You have done a very bad selection of poll options. You should have split into generations with increasing size.

Should have made it multiple choice.

I've got a 1Ghz at home, and am hoping to upgrade it once I get a decent job.

When you first turn it on, your BIOS should toss something on the screen that gives you all the basics.

I have a PIII 450 that has served me well for...oh, three years, now?

Right-click "My Computer" and click on "Properties", you should see it then.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Is it a Radeon 8500?

Edit: Ah, 9700. Not bad.

I don't buy ATI cards. I had a Radeon 64MB VIVO and I learned my lesson.

For future reference, the 9700 actually has smaller pipes.

It's got 1 texture unit per pipe, 8 pipes. GF4 Tis have 2 texture units per pipe, 4 pipes.

Suffering from ads?

It is better, but it doesn't have bigger pipes. They made some tradeoffs.
GF4 Ti4600 has 4x2 pipes (4 pipes, 2 texture units).
Radeon 9700 has 8x1 pipes.
Nvidia's upcoming chip (end of Novembver) has 8x2 pipes.

When I got my Ti4600 the 9700 wasn't even out yet, but I still wouldn't buy one. It's a half-assed DX9 chip, and it'll be obsolete the day DX9 is out when Nvidia launches NV30.

Run 3DMark2001SE (or get your bro to run it). www.madonion.com to download it
