Then who exactly do the motive and evidence point to? That's the problem with conspiratorial thinking- it's easy to poke holes in the government's case, but much more difficult to present the case for an even more unlikely party.

Besides, US intelligence (or lack thereof) had been very interested in many of the 9/11 terrorists prior to the dirty deed. So, were they the 'patsies', like lee harvey oswald?

I like to keep my mind open to every solution but in this we have to think about what Gatekeeper said. Now, there are several people who warned the US about this plan.... so which are you going to stick with (who believe dubya or someone else was behind it)?
If it was from the inside, then surely there wouldn't of have been any warnings outside the US, especially from Taliban or people who knows OBL? Right?

Or are you going to stick with the conspiracy that dubya let it happen, as in partners with OBL? Then why did these outside warnings even come, didn't these people know they were buddies? You can't have both, now choose! .

At the same time as these messages come (I warned the FBI etc.), it makes some people angry that the attacked succeeded etc.. But at the same time it ruins the conspiracy theories.

One thing makes me wonder about conspiracy theories connected to 9/11. They assume that Bush and his posse are willing to gamble away their presidency and a chance of power away for a pipeline. Indeed, they are willing to take being thrown out of office and most likely spending rest of their lives in a federal prison before being executed if it all goes wrong... with the grand prize of a pipeline. In other words, not only Bush but all his cronies are slovering man-monkeys.

I think it's funny how all the conspiracy theory kooks come from the same exact mind-set - whether it's Elvis is alice, Jim Morrison is alive, alien abductions, or 9/11.

Let's see if I get the jist of it: The evil Amercian President and CIA, lackeys of big oil, created a fake Islamic terrorist group, and decided to make some airliners disappear (or were they ever really there), using borrowed alien technology to make them invisible. The passengers on the airliners are now having their teeth examined by four foot tall gray creatures who weren't able to get it up for so long that they need our DNA to reproduce, but they can move through solid objects without being detectable. They did this, and secrectly snuck 120,000 lbs of av-gas into the two WTC buildings (those office workers never check what's in their desk drawers) so we could wipe out the financial center and many of the trading firms that big oil relies on, to have an excuse to invade one country who's government we didn't recognize, in order to put in a part of a pipeline that would pass through what, four or five countries, to take oil from a different country we weren't invading to a port facility in another country we weren't invading? And blowing up buildings in New York was supposed to help this process along how, exactly?

Even if you assume Bush and the CIA and whoever else are lackeys of the oil companies who want to build this pipeline, and everything was all hunky-dory except for that pesky Mullah Omar fella who wouldn't sign, so what?

Only three countries ever recognized the legitimacy of the Taleban "government" anyway - there's no legal basis for signing a treaty with a "nation" you don't recognize. You'd sign with the Rabbani folks in New York who you *do* recognize.

Nobody needed new attacks to make a case for dealing with the Taleban. All that would have been necessary (with a little Clinton-bashing about doing nothing more than firing a cruise missile or two) would have been to do a PR-blitz on bin Laden, the Cole, the African embassy bombings, the Khobar towers, etc. Throw in a little hand-wringing over human rights abuses to shut the liberals up, and voilá, instant war.

The conspiracy theorists don't address why the claimed need for an attack on WTC, like most inconveniences, they assume it away. (Well, they just *had* to blow it up, isn't it soooo obvious? What, are you *brainwashed*? ) They also don't address why oil company lackeys would **** with financial markets on which the oil companies are directly and indirectly dependent - if you're gonna blow something up, blow up another building, or a NASCAR event or something, not fly in from different angles so you can hopefully drop one building over on several more (NYMEX is right near the WTC, and if anyone knows *****ANYTHING***** about the oil bidness, you know how important NYMEX is to the oil industry.

The only thing conspiracy theorists have for a motive is... nothing. Just a phantom assembled from their own limited story-telling ability to rope in the gullible and technically ignorant. Their audience must have a convenient on-off switch for their cynicism - always apply extreme cynicism to any "official" description of events, yet get on your knees and open wide with total uncritical acceptance for any conspiracy theory description. If equal standards of cynicism are applied, the conspiracy theories will be seen for what they are - nothing more than internally inconsistent fantasy.

I'm sorry, if you want motive, read al Qutb and Maududi. Most other virulently anti-western Islamic fundamentalists have ripped off their teachings, so go to the source. As for evidence, I assume that the Blair government and prior governments in the UK have personally provided you with source material to prove the existence of the IRA and crimes committed by them? In fact, I assume from your demand for evidence that you personally are a recipient of original evidence for all criminal acts your government prosecutes, as they simply *need* your personal approval?

MtG - I just believe that other groups had motives as well and was in a better position to pull it off (I'm not saying it wasn't who it is widely believed to be, I'm just saying it's not the only possibility).

And I agree that the UK government probably hasn't been exactly honest regarding the IRA.

I'm not saying they need my approval, but I saying that I personally don't think they've told us the whole truth. Is it possible they knew about the attacks but delibereatly let it happen or ignored warnings because the aftermath would be beneficial to any previously less than popular leaders?

The again a lot of the claims for a cospiracy in the assasination of President Kennedy are false. For one is ALWAYS claimed the autopsy photos are a secrect and that no one has seen them.

I have seen them. On the net. If anyone really wants to see the inside of Jack Kennedy's skull I can supply a URL. The photos were released a long time ago but the conspricy theorists are never bothered by facts.

The USSR was kept pretty well informed, though.

Nobody of the average-person-persuasion understood jack about the engineering, physics or concepts behind the Manhattan project. However, thousands of people all over the US knew there was some huge government project in the middle of nowhere in New Mexico.
