Astrologix-- This problem of other civilizations not providing us envoys has bothered me also. In that case, there is really nothing we can do. We've simply lost out.

sorry thing is that, we will not know that they have communications with the builders unless they are willing to divulge the info. The diplomacy screens in MP will not allow you to see another humans tradeable goods...
now that I think about it, I don't if that is the way diplomacy is handled in PBEM at all. It may be handled through PM's instead and either way, we will be in the dark.

Wow! I am a couple of days out and find that. Really nice!

Great leader Togas, I think that the "tie story" that you have told to the builder is a very smart one. Hey it seems that diplomacy is starting to work!

The research pact is a really good thing. Let's say that the other teams don't have to know we have such pact with the Builders. They can suspect, but they won't know for sure. I'm sure that the Builder will agree to not tell them So we'll just try to gain contact with them as soon as posible and that's all.

About the civ pick. Being an authentic spaniard this is OK with me

This is seriously worrying.... I am neither a signed up member of this team (nor any others), nor have I been officially added to any team's member lists, yet here I am. Although this poll is closed I could spy for other teams, and as much as the idea of being a spy, a double, triple, x-tuple agent appeals to me, I feel I should let you guys know there is still a bug in the private forums function.

Wow...how did you get in here MrWIA?

You must vow to keep silence of what you have read,MWIA, for all time, until the very Bob is covered with fire on every square millimeter (er, roleplaying, excuse me, cubit) and every square cubit is covered with ice at the same time.

If you do not, we will find you. Count on it.

It's alright, mrmitchell - I want to definitely join the Roleplay team, as I have heard word that Spain is the Civ choice. however, I am not yet a member, and I have no mod powers any more, and yet again I am here. Hmm...

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

Members of the Roleplay team. We have officially come to an agreement with Legoland about Carthage. Here is the wording of the agreement:

quote:

We, the Roleplay team, hereby promise that we will give the Legoland team the civilization of Carthage and we will cooperate with research (each team researching different paths and then trading).

In exchange, Legoland promises to not declare war on or join in any war against the Roleplay Civilization at any time prior to 1000 AD, to give the Roleplay Civilization "Most Favored Nation" trade status (which shall include selling us techs at a lower price than any other civ), and cooperate with research as explained above.

Both teams also pledge to try to maintain good relations throughout the game and to attempt to cooperate for the mutual protection and success of our civilizations.

I also asked them to keep the agreement a secret between us. Hopefully they will live up to that part as well. Hopefully, so shall we.

Anyhow, Spain is official. We "gave" Carthage to the Builders after much discussion, etc, etc. We now need to get our team icon finalized and continue our Spanish strategy.

glad to hear it went over well. though I was skeptical to say the least, it seems that simply trying has netted us the ability to research at (hopefully) twice the rate as our enemies.

perhaps since this handshake alliance has been forged, we might want to know where Legoland sees itself concerning its research rate. I imagine it will be decent considering that most human vs human competition will probably limit the degree to which you can just buy techs, but it might be nice to coordinate that.

I LOVE the wording that agreement... we have an ally in out back pocket that the warmonger teams won't NECESSARILY know about for at least a little while.... assuming (for a moment) that Legoland ends up anywhere near to us (crossing fingers...), the tech-sharing agreement could be extremely powerful for both of us... I really like this.

This is good. We need to follow up this agreement.
That would serve us well... But we should not lick their backs.
Culturally and colonizationally, we should informally compete with everyone incl. them.

I think that is a great agreement, and a good deal for a civ we weren't 100% on anyway. Good job Togas!

However, I will point out that just because they're Legoland and not The Glory of War, doesn't mean they're any less likely to backstab us or make phony deals to misplace our trust.

Now that we finally have our civ choice, I'm off to write my Spanish character bio!

Nimitz is one of my deputies as FAM in the single-player DG... we've been PMing back and forth about FAM, but also (in two messages) about how great this agreement is for both Legoland and the Roleplay team... things are looking good with Legoland.

Now we need to cultivate more friends...

I'd like to stress this again, if any of you have friends on the other teams, keep those friendships alive and keep open the lines of conversation. It's OK to tell them a bit about what we're doing and give them a good impression about our fun-loving team. Make a positive impression and exchange information with them so that we can get a better idea of how the other teams are operating.

Those of you who are closely connected to someone from another team will be given the Ambassador job to that team. I'd like to have the other teams working with someone who is their friend, and I want to encourage an attitude of cooperation and trust from the beginning.

I've got a good relationship with UnOrthO (Glory of War). I don't know if it'll help -- I somehow suspect UnOrthO'll be very consistant in seperating his personal feelings from the way he plays the game -- but if I do happen to be talking to him about it, I'll keep your guidelines in mind .

In general, I think we've really hit upon something here. Let's be everyone's friend for now -- we can always stab 'em in the back later, or perhaps entirely avoid early-game conflict (should we so desire).

Finally, I think we've got the right strategy when it comes to pretending to be incompatent . There are several groups who we discuss the most when we formulate our strategies; let's do our best to not be one of the groups the other guys are talking about. Supprise and flexability are our greatest advantages, since we have no stated goal (unlike most of the other teams).

Just a few thoughts... I'm going to try to become more active over here, and I think we're in for lots of fun.

EDIT: Other people on other teams who I've worked with on a more personal level at some point in the C3DG. Gathering Storm: Meshelic, notyoueither. Glory of War: Aro. Lux Invicta: Apoc. (I've interacted with many of the other players as members of the C3DG, but I'm just skimming the list for anyone who I've worked closely with on some project in the past -- though again, I'm dobut it's worth any brownie points ).

For me, the people I've worked the closest with from other teams and with whom I exchange PMs with frequently (many times about non-business stuff for the single-player DG):

Spiffor (Legoland)
Nimitz (Legoland)
Aggie (Glory of War)
Aro (Glory of War)
Meshelic (Gathering Storm)

The rest are either not on any team here or are on ours

Have worked (and occasionally just chatted) well and often with Aggie, Spiffor, nye, Apoc, Trip, meshelic, Nimitz (who wants to be the Ambassador for his team to us, BTW)..... basically anyone in any Demo game beforehand.

Unless your cooperation is continuing away from this forum, say in the Civ3 SP Demo game, I doubt that experiences with these posters will make any difference, and I strongly suspect that we are effectively opposed to each other in every capacity within this forum. Well, obviously, I don't trust ANY of them...

But if you've had occassion to chat with someone enough, it MIGHT (just might) give you an idea of when they're trying to "play you".

Well, I personally feel inclined to help the builders, but just because they were so ignored and berated in the SP.

Otherwise, ive worked with quite the many of the other teams people, like Trip, and Uber, and so on and so on. But I have more of a thirst to smash them than anything. Because i worked closely with them, I feel more inclined to use my knowledge against them, rather than thinking "how can we ally with them".

But God Save the Builders, after he annoints us rulers of the world.

Full PM-box? Change here!

I'm not saying we can't trust teams (especially Legoland ATM), but that we can't really expect any information to reach us, directly or indirectly, from individual members.

Even from Mr. Soren if he shows himself and doesn't just lurk.
