hmm I don't want to rain on the parade, but this web-based version is really slow!

I like telnet better... I guess I'll have to explore a bit more and see what else this version has to offer.

The pages load at about the same speed as everything else on apolyton - not real fast, but about average. The issue is more with the reality of http being unable to match the speed of a persistent telnet connection, and with the fact that I can't use a helper

I don't find it slow loading at all.


The FAQ isn't very helpful, though... there's still alot of things that I'd like to know, like what exactly each ship component does, and how selling commodities from your planets is managed.

beyond that, the map page and the trade route feature is quite helpfull(you set a pair and can perform as many routes as you like with a single click)

once you're in orbit of your planet you can set it's "selling" / "not selling" mode

A brief description on all of the components and upgrade:

Upgrades
Hull
Increases your total amount of cargo holds
Engines
Decreases the number of turns it takes for a realspace move, 13-5 is usually enough to get everywhere in one turn
Power
Increases the amount of energy you can store
Computer
Increases the amount of fighters you can have
Sensors
Improves you accuracy when scanning planets and ships
Beam Weapons
Adds more beam weapons to your ship
Armour
More armour
Cloak
I assume it counters the sensors
Torpedo launchers
More torpedo's can be stored on your ship
Shields
More shields

Equipment
Genesis Torpedoes
Creates planets
Space Beacons
Never used 'm, i think they log everyone who enters a the sector
Emegency Warp Device
I believe it warps you out of the sector when under attack while you're offline
Warp Editors
Create warp links in a sector, current max warplinks per sector is 10 htoughm you can't go over that.
Mine Deflectors
Saves you from mines when you enter a mined sector
Escape Pod
Keeps you from dying?
Fuel Scoop
In combination with some power upgrades, this could be proiftable, whenever you realspace to somewhere, depending on the distance, you'll gain some energy, which can be sold at ports.
Last ship seen device
Never used it...

This is cool, but depending on when you are playing the response time is slow.

Sometimes I was timing out (at the same time that poly was giving me the too busy message). If this takes off it will be a bandwidth whore.

I also do not like the RS moves that give you a message and then one selection to go the sector page.

i guess that it doesnt have an auto-move to the sector page in order to see how many turns you spent on the move

i could always add an auto-refresh. it's php after all

Same thing happens when you make a planet.
You get a message, you made a planet and the selection to go to the main menu.
However, if you tried to put a sixth planet in the sector, you get and error message instead and the return to the menu. Whenever, I create a planet, I want to go to the planet menu.

Wow, why's this game suddenly get over 20 players when we were lucky to get 2 or 3 to play TradeWars? If I'd known there were people willing to play games again, I might've set up a server. I've got an extra computer and a router, now, so it could be perpetual without a problem...

Ugh, I can't believe I just killed myself attacking one of Shadyblue's planets . I guess there isn't much competition for first place anymore.


Ah well, atleast I got one of his planets before killing myself on his defenses.

Well. You should have protected your new planet more than that if you wanted to keep it.

The fun thing is that all these planets used to be Lemmy's, before I stumbled upon them. All 6 planets already had over 2M colonists too, so it was worth taking them.

If that's any consolation to you Osweld, the power difference tends to shrink a lot later on in the game, because of the diminishing return on ship upgrades. You haven't lost yet, but I should be able to keep first place for a while

Grrrr....

Osweld, this little stunt of yours in my sector cost me over 1.5 billion credits. Not to mention about 100 turns. If I *ever* find your ship, I'm gonna zap you out of the galaxy, Federation Bounty or not.
