Welcome back, MOBIUS!

I'm not sure which thread we should be using, so I'll post to both. My guess is that the Emperor was too jet-lagged to find the original post!!

Assyrian bluebirds have stopped coughing, and squirrels no longer brush soot from their fur, but instead gaze in happiness at fresh blue skies! For today saw the opening of 3 new Recycling Plants, with 3 more soon to come.

The divine Emperor Caligula himself is back from walking amongst his people!

Landing at the port of Genoa, his entourage toured first the port of Portofino and the villages of Cinque Terre, before heading inland to admire the spectacle of Pisa's 'Campo di Miracoli'... Thence a trip to Florence was in order, followed by a brief respite in Siena - the Emperor's favourite part of the Empire! Onwards to Rome itself, with visits to the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel, the Forum, the Colliseum and many other sites. Finally the Imperator decided that a trip to the South was called for so that he could see the destruction wrought on Pompeii first hand and climb to the top of Vesuvius (unfortunately the view was obscured by clouds!). Basing himself in Naples, Caligula also found time to visit the island of Capri - home to the villas of his old chum Tiberius...

Diplomatic links have been established with Wales, however the Romans are dismayed to find that the Welsh are still a communist regime... An urgent council on the Palatine hill has been convened regarding this matter!

The Pharaoh urged the Rome to accept the Welsh communism, stating that Communism was the best government for Wales in order for them to build up their infrastructure; and that they did not believe it was caused by a desire to build an inordinately sized army.

To avoid any further confusion, yes, the Comrades of Wales have decided that they wish to stay living under the wise rule of Demsothenes and the Communist spirit. We cannot be bullied into changing something that we feel is in our best interests. Indeed, it is in the best interests of all that Wales stays under Communist rule.

Welsh scientists have detected that we have less than 50 turns before global catastrophe occurs. In the meantime, the Communist regimes of Wales AND Assyria have been busy lowering their pollution, whilst the Fascists of Rome are continuing to raise theirs!!

Rome cannot now try to force Wales (nor Assyria for that matter) into changing government for environmental reasons. Indeed, it should be the rest of the world convincing Rome to change hers!

Of the top thirty polluting cities, 20 are Roman, whilst only 3 are Welsh. Not a SINGLE Welsh city exceeds a pollution rating of 90, let alone 100, which if you cast your minds back 100 was the stipulated level that Caligula dictated upon both himself and I!! The top five polluting cities of Wales still fail to emit more filth than Brundisium and Abusir, who have truly earned their titles of the World's Dirtiest Cities.

With Wales recent cleanup of pollution, and another four Recycling Plants due to come online within three turns, the Communist Government of Wales has truly shown it's environmental credentials.

All this boils down to the Fascists desire to take control of Wales. This petty war between us resulted from a rash decision to execute a spy that was undeniably in violation of the soveriegnty of Wales. The tresspassing and espionage was an act of war, which Wales reciprocated with the covert agents death. We regret that this happened, but the past cannot be changed.

Wales has no desire to be at war with the Fascists of Rome, and has proven this by not attacking any Roman troops. All Roman casualties have come from failed Roman attacks of Welsh troops, and not from Welsh offensive victories.

Added to this is the continued drive in Wales to stave off the eminent threat of global pollution. Perhaps Caligula could be persuaded to turn to Communism to reduce his pollution, as the comrades of Wales are getting tired from cleaning up the filth that keeps washing up on the shores of Southern Wales.

I have no desire to attack or be at war with Rome. I have more than shown that Communism is truly able to deal with Global pollution.

And therefore, Caligula, you have no case, whatsoever, in trying to force an unwelcome change in Wales. We would appreciate it if this was now the end of the matter and that Cardiff and Rome can pick up the pieces and begin to restore normal relations once again.

The pro consul Albertius Speericus has indeed proved wanting during this teesting time and has been removed from office...

Rest assured further building projects have been put in motion with both Abusir and Brundisium both being targetted curbing of their pollution output!

Our people are glad to see the spirit of cooperation has taken hold of all governments as we all work toward the common goal of averting an environmental disaster.

While we sadly observe that our own pollution readings have gone up today, we note that another Recycling Plant will be completed by the time of our next communication, with more finishing right on its heels.

Assyria is delighted to see the nations of the world come together in peace. And not a moment too soon, as the spectre of imminent Global warming has been raised! For our part, we have finished yet another Recycling Plant today, and are busy turning old copies of the Ninevah Times into Lawn Gnomes.

One question we must ask in all seriousness:
having watched a river square turn black from the loss of the ozone layer, we wish to know if terraforming will work on these blackened squares the world now suffers, and will it keep the river on that square intact? Any help from the world scientific community will be greatly appreciated.

As the Egypt as yet to deal with pollution they couldn't answer the Assyrian question for sure. They were pretty sure that the removal of pollution was possible, but that a certain technology was required to do so. They believed that it was conservation, but couldn't say for sure.

