2100 GMT is 1600 EST, at which time I will not be able to play on thursday. I will be able to play at like 21:15... I could even possibly be on ICQ at 21:00 but I will still be in class and thus be unable to start a game.

Copied directly from the firaxis website:
quote: This update resolves several issues between Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and Windows 2000 and XP machines.
This update is only needed for Alpha Centauri owners who have Windows 2000 or XP and are having problems getting the game to run OR if you play multiplayer games with other players who have installed this patch.
If you are not having problems running Alpha Centauri on your PC and you do not play multiplayer games with other players who have installed this patch, you should not install the patch

Note the *OR*
Anyways I tried joining the game but I was about 30 seconds too late... no one is responding on ICQ so that is it.

You are both right...it is balanced...but then again it is a little boring....what about seapower it gives no real meaning in that´world...and there is no guarantee that one will not have a shitty planetfall. I have experimented with maps too and there are a lot of great maps around....but then at the end..one of the great things is...that you don´t know in advance were to move your units and were to put your first bases...in which direction to grow so to say. That is the reason why exploring is such an important thing to do the first 50 turns of the game....that part of the game will almost disappear too when map is known in advance. If it is just to rule out the factor of randomness in the game we could use the PBEM-tournament map from Tau Cetis tournament Map.
I DO NOT SAY: NO....NEVER i just say I LIKE THE RANDOM MAPS in spite of the risk of a lousy planetfall.
Lets see more examples and continue the discussion...maybe a map with a litlle more water.
