The old borders will be restored. The Islamic Empire of Faithg has unilaterally claimed both Venus and Mars (You think I would be doing nothing all these years didn;t you) All ships landing on these planets must first have permission from Islamic cointrol.'

[sorry about the somewhat contradiction between this post and your last one, Jack, but this is how I have always planned it and I think it works better this way as well.]

Antimatter Project finished. Information is stored in the best security location in Japan and a Japanese-installed place in the Free World, so security is virtually impenetrable. The scientists and equipment of the project have been similarly secured. A joint Japan/Free World Antimatter refinery station has been put in close orbit around the sun (a star is the only place where antimatter refining can take place) and is protected by significant military hardware of an undisclosed and unquantified nature. A Japanese space fleet is in the process of being commissioned, antimatter giving them better inter-planetary abilities. Antimatter, however, is extremely expensive and dangerous, meaning so far only a few Japanese and Free World Military Spacecraft and Government run freighters are being modified to be powered by it. Antimatter is also expected to be incorporated into some of the inter-planetary Japanese space program, cutting time off some projects.

New Top Secret Project: Japan has initiated a project similar to antimatter one designed to build space engines that will run on a fusion fuel, and be much cheaper and safer and therefore open to companies and perhaps even the general public.

Additional Top Secret Project: (This project has been commissioned despite the fact that Japan has pretty much run out of money for extra projects and unless funding is freed up this project will make only infinitesimal progress) What is planned is a system that will help to protect against any anti-matter weaponry designed in the future. This will include surveillance and detection, a space based interception system, and some other things that are still in the design phase. This is planned to be based in the Japanese Halo (the orbiting structures used to launch space missions that have been slowly but steadily expanding to include a little mini society that is beginning to thrive off of the Earth-Luna trade as well as supplying the logistics for missions out into the solar system) and partially bases on the Japanese portion of Luna.

We wish to help fully in the projects that you have mentioned. Of course we think we can produce anti matter on earth, but if something were to go wrong it would cause a very large release of energy and destroying matter itself. So we will for now rely on the antimatter supply form the Sun. We are now currently designing spacecraft that will be able to use anti matter safely and we believe as we continue to refine the process that we will be able to use anti matter in a cheep and safe way. Soon we will have vessials ready for testing and are being consturcted in earth orbit.

With anti matter weapons we are going to run experiments on using small amounts of anti matter in shells for artilery, bombs, and tank shells, but enough to cause small explusions.

Here’s what is supposed about antimatter [I by no means pretend to actually know anything about it, this is just some stuff I’ve read that I think is reasonable, this can of course be changed, modified, or people can adapt the principles, I just thought it would be a good idea to suggest a framework for the technology so we are all operating on roughly the same basis and don’t contradict each other too much] ---
-Antimatter is not found in natural environments due to its volatile (understatement) nature, you could search through cubic light years of space and only find a few anti-atoms.
-The production of antimatter requires immense amounts of energy and technical effort. You can of course accumulate it slowly anywhere you have the equipment and an energy source, but the only way to produce a meaningful amount takes enormous sums of energy; even the combined efforts of a nation’s entire power system (if you could somehow switch it over to a single installation) would only produce a moderate amount of antimatter. Thus the logical place to put the refinery would be in a location where you are constantly being bombarded with monstrous amounts of energy, such as in very close orbit of a star.
-Once antimatter has been produced, containing it is very difficult and precarious. It immediately reacts to any contact with real matter, so it must be held with complex electric and magnetic processes, making, until better technology is developed, transport and utilization slow and bulky and measured use nearly impossible. Most of these things, fortunately (or unfortunately?), are alleviated by the environment in space.

I also think that in general, this game is passing beyond a system which can be as well controlled by civ techs as it can by SMAC. I recommend we begin easing ourselves into using SMAC tech as more of a framework. I’m not suggesting we turn this into SMAC style play with the faction ideology etc., but adopting some of the tech progress would be beneficial. The timeframe is beginning to be appropriate, and it would probably give an additional boost to gameplay that certainly couldn’t hurt.

Thanks for the info on anti matter. I was kind of basing this on star trek, since the space ships use anti matter in the warp drives, and too I have read that one day when we start making probes to go to other solar systems that they would use anti matter to power them so that they could go at least half the speed of light.
We dont have to go into too much detail and we can assume that we have found a way to use anti matter in a way that is possible and worth while. Just so that we can start going in to space and everything.

Your idea that all nations should have anti matter technology for free is rediculus. We have spent large amounts of capital time and resoucres into this project and will not just give it away for free.

We may be able to use cold fussion to produce more anti matter, and would not need to be so close to a star. We could try to see if it is possible to produce it on earth for varrious appilcations(peacefull ones). We still may need to look into this matter more closely.

we note your claiming of the entirety of Mars. In the interests of friendship, instead of ignoring it we come to you diplomatically with a proposition: Consider revising your claim on Mars to perhaps half or a third of the surface, and it will end up benefiting you greatly. Isolating your colonists will damage them more than aid them. If you open up parts of Mars to colonization from elsewhere, not only will the colonists be more likely to prosper due to the input and trade amongst themselves, but it also resolves the conflict between trying to respect your claim and the great benefits in ignoring it. If you open up select portions, not only will you have greater say in where other colonists land and tensions will be reduced, but the colonists will be better off also. This is the wisest course of action. Please implement it.
