Why Are Americans so Anti-Utah? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

(inspired by a different thread. But because this is a different subject and that thread is probably going to spin off in thousands of directions right about....now, I'd like this question answered.)

Not being form the United STates, I sometimes wonder what everyone has against Utah. Despite being Mormon Fanatics (which does bug me a little, being....not mormon) it's a.....sort of good place to be. Low (in most places) crime, great place to raise children if you can steer them away from Utah Mormon Propaganda....

But sometimes when I go up to someone else in a different state, their concerned and even scared that I come from Utah and that I might be a mormon.

So whats this anti-mormon anti-utah thing all about? Help the Russian.

I have no problem with Utah at all, in any way shape or form.

As for mormons, I think it's the polygamy (sp?) thing that many people oppose. I really couldn't care less.

Stuff like that, I'd imagine.

I don't think anybody's anti-Utah -- Utah's the prettiest country I've ever seen, and the skiing is great.

OTOH, a lot of people are anti-Utavian. Gotta have something to do with Mormons, but personally my peeve is their drivers -- the worst I've ever seen *including Romans*. People so damn sure they're going to heaven they drive like they can't wait to get there.

I'm glad the Mormons have found a religion they like but do they really have to try to force it upon everyone else with the same demonic zeal as the Muslim Fantics?

On a funnier note can you folks believe a group of Mormons actually tried to get any drinks which contained Caffine to be outlawed in Utah? Apparently, Mormons believe caffine is "unpure" and good god fearing people should never consume anything which contains caffine. They there for decided there should be a law proventing anyone, including nonmormons, from buying things like coffee or Coke. Luckily this law didn't get passed by the, Mormon dominated, Utah state congress.

Doom books? As in, based on Doom the video game?

A group of Mormon "elders" (who looked to be in their early twenties) knocked on my door the other day and wanted to share the good news with me (or whatever term they used for it), but they hardly struck me as fanatics. My reply to them was "I'd feel guilty about wasting your time if you tried to share the good news with me because I'm a stubborn bastard and your preaching is going to fall on deaf ears" (or something equivalent to that, except maybe a bit more tactful), and they took my statement as the polite brush-off that it was and went away (rather than try to jam a foot in the door, as I'd expect a zealot or fanatic to do).

I got with a Mormon girl.

Aside from that, I think Utah is disliked because it is like a freak island in the middle of the states; an isolationist, puritan, polygamist hideout. They disallow booze, but **** their twenty wives. A land of controversy. Like England during the middle ages. BUT, they do have some of the nicest mountain biking in the world.

My problem with Utah is the racist, ultra-evangelical religion which calls it home. The Mormon faith teaches that Black people are black because they are the decendents of Ham or Shem or whomever it was that saw Noah naked and got cursed for it. Being turned black was the curse. Dennis Rodman was right.

The've got all the self-righteousness of "proper" Yankees*, and none of the toughness or ingenuity. They live in the middle of a facking desert. They have no real industry to speak of. Their state's boundaries are all straight lines. Not all people from Utah are like that, but the majority that I saw were. I have friends there, but I'm never going back. Texas, on the other hand, is none of those things. Other than self-righteous, but we back it up with our strong military presence!

I don't dislike Utah, I just laugh at it because of its ultra-conservative history.

As for Mormons, there is a pretty fair concentration of them where I live. I don't think that most of them are too devout, as I don't get many conversion attempts. Those who have tried have reached an understanding that if they don't push me, I won't heckle them.

By the way, does anyone find it ironic that a significant number of Las Vegas backers were and are Mormon?

Yes you can buy hooch there. There are no bars though, they're CLUBS
You have to buy a membership to drink in them. When we were there we had to buy guest memberships so we could drink for those couple of days. The clubs are great because there aren't really many morons in them.

Some GREAT golf courses up in the hills.

And in general, I agree with those that have previously said, most of the mormons I know are nice. But their need to try to convert you is a bit annoying.

Money, get away.

Money, it's a gas.
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash.
New car, caviar, four star daydream,
Think I'll buy me a football team.

Money, get back.
I'm all right Jack keep your hands off of my stack.
Money, it's a hit.
Don't give me that do goody good bullshit.
