Yes, we all know Western countries have never been irrational about things like showing a husband and wife sleeping in the same bed.

Iranians have their own way of doing things...
quote:
Iran hanging stalled by heart attack---Hangings often attract large crowds in Iran
A convicted Iranian murderer has been spared from a public hanging after he suffered a heart attack when the noose was placed around his neck, newspapers reported.
However, it is only a temporary reprieve.
The Iranian daily, Qods, said that after Mohammad Hadi, 55, has recovered in hospital, the hanging would be carried out as planned under Islamic law.
Hadi had been sentenced to death in the central city of Khomeini Shahr, near Isfahan, for battering to death a man who had come to his home to buy drugs.
The newspaper reported that Hadi had hidden the body in his basement, but had to move it when his wife started having nightmares.
Hadi then moved the corpse to the desert, but police found it and tracked down the killer.
But the execution did not go as planned.
Sharia law
"When the Koran was recited ahead of him being hanged, he suffered a heart attack," the report said.
It added: "When he has recovered, he can be hanged."
Under Iran's Islamic Sharia law, murderers are executed unless they are pardoned by their victims' next of kin.
The death penalty is imposed for murder, rape, armed robbery, blasphemy and serious drug offences.
Last month, 5 convicted rapists were publicly hanged from cranes at 2 sites in the capital Tehran, watched by thousands of people.

maybe so, but you can't base it on your ethnocentrism... your quick judgement sickens me |
What the hell does that mean?
All judgements are based on personal beliefs. Even the belief that you have no beliefs is a belief. Thus, you cannot be ethnocentric.
Oh, and I'd agree. Modern islam is crazy. The Sufis need to take charge.

Here here Keppler!
People like Fealin, Gangerolf and Lefty are possibly the best friends of Islamic Fundamentalists:
I.F: "look borthers, these westerner demean your faith, you honor, your traditions, they dare insult the prophet! Thats why we are at war! We must drive them out of our lands and make them drown in their own blood!"
Thanks to all the anti-islamic ranters in Poly for worldwide islamic terrorism It just would not be as powerful without your hate and rancor to feed the flames! Good job to you all! You all win the Reverend Falwell price, but be sure not to kiss anyone except your wife at the 'Moral majority, Christian Rigth awards", for that is adultery and leads to sin, which means you woul be going to hell!
Its a stupid issue, a clear example of what happens when prudish clergymen get their hands on political power.

Islamic fundamentalism has nothing to do with "demeaning" the faith and insulting the prophet. That might earn you a fatwa or ten to be killed, a la Salman Rushdie.
In the view of al Qutb, the real guiding force behind modern fundamentalist movements, the entire nature of western civilization (including touchy-feely do-your-own-thing liberalism) is an insult to Allah and Islam.
You think tolerance of gays is cool, and nice, and liberal and progressive? And that as long as you say nice things about Islam, their extremists will consider you any different? Sorry, GePap, you're just as much an enemy as Falwell, because you promote immorality and acts which are abominations and insults to Allah.
The only issue is they have so many targets, and so little time, that you may escape notice for a while by being quiet.
As an infidel, in there world view there are only two proper solutions: conversion (if you get there first), or death.

We are not going to appease hateful people no matter what we do. Do people ever listen to the sermons that are broadcst on TV in some Islamic countries? They hate us because we are not Muslims, it has nothing to do with our political preferences, religion or the lack of it. Liberals would be the first people to be hanged.

hmmm. ok, so your saying we should just stick to our own beliefs as standards for all?
Great! let everybody judge what is deemed wrong and crazy for themselves based on their personal preference. And let them kill each other for it. That should work real well.
Yes we all have our personal beliefs. And we often make judgements, but if education has taught you anything is to see things in many angles.

Kepler, Gepap, and chegitz guevara:
You have not understood christianity at all and/or you are distorting it.
It's absolute nonsense saying that a christian theocracy or government would impose sharia-like laws.

Bill Clinton is a christian. How bad was he? And yes being a christian means believing in certain fundaments (or dogmas). Thus every christian is a fundamentalist in some respect.
And look at the socalled Christian Western world? You find it worse than the Arab or muslim world?
I'd like some common down to earth sense instead of these paranoid christian conspiracy theories.
If the USA is run by fundamentalist milleniarists as was claimed in another thread, where are the "lashing"-laws? Oh.... You're talking about tonguelashing? I c...
There is absolutely nothing that indicates that fundamentalist christians, even theonomists, would impose sharia-like laws. NOTHING.
