Another night done, Makeo seems to have a considerable tech lead on all of us.

I have had contact with all but Britain, but even though most are having fun, I was a bit bored with the game.

Tired of ads?

Anyone had experience with simul turns? More than anything, for me, its the wait between turns thats boring me to death right now.......

Its not my intention to sabotage the game, but at the rate we're going, I don't know if I can bear to continue week after week at this pace...

Worlds just too damn big !

You can actually by saving as a scn and starting it with host options set to simul.

No they suck because of the time factor - the bigger the map, the slower the game.

it is pretty slow. i have never played simultaneous turns before but i'm happy to try it.

apart from that i am enjoying the game so far so would prefer it to continue. maybe we can start a war to keep everyone interested.

makeo r u going to post the powergraph again?

Your winning, that is true, but such a comment is uncalled for, I didn't say I was quitting, just bored.
We have entered the the era of 12 1/2 minutes waiting for your turn, and it will only grow worse as the game progresses.
A war would only further slow an already slow game.

Threats of starting a war when you know you are technically superior seem somewhat hollow.

You think any of us would be more "interested" if you attacked one of us with a larger and more sophisticated army?

After putting 12 hours into this already, I find that sugestion strangly unappealing.

Diety's idea is a good one, simultanious moves would cut the turn delays considerably.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Really, say what ya want, its not about where my civ is that makes it boring or not. If chris or I were so far behind that it wasnt worth playing, perhaps the statement might have some validity. But neither of us are behind the curve so much that we cant get back into it.

My empire is still growing, my tech rate is decent, trade is starting to take off...theres plenty of good things going on, as far as game stuff goes...its just the wait between turns thats killing me. It really is tough to swallow 10 minutes of waiting and a minute and a half of moving. Granted, I am not the most patient guy, but quite clearly not that impatient either.

A war is not a guaranteed way of adding interest to the game. It could make it less interesting.

With lighthouse and magellans, no doubt Makeos empire is more equipped to start a war than any others, but it would still take dozens of turns just for a few boatloads of units to arrive for a fight from Aztec land.

I think we should try the simul and see what happens.

Tired of ads?

So with this simul, is it that you define a period of time per turn (say 2.5 mins) and everyone must move all their pieces simultaneously within that time limit? So it would speed the game up by a factor of 6 (maybe a bit less after allowing for slower communication speeds).

That sounds like it is worth trying, rather than abandoning the game because some people are getting bored (with or without a war).

Are there any major changes resulting from simultanoeus play (ie changes in combat, piece movement)?

If someone tells me how to set up the Simul turns and setting up the save as a snc., I have no problem playing that way.

And if anyone wants to attack me we will switch back to reg turns, you’ll just have to lose the element of surprise.

SRH, simul is fine and plays exactly the same as normal EXCEPT during war. It still plays the same but the one with least lag has huge advantage.

The best thing to do is to make a simul scn as I said earlier. Host starts by opening up that MP scn with his settings on simul.
Then if someone declares war you just honour TURN ORDER as though it was turn based. You don'tr need to quit and start again you just hold your units from moving UNTIL it's your turn in the normal spot that your civ moves.

Also, with simul you don't really need a timer, you just automatically move into your BUILD cycle when EVERYONE has moved their last unit.

One thing you'll notice is that if you restart and when yu first move into the SIMUL SCN your shield progress in each city will have been TWO turns worth.

Yes, as long as people dont attack out of order, being the honorable group we are, I don't think there should be very many big issues.

So Old man, we change the rules.txt, or game.txt to set it to simul?

Deity sure has enough opinions for not even being in the game.

add the following line to your civ.ini file and then make it read only.

Simultaneous= 1

When there is war you go turn based and once the guy your at war with is done moving he posts in the king chat done... and then you can move.

Thanks Markusf, its all set up everyone make sure you create a scenario folder called Romans so that we can start it up as a scn.

sry guys, can you help me out please.
i looked through the civ directory and i can't find a civ.ini file. my shortcut just points straight at civ2.exe

i originally had TOT withthe most recent patch, and them patched that to MGE using the patch from civ fanatics. it seems to have worked so far through this game, except when i tried to reload as host on the 2nd week and prom had to take over hosting.

also to set up a scenario folder do i just create a folder called romans. and does the path matter?

tks for your help

simon

Srholmes here is what you do, go to the find option (should be in the start button on most window systems) type civ.ini should show up in your windows dir. Double click on that and add Simultaneous= 1 to it and then go to file press save then go back to the find files program and right click on the civ.ini and switch it to read only. Don’t worry about the path I switched the scenario to my main folder so we don’t have any path problems.

Frank, hope your Internet returns to normal.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

So everyone has to change the ini file? Its not just the host?

So, for the scenario, we need to setup a "romans" folder? What files, if any, need to be in it?

Hope this goes well...I'm excited at the thought of playing a game with less down time....hope it works ok.

Drake, I would assume only the host needs to change their ini file however I am not sure so if someone more knowledge able wants to answer please do.

Don’t worry about creating the file; I decided it would just be easier if I moved the scenario to my civ two dir. Instead of a scn. folder. So everyone should be combatable path wise.