The Pharaoh asked Rome to state which city they were planning to send the diplomat, in order to prepare a welcoming party.

The Pharaoh also prayed that the leaders of the world especially the leaders of Rome would make serious and comprehensive steps to reduce pollution. As the Memphis Enviromental Institute believes that given current rates of pollution, a calamity will occur in 34 years (turns)

Turn 108 ==> Mobius

People of the world, one of the following three events has occured:

1) Egyptian scientists have made incorrect assumptions on the progress of global warming.

2) Welsh scientists have made incorrect assumptions on the progress of global warming.

3) Neither nationality has made incorrect assumptions on global warming, and pollution between both readings has simply increased.

Our reasoning behind this? Welsh scientists conclude that we have but ONE solitary and short year before global catastrophe strikes!! Welsh scientists have beleived this to be the case before, but measures were taken to stem the tide of ever-increasing environmental damage.

This time around Wales has made an undeniable effort at pollution reduction. Pontypridd is now the only Welsh city to be polluting over the level of 50 (52 in fact). All other Welsh cities produce less than fifty in pollution.

This is put to the productive capabilities of Communism, ensuring that all major cities in Wales have the most up-to-date pollution reducing technologies, utilising them to their fullest.

However, whilst the Communists of Wales and Assyria have made pollution reductions, easily noted in recent research results, the Romans have indeed made a drastic INCREASE in pollution!!! How can this be?

As the leader of Wales, I will go out on a limb and state that I believe the Roman Empire is not making any effort to curb her pollution what so ever. An to even think that we bowed down to Rome's insistance that we reduce our own pollution!

The Egyptians, despite have cities of equal size and granduer to those of Rome, do not even pollute over a level of 20, and in doing so shame us all.
I would like to hold Egypt up as an example for us all to aspire to.

I hope that the Assyrian and Egyptians will join me in calling for Rome to reduce her pollution immediately, else we all suffer the terrible wrath of nature.

We apologise for the continuing pollution problems posed by the Roman Empire, but such is the vastness of our territory that it is difficult to quickly communicate such requests to our peoples...

Rome takes exception to the claim that we are doing nothing to curb pollution, having probably instituted more anti pollution measures than any other nation... Our output is not increasing drastically as Wales would have the World believe - this turn it has stabilised! Next turn should be similar, but the turn thereafter the Imperator expects a significant decrease in emissions.

Roman scientists believe there are still 12 turns to avert catastrophe - not the one turn suggested by Wales. Rome asks the other nations of the World to not be swayed by the blatant scaremongering tactics employed by our Welsh neighbours!

As experts in combating pollution, Rome advises our good neighbours the Assyrians that the effects of polluted wastelands can indeed be combatted by terraforming the afflicted - it is an expensive process and one best avoided altogether. Indeed, this itself is another example why the Roman Empire is serious about pollution control...

Rome advises our cordial neighbours, the Egyptians that our Diplomat has left Abusir on his way to the Egyptian city to the West...

Turn 108--> Sophanthro

There is much change in the world.

The Roman people have seen fit to rebuild their cities in a new and more modern way to commemorate their entry into the Genetic Age.

The Welsh have almost completed a breakthrough that will allow them to see the entire world.

The Egyptians are on the verge of re-establishing diplomatic relations that we hope will lead them to a lasting peace.

And in Assyria, we are building facilities that will harness the power of the atom to supply us with power at the same time that we fight pollution. Meanwhile our scientists promise us new wonders very soon, but decline to tell even their King what this might be.

We do have to wonder what a Mobile SAM with a RED shield is doing in Egypt? Mighty Pharaoh, are there problems with Barbarians on Egyptian soil? The world thought we had seen the last of these international terrorists right before that unfortunate business with the former Incan empire. If help is needed in dealing with this riff-raff, you have only to ask and we will send aid.

We must ask a question of the wise leaders of Rome and Wales:
Why do you anticipate a world disaster so soon, when our own readings indicate 33 turns before this would take place?

Not that this isn't too soon for comfort. Our own measures will hopefully help postpone this day of reckoning, but we also join the Welsh in their urgent calls for Rome to strive even harder to bring down their own pollution.

Emperor Caligula, we feel sure that the Roman effort has already been considerable. But surely there is more that a nation with your resources can do to help the entire world escape much loss and suffering.

The results of all our actions in the days ahead will have huge impact upon the weeks following.

Rome expects a significant reduction in pollution output in the next turn!

Wise Demos, the Imperator decided that your Diplomat had got lost trying to find his way home to Wales - therefore a helping hand was extended...

As for our sleek and modern submarines, these are all nuclear powered and therefore 'clean' - unless of course damaged by a hostile attack...

The same cannot be said for Wales' ageing and obsolete Battleship squadrons which must be polluting our mutual sea lanes as we speak...

Wales has no right to demand the withdrawal of Roman naval vessels from NEUTRAL WATERS - or for the decommissioning thereof! Rome wishes to lodge a formal complaint with regards this matter and hopes for a suitable response from Wales...
