As far as I know, you should check the settings for open your 'csg' files. It should read something like:
C:\PROGRAM FILES\CIVILIZATION-CALL TO POWER\CTP_PROGRAM\CTP\CIVCTP.EXE -l"%1"

I believe that last bit makes the difference. It did for me.

2) Yes there isn't anyway to prevent cheating. It's an honour system.

3)Keygen will be able to answer that better.

I'd like to take part in a PBEM game. I've downloaded and installed the 1.20patch so far.

BTW, What is the 1.21hack supposed to "fix" ?

Welcome guys! After you join your first PBEM game you will find out that it's worth it a lot!

1) Yes, indeed, this is the one way to do it. The most reliable way. If it won't work then you've got a problem! Plus that you will have a nice icon for every .csg file .
The other way is to play a game and save it. Though in some cases might not work. Was your case one of them? I guess yes .

2) I absolutely agree. Here we play for fun so it will be very rarely to find someone to cheat. I haven't but doesn't mean there isn't .

3) You have already found the answer. I have created a mod too which doesn't need Apolyton Pack installed. They use it on Youngbloods Gathering. It has some kind of super settlers.

Patch 1.2 is fine.
The hack 1.21 add some minor changes mainly on scenario issues. It has a documentation where you can find what it changes on the game. It is an unofficial patch. Most of the players have it installed. It doesn't affect PBEM games as far as I know so either you have it or not you will be able to join a PBEM game.

The rules need some changes and to be updated.

NukeBoy - try mail Krash, we need another replacement in the Midway game. The russians are not doing that bad at all. I dont think we know ½ the land yet, so there should be pleanty of room to make oversea settlements for all - once we have learned to sail.

I just CTP with patch 1.2. No mod yet, but It doesn't bother me to install one if necessary.

If somebody drops out from a game, how do you make the AI take over? I've been playing/testing PBEM to make sure it works (which it does), but cannot figure out how to let the AI take over.
