Theres alot of radical differences in CtP2 to say its a sequel to a (fairly) succesfull game, they changed alot.
Actually people always moan about the CtP2 rushbuy bug in MP, but its easy to spot someone doing it if you save a few consecutive turns as host, ask for the saves as non-host, or use the nameloop program (slows the game down tho) Anyone can cheat with either ctp1 or 2 to the same degree.
I think space layer is a preference, not necessarily a good thing. Seeing as alot of Civ players never tried ctp1 or 2 because of the future stuff. Most people dont play ctp2 just out of preference for ctp1.
Oh yeah and CtP2 does have PBEM, just not human to human diplomacy. But frankly when im playing a human 1v1 in pbem, even when we do make a no treaty it doesnt mean we wont break it. Not to mention never swapping maps or techs.

I used to play ctp a lot more than ctp2, then disaster my ctp disc broke. I e-mailed blackice to ask for a no cd crack but he never replied and so ctp is now off my computer and until I see it somewhere available cheap it will stay off.
CTP2 modded is now pretty good, but man I really used to enjoy the multiplayer scene for ctp and I found that wes's med pack for ctp was excellent and gave me a difficult game. Wes's med mod for ctp2 aint no where near as good as it was for ctp.
Yeah I really miss mtp with ctp, never mtped with ctp2 'cos never found enough of a community.

I much prefer the trade system in ctp1 too, even though it was overpowerful to the game as a whole (but then so is commerce in CtP2) but cant you mod both games?
From my limited experience with slic from ctp1 it seemed a little more easy to understand and alter but obviously theres alot more possibilities with slic2.

I have found a shop here in Thailand that has boxes of the original game (ctp) for around 5pounds, but with the box and manual all written in Thai. I will buy a couple of boxes.
I was just wondering whether these could become collectors items in the future, especially if they are unopened. A bit like matchbox cars. Is there any case of games in original condition becoming collectors items?
THanks everyone for trying to help, unfortunately I have taken everything off my hd already, this was 'cos I was having cpu probs and lost nearly everything.
I still think that the interface for ctp is better than ctp2. I hate the ctp2 message system.
I am still offline at home 'cos my jungle redoubt has probs with the phone line, and has for a few months now. I will be pressing for a new line in the next two weeks.

Often the things that did not sell well originally become the most collectable. So there is still hope, especially with it being in Thai, certainly not many of those around.
