yes, I agree. But splitting into black, yellow, white1, white2, white3.1, white3.2, and white3.222 is even more exact (and hence blurry and unfounded.)

"White" is a subjective term that has been abused by Europeans far too long to mean only Christian "Nordics". Hence Middle Easterners, who distance themselves from the West (understandably), would not use the word "white".

Try words like "Caucasoid", "Mongoloid", "Negroid", "Australoid".

I seem to recall reading somewhere that some people have a hard time finding bone marrow donors because people of their race only make up a small percentage of the U.S. population. Or maybe they were looking for donors of mixed race. Anyway, if someone of the same race is required for a transplant, that would seem to indicate that there is indeed some biological aspect to race. Or maybe my brain is playing tricks on me, and I've completely misremembered.

What I don't fully understand is why this topic is so offensive to so many people. Could someone enlighten me on that?
