There are no additional rules on playing PBEM games currently besides the ones on the first post of this topic.
However I will introduce the Keygen's PBEM Series rules in some games to come. I am working on the version 2 currently with some more rules.

There are some custom scenarios for faster (accelerated) start.
1. Dutcheese Scenario Pack which can be found on the Download section of the Apolyton under the Scenario category.
2. Slamp's Quick Start at slaamp.virtualave.net/ctp/
3. Keygen's PBEM Mod which will be released soon and will be based on several existing mods.

I am playing in a PBEM game which uses the world map. If you haven't ever played multiplayer in the world map then I strongly recommend it. It's very good! If you decide to use it then it would be better to split the world between the players and each one choose a nation relative to the area. E.g. Steve should get a position to the middle east, Napoleon to the Europe, etc.

Ok Krash is back in less than one weeks time.
I have been subbing for him in 4-5 games, I am already
having withdrawls.

I have to get in at least 3 more games going to satisfy my addiction, any ideas?

This is serious either I play more or it is off to the ctp addicts counciling centre.

I heard that they do a good job of brainwashing you there. I hear that in fact when they are done with you you actually end up using your computer for useful things. This is not good, can you imagine that? It scares the hell out of me. I also heard the patch can cause rashes, I have heard the pill has serious side affects, such as an addiction to defraging your hard drive. Just the thought of that gives me the willies.

I am hoping this message gets out to those who care enough about their fellow gamers and would not want this to happen to any PBEM'er.

Yes, you must have patch 1.2 othewise you won't be able to play PBEM games at all!
It is recommended to install the hack 1.21 too.
You can find it here in Apolyton in the Download/Patches section.

Just that they act different that the AI?!
OK, I don't know other player's abilities so they might be easier from AI or much harder. Just be careful while you make diplomacy with the others. Exchanges of any kind might proven much easier than with the AI. But be careful with any border issues with your human neighbors. Humans always get upset with any border violation or by stacking units near their lands. And humans always get greedy on unoccupied lands so harry up!

I'd like to join a PBEM game. Not played PBEM before or multiplayer LAN either. Of CTP or any other sort of game!

I've got v1.2 and the Apolyton pack. I've created a PBEM game to see how it works by using some of my own email addresses (I have around 7 different!) and I've got a few questions before I commit. Maybe you could add the answers to the top of the thread?

1) Does the double click on the sent .csg file work? It doesn't on my PC, even though I've associated CivCTP.exe with the .CSG fle, and checked the registry to see there's an entry. Sure the game starts up, but I just get the main title screen rather than the game running with the map loaded. If I move the sent .csg game to a saved game folder it loads OK and behaves as a PBEM file. [Look I don't want to commit to playing if my installation is corrupt and it will crash the game for others. I am a Win98 user.].

2) What's to stop me and all the other players cheating? After I've had my turn, can't I load the game that's saved on my desktop and see the next player's "civilization"? There doesn't appear to be any password protection.

3) Are there any mods I need installed to support some of the maps I've read about for PBEM quickstart, such as "Super Settlers"?
