Why dont you guys play CtP2? Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

Ok CtP is a great game no doubts about it. But just a question.
How come all you people here dont play CtP2?
I mean CtP2 is a much better game than Ctp2 and the mods are amazing plus the fact that modding is continualy going on
However i know CtP does have features ctp2 doesnt have :

CtP
Hotseat
PBEM
Space (not to everyones liking, but i loved it and modded could be made perfect)
Throne room (once again not to everyones liking but i liked it)
GUI (Arguable but CtP had a different interface to CtP2 that some may say is better)

Ok other than these (are there any i missed) CtP2 has way more features(modded)
So are these the reasons you still play CtP or is there something im missing ? Not to say dont play CtP as it is a class game

I play CTP because I love it, have found it to be my favorite game of all time, do my own scenario making and well, after 4+ years, am worthless and weak, cannot find the strength to ...Just..Say..No...but rather..JUST...ONE....MORE..TURN.......

I play CtP2

But i still play CtPI too because of the way the trade system is much more important and the interface is slicker.

I could come up with a lot of reasons to play CTP1.

Of course some of them you already know.

1. It is the first CTP
2. It has stabil MP without the rush buy bug
3. It has space
4. The interface has some advances over the CTP2 interface but there are also some advances for the CTP2 interface
5. It is more finished, you don't see everywhere that there is something missing
6. Sea cities look like sea cities
7. It is well patched with two patches and the hack patch, even if I feel that there is nevertheless something missing
8. It has diplomacy pictures

Of course you can't mod CTP1 like CTP2 but it is also possible. So CTP1 is actual a nice alternative for CTP2 even if I play CTP2.

Because of PBEM (and MP for some of the other fanatics ).

The space layer.

And some dozens of other more-or-less other good reasons .

Put an end to popups!

Theres alot of radical differences in CtP2 to say its a sequel to a (fairly) succesfull game, they changed alot.

Actually people always moan about the CtP2 rushbuy bug in MP, but its easy to spot someone doing it if you save a few consecutive turns as host, ask for the saves as non-host, or use the nameloop program (slows the game down tho) Anyone can cheat with either ctp1 or 2 to the same degree.

I think space layer is a preference, not necessarily a good thing. Seeing as alot of Civ players never tried ctp1 or 2 because of the future stuff. Most people dont play ctp2 just out of preference for ctp1.

Oh yeah and CtP2 does have PBEM, just not human to human diplomacy. But frankly when im playing a human 1v1 in pbem, even when we do make a no treaty it doesnt mean we wont break it. Not to mention never swapping maps or techs.

Some things

- Future techs
- Longer Time period.
- better AI.
- better Trade system.
- and some other things i don't remember.

CTP2 is nearly as good (especially with the mods). Haven't played it enough with the mods i guess.

CTP2 has plenty of future techs... just no space layer, so you can't have space cities etc

The AI in modded CTP2 is 10 times better than the AI in CTP1 and unmodded CTP2.

The trade system, is imho pretty much the same, except that in CTP2 you need more caravans for certain trade routes of course, you also get more money from them.

All in all, they are pretty closely related games (of course ) but each has its positives an negatives, when compared.

I used to play ctp a lot more than ctp2, then disaster my ctp disc broke. I e-mailed blackice to ask for a no cd crack but he never replied and so ctp is now off my computer and until I see it somewhere available cheap it will stay off.

CTP2 modded is now pretty good, but man I really used to enjoy the multiplayer scene for ctp and I found that wes's med pack for ctp was excellent and gave me a difficult game. Wes's med mod for ctp2 aint no where near as good as it was for ctp.

Yeah I really miss mtp with ctp, never mtped with ctp2 'cos never found enough of a community.

CTP2 is much better and the modding ability make mods like the City Expansion, Visible wonders, a much better AI, Upgrading units, Elite units (like civ3 Unique Units but given randomly), Leader units, Religion code and lots of other stuff possible.

Other than the CTP2 mods I believe the lack of features like borders and the not so good terrain and UI graphics like CTP2. Are stuff to that make me stick to CTP2. But the trade system of CTP1 is something that trully interest me.

If CTP2 had the trade system of CTP1. CTP2 could be modded to be the best CTP2 game ever

I much prefer the trade system in ctp1 too, even though it was overpowerful to the game as a whole (but then so is commerce in CtP2) but cant you mod both games?

From my limited experience with slic from ctp1 it seemed a little more easy to understand and alter but obviously theres alot more possibilities with slic2.

I'd have to check the code to be sure but I think most of this will work in CtP1 as well. You just need enough manpower to convert it all...

Probably, the city expansion and the visible wonders mod wont work since i could not find anything like a CreateImprovement function
And the Elite units will only work if the mod functions exist in slic 1 which i believe it doenst.

But probably the upgrading units and leader wonders can be modded to CTP1.

Suffering from ads?

I have found a shop here in Thailand that has boxes of the original game (ctp) for around 5pounds, but with the box and manual all written in Thai. I will buy a couple of boxes.

I was just wondering whether these could become collectors items in the future, especially if they are unopened. A bit like matchbox cars. Is there any case of games in original condition becoming collectors items?

THanks everyone for trying to help, unfortunately I have taken everything off my hd already, this was 'cos I was having cpu probs and lost nearly everything.

I still think that the interface for ctp is better than ctp2. I hate the ctp2 message system.

I am still offline at home 'cos my jungle redoubt has probs with the phone line, and has for a few months now. I will be pressing for a new line in the next two weeks.

Damn, you found one in Thai? I browsed a few computer stores (I bet you know where ) while I was in Bangkok myself -- I figured it'd be a nice souvenir -- but no luck...

Often the things that did not sell well originally become the most collectable. So there is still hope, especially with it being in Thai, certainly not many of those around.
