How is it possible for this city to support that many units (see screen shot in the next post)?

Whats to explain? The workers are not from the "lost civ" Note the culture lines. Even if they were, I'd give the same reply.

You answer too soon, I'm still uploading the second image. Please look at the second picture and see if you can explain it. How come a city of size 1 be able to support that many units? I have savegame for it too, 100 years later, that city (still in size 1) continue to support that many units.

Is it a trick-question, or you really don't know?

OK, my guess:

1. Is it the only city? Units are no longer supported by the city that produced them, they are supported by the civilization as a whole.

2. Maybe they are captured workers. You don't have to pay maintenance for captured units.

Interesting screenshot. What's the story behind it?

Here is my worldmap, as you see there is no other civ left. I let the Iroquois live with 1 city of size 1 in iceland. The reason that city name 'Lost Civilization' because I built it and give it to the Iroquois at the beginning of the war.

All the extra units are naval. Its a re-spawn of the Iroquois civ so the surviving naval units from the original civ moved there.

There is no story behind it. Since the Iroquois is in Democracy, that means they have to pay 1 gold to support each unit. How come a city of size 1 (their entire empire has only 1 city and it is size 1) can be able to support that many units?

Since you built it and gave it to them its not a re-spawn but the same principle applies. Maybe you're asking this from a philosophical perspective " How can such a small pathetic city support so many modern units?".

The answer, its a game

and maybe leftover cash

No, there is no re-spawn. If you look at the city name, you may have notice that it named "Lost Civ" which was built by me. AIs would never name their capitol 'Lost Civ'. Anyway, savegame is available, does anyone care to take a look?

I'd be tempted to say that they have a goldmine, but I think the bonus is still not enough to pay all the units.

There is no leftover cash, when they signed the peace treaty, they handed me all of their cash. If I investigate that city now, I see they have zero cash. As I said before, they continue to support that many units 100 years later.

Got spare money?

When you gave them the city, were there any units in it? If yes, probably they don't have to pay maintenance for them.

Edited:
Oops, I've just remembered: when you get a city, there is only one unit in it. So, this post is simply useless. Forget it.

No, there was no unit it. Even if there are units in it, they all would be destroyed since we can't give away unit (other than worker).

Building units is not a problem, they probably have a 1 or 2 shield production (can't try it, sorry, I don't have the game here).

The question is: what are the consequences if you don't have enough money to pay maintenance and you have 0 gold left? I presume the units should be disbanded. But it has never happened to me (in civ3) so I don't know

Here is the snapshot inside their city, as you see, they just build another rifleman and an archer within 6 more turn.

Oh btw, those workers are mine. Since all my troops are oversea at the moment, I'm surrounding their city with my workers (just in case, they decide to build a settler and start wandering out to build more city).

PS: You may wondering why I let them live with just 1 city. Well, as you see, I already destroyed all other civs; by letting one of them live, I'm able to play until 2050 AD. It is just like SimCity from this point foreward; I don't have to worry about fighting war no more.

Here is another screen shot 100 years later from my first post in this thread. As you see, they are able to support more and more units. They now have a worker and another rifleman to support which would bring the total number of units to 20. My question is: Does the AI pay 'unit support' cost like we do?

Well they've got 11 gold/turn. So it could support that many units. What level is this played on? Could the AI advantages at higher levels be a factor?
