Ozzy, I am not a math head so I just tried to think it through.

Momma monkey is 18 years old.
Monkey is 12 years old. This equals 30.
Monkey and weight are 18oz. (mother is 18 years)
Rope is 12' (age of monkey)

the weight of the weight and the weight of the rope=18oz. + (12ft x1/3lb)=18oz +4Lbs=18oz +64oz.=82 oz.

1\4 of that is 20.5oz
One half the weight of the monkey, plus the weight of the banana= 20.5oz
1/2 of 18 oz =9 oz

9oz +x=20.5oz
x=11.5oz

Banana = 2 oz per inch
11.5 divided by 2 = 5.75 inches

To prove this I went into kitchen, got a banana, and since I was sure the monkey was hungry, I took a couple of bites off. The remainder was 5.75 "

His "father" was not his biological father, but a step father. He was born earlier on the calender (say jan and step father was born in july). His mother died giving him birth. His step father had a daughter from a previous marriage and was therefore a step sister so when he married her it was normal.

Three cross-country travelers are getting weary, and decide to drive into a local Super-8 motel to rest. They read the sign out front that says, "Econo-rooms: $30 per night". They walk up to the front counter and ask for an econo-room, and give the manager $10 each. The manager calls over the bell-hop who escorts them to their room.

Afterwards, the bell-hop returns to the front counter and the manager states, "Oh dear! I forgot we are running a special today for those rooms. They are only $25 tonight. Return the $5 to our guests."

So the bell-hop takes the money and gets to the traveler's room, but decides to keep $2 of their money because they did not bother to tip him. He gives each traveler $1 back.

So each traveler only paid $9 for his share of the price. $9x3=$27 plus the $2 the bell-hop kept equals $29.

Where'd the other dollar go?

[Sorry for the lame teaser- its the only one I know. And no: Super-8s DON'T have bell-hops!]

The other dollar didn't go anywhere.

$25 remained with the owner.
$5 went back to the room, and was dispersed thusly:
$1 to Traveler 1
$1 to Traveler 2
$1 to Traveler 3
$2 to bellhop

25+1+1+1+2=30.

another way to look at it... Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

The net price paid by each traveler was $9, after the bellhop returned $1 to each of them. So the room cost the them a total of $27. $25 went to the manager to pay for the room, and $2 went to the bellhop.

3 x $9 = $25 + 2$

heres one for the kids.

Along the trail you come to a fork in the road. A man is standing there. The road forks to two different cities. One fork is to the city of liars, and one is to the city of truth tellers.

The people from the city of the truth tellers tell the truth, the whole truth and nothng but the truth.

The people from the city of the liars tell lies, and only lies, even half truths are not good enough, for everything they say is not to be trusted.

The man is from one of the cities, but you don't know which. You want to get to the city of the truth tellers.
What do you ask the man at the crossroads?

too easy... Tired of ads?

Point to one of the forks in the road and ask, "is that the way to your city?"

If it's the road to the truth-teller's city, both the liar and the truth-teller will answer "yes". If it's the road to the liar's city, both will answer "no". So regardless of which one you're talking to, the answer will give you the information you want.

That gets you nowhere. If you ask the man, Is that the way to your city, (and you point to the liar city, even though you dont know this)and he says yes, how do you know whether he is a truth teller or liar.

Sorry, wrong question.

Well, the liar/honest one is an old classic. You ask him "If I asked a member of the city you don't live in if that was the road to the city of truth tellers, what would he say?" and then do the opposite.

A pumpkin, an eggplant, and a tomato are on a truck, what will fall on a sharp curve?

Neither the truthful, nor the liar can answer yes in that situation, it would be against the rules. The truthful would be lying by saying he was from the liar city, he has to say no. The liar would be telling the truth if he said he was from the liar city, and so he has to say no.

AnnC had it right.

Isn't there usually a third party which can be either telling the truth or lying? In that case a more convoluted question like Wraith's is needed.

Someone once posted a poll with "banana" as one of the options. It caught on. So basically, it's an inside running gag.

Or at least I think that's the explanation I heard.

No one has the answer about which fruit will fall yet?
