	Has anyone been to a forum better than this one? Increase the size of your Attachments

This is the coolest forum ever. It's huge, so there are so many topics that for almost everything you can think of there's someone that knows a lot about it. Everything from sports to politics there are plenty of experts out there. And there are so many people here that are so intelligent. I can't really hold an intelligent conversation with 99% of the kids at my high school, and the ones I can talk with are not nearly as smart as the people here.

This forum is really, really good, but it's still 2nd in my books.

Beyond3D is far more educational and interesting to me, and has a much better signal/noise ratio...which is why I lurk there mostly.

The EU OT forum is pretty good also (from what I've seen). But I can't be arsed to post in two forums. Poly takes up too much time already...

The next best one is the Something Awful forums. You've got to pay $10 to get in, but it's worth it. Though I still like apolyton the best.

I dunno, the only forums I ever post on are gaming forums, and most of them have boring off-topic sections (so I never stick around once I lose interest in the game that brought me to the forum in the first place). I once posted at a non-gaming forum (an Atheists/Agnostics forum) for about two days, but all of the non-lurkers were *******s. Separating the gamers from the non-gamers seems to help separate the grain from the chaff--gamers usually don't seem to take themselves so goddamn seriously all of the time.

nope, haven't seen one yet. The forum section to this site is easy to locate and the little 'bonuses' you get are cool.

I looked at the one on About.com a few times. That site is subject to hit and run raids by Fundamentalists and trolls of all types which might be why they are kind of touchy. There were even two BIG threads dedicated to one Christian I know from the MaximumPC forums who had decided he was more comfortable with Atheists/Agnostics than he was on Christian forums. A guy called Tessword who was mostly polite enough that the moderaters didn't ban him. Funny how unbelievers were more patient with him than believers were.

It depends on what you meant by "better."

The Straight Dope Message Board also has a lot of intelligent posters, but it seems to be less fun. However, they did ban AH, so that has to count for something.

I've seen other forums that I thought had potential, but their problem is always getting people to post consistently.

Yes. I lurk there a lot, even more than on Poly in the last couple weeks.
On the discussions level, SDMB is better that Apolyton by far, but you can get bored easily.

Salon, CNN, to name just two. There are many more, you need to look around. I like this one, because I am finally starting to figure out who's who. Although I don't like how the moderators inject themselves into every conversation. EDIT: Certain posters seem to think their word is gold, no matter what their opinion is.
