already show zero pollution in the city staus windows. Do we believe negative pollution readings or the readings from the Diplomatic windows?

No matter, for the readings are even stranger than that, as I will explain.

Popular sentiment has driven the Communists from the goverment, and Assyria is also embracing the coporate solution in an effort to help fight worl-wide pollution. But hear this now:

Immediately before choosing Corporate Republic, we consulted the pollution ranking graph, and found that while Rome had indeed made an almost unbelievable reduction in their pollution, Assyria was also sharply lower, while Wales remained constant, but Egypt had spiked sharply upward. The time to disaster was given as 39 turns. This is all different than what has been reported by other nations.

Immediately after Assyria entered anarchy, the graph had changed to show Rome's pollution was now through the roof, while all other nations also rose to a much lessor extent in their contribution.

Combine these inconsistancies with the fact that no two of us have ever received the same information from the countdown-to-disaster ticker.

So we do not have much faith in the accuracy of measuring methodology, but that does not mean we do not believe the threat is real. For we have seen the results firsthand. We wish to thank Rome for their support and warm words during these sad times, and would welcome any aid the Roman government may be willing to provide. The Assyrian Red Cross will funnel such aid to the displaced and needy victims of the disaster.

We also feel it needs to be said that while part of the blame may be lain at Rome's doorstep, it is clear that the Roman goverment also made a valiant effort to reverse the process once the situation became clear. If blame is to be assigned, than so should credit.

Threats and blame will not bring back the dead. Only the combined efforts of us all can prevent an even worse calamity.

As Assyria struggles through the transition to a new, less-polluting goverment, we maintain our steadfast committment to this cause.

Shock horror , Rome has suddenly dropped her pollution by such magnitudes that defy belief. How is it that only now, after so many have perished, that you find the ability to clean up your act?

As for repairations, we never sought nor expected any, but are unsurprised by your need to make a public statement of how Wales will not benefit from your new found generosity.

All we in Wales ever wanted was to be left in peace of our island, which we are still unable to do with your stealth planes circling above our heads, and your submarines lurking beneath the water. We mount coastal patrols to keep an eye on our closest neigbour, who has rarely been neighbourly.

Do not try to refute this, we can see your stealth vehicles on Welsh territory and on the Welsh coast. We have given up requesting that you stop tresspassing, as it seems to fall upon deaf ears.

Cariad,
Demosthenes.

I'm sending an email to everyone on my ctp list. Mail might get thru to my zxmail account, but sending mail there is like playing russian roulette.

Oh one last thing I will be unable to play my turns from Nov 22 - Nov 28. I'll be looking for subs; and Christmas break is looking sketchy but that's way to far away to say anything for sure.

Now to cut and paste this message all over Apolyton.

What a difference a day makes...64 turns to the next disaster, with Assyria now showing the lowest pollution levels of the planet. Not that I trust these figures!

Great thanks are due Rome for their help during Assyria's time of need. We are indeed stunned by the generosity of the people of Caligula's nation. The widows and orphans of the flood will find solace from your largess and their children will hold your name dear for generations!

The winter palace by the sea has been mopped of the last remnant of flood waters, and having decided that it is now safe, King Rick has returned from his bunker in the mountains.

Press Release
--------------
Egypt's COO Osar Gesafat announced today the pollution levels are expected rise within Egypt. He stated that this action should be temporary. Stating that pollution had been kept at unrealistic levels in the past, and had inhibited production; pollution will be brought back in line shortly, once the necessary structures are in place.

On a lighter note Egypt has entered the genetic age with the discovery of robotics.

Wall Street Journal
(dateline-Ninevah)

In a move that surprised analysts with its speed, Assyrico launched its IPO today.

A multinational corporation involved in many endeavours, Assyrico "intends to expend its greatest energies on the development of Intellectual Properties", explained King Rick in a speech to the Board of Directors today.

"Beaver and Crab are the Brick & Mortar commodities of yesterday. Having invented the Internet, we must now go beyond such "buggy-whip" relics into a bold new digital future" he said.

Assyrico is said to be quite happy with its liquidity, but intends to "speed up the assembly lines" in an effort to spur its workers to increased productivity.

Stock prices soared as analysts reacted to the new corporate reorganization. The chief vizier of the Assyrian National Bank announced no sign of inflation.

An additional fact that bears commenting on:

The Conglomerate formerly known as Assyria now has the lowest pollution in the world. Our mega-producing cities don't even show up on the list of polluting cities, after having built Eco-Transits.

With an estimated 83 turns to the next disaster, the world seems to have a bit more breathing room.

Sorry guys, we've hit a small problem with the house moving, and so I've got to shoot down to London for a couple of days to sort it out, especially as we're supposed to be moving on Sunday November 12th. I hope to be back by this Tuesday.

I hope you understand that moving house is more important right now than my hobby, and I apologise at the short notice, but there's nothing I can do about that though I'm afraid. Due to the short notice I've not been able to bring any subs onboard, however, simply open and end my turn so that the game doesn't stall.

Once again my apologies. All being well we shall be moving next weekend, and after that all systems should return to normal, no more absenteeism

Hope you all understand.
