I say we force convert all of the Muslim countries to Hindu. We haven't had much trouble from Hindus historically, and they have an accent that I find much more amusing than that Arab one.

There are fundamental differences between Christianity and Islam, despite what the PC crowd may say. Compare the teachings of Jesus Christ with those of Muhammed and then tell us which one supports peace and respect for the individual. Islam does promise peace, but only to other Muslims. The infidels are promised nothing but war.

But the Christians have had their Inquisitions, their Holy Wars, their Crusaders, and I could go on...

Its gotten better and nowadays is pretty uncommon...
Only to show that these problemes are way more social than actually religious...
Islamist would have done the same bad things as the Christians did give the same historico-socio-economic factors (woh that was a fun "word) and Christians would do the same thing if they live in Irak, had embargos , were being bombed by US airplanes periodically, lived under repressive regimes or were being informed via propaganda etc...
Religion is just an excuse to get ppl together and pumped up....

How many civilians have been killed by US action throughout the globe, or don`t the fuzzy wuzzies count.

I think that if the US and west wasn`t interfering in other countries and blatantly supporting certain states against others and against their own people (Iraq being a prime example, the sentiment of which is not likely to change) the US would not now be a target.

These people have not just appeared from nowhere, driven by nothing.

They were funded, trained and moulded by us and now our actions have up set them.

They are attacking our way of life. Of course indirectly that is related to us.

Essentually they want to bring us down to their level. They live in poverty and in fear of dying any day. They wish to inflict that upon the U.S. I can't blame them for this. They are jealous of our peace and security.

We could remove all support of Israel and remove all foreign troops and they would still attack us. Their excuse? Americanization. They would complain about american business influence on the rest of the world. They do not want to lose their culture to the american culture.

Its not your way of life its your interfering in others thats the problem.

Most of these individuals would not know or care about the US and what it did or did not have if they were not suffering as a result of US foreign policy.

A nice example is Iran and the revolution that happened over there as a result of US interference.

The sad truth is you are now reaping the rewards of your previous actions. Whats sad is that you can`t take responsibility for your part in creating the current climate and are seeking to hide in some childish fantasy that coordinated suicidal groups are formed because people are jealous. Now that is a stretch of the imagination even for the willingly stupid.

Well, maybe it's just me, but:

1) I don't care which religion I ignore

2) I'd rather have an extra-long lunch hour on Fridays to accomodate prayer that be expected to get up on Sunday morning for it

3) I'm convinced the US is just a hair's breadth away from being run by fundamentalist nutjobs anyway

I don't think so, their people see good thing and bad things of our culture, and everyone wants ultimatley to be free as in US, or even more (from the government), however US actions in the ME for decades (since WWII, before it was the Brits) have brought this upon us, and there is a couple of generations of people there where true terrorists can be born and US foreign policy just makes the things they are saying become true. Look just in the story of Saddam Hussein and Iraq. So they get support and next moment the tide turn, now we have the wars looming again, that will create more of the same - terrorists and their supporters (unless we have local support like in Afghanistan, than I think the war will not neccessarily breed terrorists, but somehow I doubt this will happen in Iraq).

Like those POW's that are in Guantanamo... if they ever doubted their Mullahs that the west is hell, and that USA is the Great Satan, Guantanamo surely erased all their doubts. Whether they were the terrorists or whether they were innocent.

Instead of spending 100 billion+ on the war, you could have spent 1/4 of it on Afghanistan and infrastucture and build a popular base for yourself in the region, and show the people that US is not such a great satan it appaers to be... however that will never happen will it?
