Some of you may remember that I had the beta and showed you screenshots of units, etc. And also summed up a zillion bugs.
You guys came back at may telling me not to complain because its a beta and they'd be taken care of.
I said, HOPEFULLY, they'll have taken care of it by the end.

The Date of the exe on the Play the world Beta CD that I had was July 8th, 2002. The latest date on any one file is July 15th, 2002.
Ok, so the final retail version came out and so did a patch. People complain about bugs. Here's what I find strange. Usually when I get a beta, the new patches will not install on that version because it is designed for the new retail.
Funny, the patch installed flawlessly. Isn't that strange? What does that mean? That the cd I had was the Retail and not Beta? (I got ahold of it about a week before retail hit the stores). So all those bugs (diplomacy, etc. crashings once a turn on singleplayer, crashing when artillery/ships/etc. bombards, etc.) are included in the final retail?
Thoughts/Opinions/Flames?
P.S.: I guess my hopes of having as bug-free retail version as possible isn't going to happen. And those who said "blablabla ... wait for the final bug-free retail" were speaking out of their wrong end.

So you're saying that the patcher program does not even check the verion of Civilization 3: Play the World installed? Are you assuming? And if you are right, isn't that kinda sad?
Also yes the dates range, but I am looking at the important files only. (.ini, .bin, .cab, etc.). Files that would have to have been compiled for each release. Those range between 7/8-7/15
Plus I'm curious, how do you know that files dated "July" are ages old? More assumptions?

You are full of it.
The July dated files are ages (and many versions) old.
The patch worked? Fine. That means that a program to copy files over older copies worked. Big deal. |

Please do, check the date of data2.cab of the most recent beta that you have, and let's see the date on it. My guess is that its date is 7/15/2002 6:54 AM and you haven't received any betas since then.
My theory is that this last release is the final retail version.
However, you were right about the patch simply copying files instead of confirming what version of CIV3:PTW you have. I did a patch install to a random directory w/o no errors about having an unsupported CIV3:PTW installed. Just another thing to add to the pile of things Firaxis could have done a better job at.

But what is the date on the latest beta? Not that it would matter considering you could make one up.
But yes, I take it back, they may have modified the retail after the last beta version. Considering my reason for believing this was because the patch worked, but we know already that it doesnt.
Disregard this thread.
