Absolutely agreed, it would be much easier in this case. But the problem is that people of 192 nationalities iirc, consider Russia as their home and if we’ll make a new division f.e. like in USA- instead of 89 regions Russia currently have, will divide it on 50 states in dependence of geographic location, then I’m 100% sure that people who live in national republics will consider this as an attempt to destroy their culture, language, etc and they wouldn’t like it. Leaders of those regions are pretty happy to enjoy reduced taxes and various support programs from federal budget and there is no way they will ratify such division in senate. So, I don’t see how it could be solved. It’s very complicated problem. Perhaps the only way to solve it is a new constitution and referendum about this question, but I guess it wouldn’t happen in nearest future. Perhaps after 15-30 years?

Oh, perhaps Russia is the only country, which have problems with separatists? What about others? What IRA fights for? Basques? Perhaps Quebec doesn’t want independence? etc, etc. Let them win too? Or it’s only Russia that should disintegrate because you guys don’t like, while other countries that experience problems with separatists should remain solid?
If yes- only Russia should do this, then fine, really great logic- very honest, fair and without any sign of hypocrisy
If no- let them all go, then could you guaranty that growing Spanish speaking population in your country wouldn’t declare independence within next say 15-20 years? How about them?
As for- “good for little Chechens”
Their current president Ahmad Kadyrov during first war fought VS. Russians, many people who fought vs. Russians during first war, before 1996, today serve in Chechen police and among with Russians fight vs. Maskhadov (who call himself president of Chechnya, the guy who planed and gave order to took hostages in Nord-Ost musical) and his bandits. Never ask yourself why? Why those people changed their views and today fight among Russians (their former enemies in near past) vs. people whom calling themselves “government of independent Chechnya”?
Hint: They are not freedom fighter, but bandits and Islamic religious extremists who during 1996-1999 established Islamic Fundamentalist state with inhuman laws, flooded Chechnya with foreign mercenaries and preachers of Vahhabite teachings (Taliban’s preachers mostly) and piss off local population so much, that people who fought for independence of Chechnya during first war, today fight together with Russians against those bastards.
Today it isn’t about independence of Chechnya. Today it’s about war against religious extremists and terrorists.

You sound like some Stalinists here- Russians needs “strong arm”- because a suffering is a natural condition for Russians, they can endure everything… and the same bullshit.
We over-fulfilled our plan for suffering by 1000% in last century. We are very patient and endure people, but everything has its limits, including our tolerance for suffering. We are humans after all, not some kind of machines.
