Leadership:

Leaders should be elected every two months, or within a week of a previous leader stepping down. Leaders should have responsibilties of directing short-term policy, encouraging party activeness (i.e. via PMs to party members), establsihing policy threads, chats, and manual polls when neccessary.

Long-term policy:

1. Concentrate on and encourage internal development, overseas exploration, and domestic expansion, as well as development of technology and trade resources.
2. Avoid war, unless this interferes with the first objective in a critical and unavoidable manner.
3. Attempt to acheive long-term allies in order to foster trade, and supplement our nation's defensive situation.
4. Aim to acheive Space Exploration or Cultural victory.
5. Aim to increase cultural, trade, and science spending over military largesse.

On Disbandment and Continued Activity:

Possibly, much organized political opposition may evaporate. In this case, the DIA should retain the above policy, and continue to be active, but change stance so as to be supportive to government operations and help ensure the smooth running of Apolytonia. In short, we may be forced to apapt to a one party political climate, but I beleive that if this occurs, it will be short lived regardless. Future technolgical advancements as well as additional government types supportive of war, and yet maintaining a decent economy, i.e. communism, should create circumstances where new political parties will form, which will not share the DIAs peaceful outlook.

I will continue to be available this week for chat excepting Saturday, all Sundays after this, and at certain times during the week, which I will post once there is a better idea of what other people's schedules are.

We are a builder party and as such, we must push for improving our cities and surrounding land as much as is practical. Although we have the advantage now, it will not be long before other civs will catch up. Techs are getting more expensive and techwhoring will not be viable soon.

The only way for us to win is to develop our cities to increase our production, culture, and science output. We finally have the land through recent conquests so let's use it. We cannot conquest forever. Eventually, corruption will cripple our empire if we do so.

Therefore, we must support a more peaceful, builder policy instead of more warfare less we fall behind.

I'll be advalible for the chat all day from 6:00 PM GMT till 4:00 AM

I agree.

I suggest the Party VP should be selected by the President himself, and serve as an aid to the President. The Vice President could perhaps maintain up-to-date records on party members, among other things...

100% Agree.

If the DIA is to be a powerhouse, let us use this power to help get things done faster, and more smoothly.

Here's the Charter so far guys:

Section I: Preamble:

The People Of Apolytonia, wishing not to be denied their Unalienable Rights, Life, Liberty, and The Pursuit of Wealth and Happiness, hereby organize this political organization, The Democratic Industrialists of Apolytonia. The nation shall have her rights entire, and her liberties inviolate as long as the Democratic Industrialists of Apolytonia safeguard the land against bloodshed and tyranny. We have witnessed a series of horrific wars, and this party shall not allow the deaths of our brethren to continue. So it is that that we here, with the publication of this Charter, highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation, under The Great Banana, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

Section II: Leadership:

There shall be four (4) DIA leadership positions:

1. The President: The President shall be elected by public mandate every 2 months, or within a week of the previous President stepping down. Should have responsibilities of directing short-term policy, encouraging party activeness (i.e. via PMs to party members), establishing policy threads, chats, and manual polls when necessary.
2. The Vice President: The Vice President shall be appointed by the President. In the event of the President stepping down, the Vice President will act as Interim President for the 1-week election period. The Vice President will assist in encouraging party activeness, establishing threads, chats, and polls, and advise the President.
3. The Public Relations Officer: The PR officer shall be a volunteer posting, appointed by the President but not required to hold any set term. The PR Officer will be responsible for maintaining a good outward appearance, promote DIA interests in the forums, and do other Public duties.
4. Government Liaison: The Government Liaison shall be appointed by the President. The Government Liaison will assist the government of Apolytonia in any capacity, as described Section III, and attempt to encourage Minister Policy to meet our goals.

Section III: Long-term policy:

1. Concentrate on and encourage internal development, overseas exploration, and domestic expansion, as well as development of technology and trade resources.
2. Avoid war, unless this interferes with the first objective in a critical and unavoidable manner.
3. Attempt to achieve long-term allies in order to foster trade, and supplement our nation's defensive situation.
4. Aim to achieve Space Exploration or Cultural victory.
5. Aim to increase cultural, trade, and science spending over military largesse.

Section IV: On Disbandment and Continued Activity:

Possibly, much organized political opposition may evaporate. In this case, the DIA should retain the above policy, and continue to be active, but change stance so as to be supportive to government operations and help ensure the smooth running of Apolytonia. In short, we may be forced to adapt to a one party political climate, but I believe that if this occurs, it will be short lived regardless. Future technological advancements as well as additional government types supportive of war, and yet maintaining a decent economy, i.e. communism, should create circumstances where new political parties will form, which will not share the DIAs peaceful outlook.

Section V: Public Elections:

In order to direct the Apolytonian people in an apt and acceptable manner, and accomplish our goals expediently, the DIA hopes to support a candidate for every Ministerial position during elections. DIA members who wish to run under the DIA party platform are strongly encouraged to do so.

lol, yeah, nimitz, that would be a good idea. I took that section right out of my first post, oops.

Panag, it's really not a col, persay. the only col thing about it is the leadership section. I'm sure that once we have a charter instated, it won't fundamentally change the way we've been running it, aside from having an organized leadership, and being together on goals. If you don't like the goals or the leadship secion, please suggest your own way of doing things. I can see how having a government liaison might be a little too, um... "political", and if people don't like it, I will take that out.

Any other comments?

War usually helps most of the former. And if I'm reading this right, you are saying that we should only avoid war if it will interfere with the first policy. Maybe you should clarify that avoiding war is the act that you do not want to interfere with the former, not the actual war.

Unless being the key word in that trevman. We will avoid war, unless we simply can't. If you program it's:
If(possible): Avoid War
Not(avoiding it interferes with our internal development unavoidably): Declare War

War should be avoided, unless we end up in a situation that unless war occurs, than we are certain to stagnate. Like being stuck in the middle of a jungle.

Good job Thud! I await the first new, probaby uncontested elections.

I must say that the first challange might be to make parties relevant. The war-expansion side got the uper hand, but Uber's Isle gives us an issue and a way to expand without war, and we must push that. I think we also have to push the issues of large projects, like FP, and the need to consolidate and imrove our holdings. In short, we have to reintroduce the party to the public, and strongly sell the notion that wars of expansion are not the only way to expand.

Good point GePap, with the elections perhaps being uncontested, it is important (as I stated earlier) to find candidates for as many positions as possible.

Thud, I am wondering what the DIA view of the current war is. Do you support a war for the pyramids and the luxuries or would you prefer we stop after gordium. I'm just curious since we are all one government we should all work together. Also congradulations on your victory.
