I'm so glad to hear that there are really some amarican guy's, who uses a german word to be hip!

Actually there are the germans, who uses every english word wich seems to sounds cooler than the german one!

I don't know ..., but i think you actually means "Über" or what ...

@ nagash most certainly he means über but try to use an ü when there is none on your keyboard. It's the same with ä,ö and ß ........

Sorry, ü isn't very accessable on most American keyboards, so we got lazy and just used u instead.

True, but ueber just isn't as much fun as uber or über.

On a more significant note, are you guys almost ready? The game starts in just a few days, and contacting Markos about getting a forum, etc. would probably be a good idea.

as a representivite of america i say you change all your crazy umlauts (is that the word?) to something i can write easily on my keyboard, or teach me the command.

ueber? meh.

maybe you guys can help me on this one:

does KruX mean something in German? cause, i'm just refrencing the english word "crux", but whenever some german dudes see it (like, when i play Counter-Strike on a german server) they all start spouting german at me.

i tried to look it up one day and i think i got something with the crucifix. any ideas?

oh, and, you're going to die in this game. make no mistake about that

OH and another thing.

could you name your cities really awesome names? i love the way germans can merge like 14 words into one 47 letter word. so awesome.

well, thats it.

oh, and heres some Rammstein for you (yup, i'm so germano-hip )

Lauft!

and heres what i think it means (from my limited understanding of germany my grandfather tried to teach me). watch, i got something wrong and i really said "i'm a fairy" or something.

Run!

Because the master has sent us
We announce the downfall
of the riders of evil
Feed his ulcer of envy

The truth is like a thunderstorm
It comes to you, you can hear it
To proclaim it is so bitter
It comes to you in order to destroy

Because the night lay dying
We announce Doomsday
There will be no mercy
Run, Run for your lives

The truth is a chorus of wind
No angel comes to avenge you
These days are your last
It will break you like little sticks

If you are interested in writing Umlaute, here is the code (it's just html, I don't know ASCI or so), it's easy if you know how to do it:
ä is &.auml; (remove . between & and a)
you just have to learn & and ;, the a is easy because you want ä, and the uml is short for Umlaute. So the other codes are:
Ä &.Auml;
ö &o.uml;
Ö &O.uml;
ü &u.uml;
Ü &U.uml;

the last one, ß, is a bit strange. The code is &.szlig; but I don't know what the lig could mean. But the sz is clear, because the ß is called sz.

And before you ask: Yes, I was bored, I had something to do while I waited for dinner.

"lig" is an abbreviation of "ligature", which means 2 letters "gluing" together. There are other ligatures, like æ (æ) or œ (œ).

Back to Rammstein..

I swapped the files so that the DipNALateWar.mp3 plays Links 2 3 4. It sounds very militant so its very appropriate for war soundtrack.

Oh and can you translate those long words so people who don't understand german well has an idea what you are saying

Sure:

Geschwindigkeitsbeschränkung : speed limit
Erwartungserwartungen : "awaitings of awaitings" : sorry, this is sociological talk, and I don't know the English word for it.

You can extend this at will. Here I add a tone to the color:
Donaudampffahrtschiffkapitänsuniformjackenknopffar
bton

Here's the guy who invented it:
Donaudampffahrtschiffkapitänsuniformjackenknopffar
btonerfinder

Here is his wife:
Donaudampffahrtschiffkapitänsuniformjackenknopffar
btonerfinderehefrau

And here her hairstyle:
Donaudampffahrtschiffkapitänsuniformjackenknopffar
btonerfinderehefrauenfrisur

You can continue this ad infinitum. Nobody talks this way here, of course. Such words have the sole purpose to discourage foreigners to learn German.

As someone who is currently taking a German course (I took 4 years of German many years ago... been several years since then and I'm trying to pick my skill back up...), I'll tell you this isn't particularly nice to the poor souls just starting with the language...

Personally, my favorite German compound words in German are the ones Immanuel Kant made up... the English translations (I don't remember exactly what they were in German...) are:

Universalizability (the ability of a maxim to be universalized)
Ends-in-themselves (using "end" as with the translation to English of "end" for the Greek word "telos" - not as the typical usage of "end" in English. The term refers to those things, Kant argued people, for which/whom their "end" or purpose, was derived in-and-of-themselves as opposed to externally derived)

The equivalent German words I remember being intimidatingly long, but I don't remember exactly which terms Kant squished together to say these things.

It would be very fun if you gave your cities long compound-word names... It would also discourage conquests because by the time the opposing army was even able to read the order to attack a city, you would be able to rush troops there to defend it. Also, if you made sure you have lots of ä ö ü ß in the names, and even ë ï ð þ for good measure, then no one could even type the order! Instead of going to the big German city of München, the troops would find themselves going to the little Korean hamlet of Mun Chen halfway around the world.

If you’re going to be the Arabs, then you could have even more confusion by authentically naming your capital مكّة or is it ماكّة ?

Slightly OT but I hate it when people spell it "Munster". Just a pet peeve of mine. It's like whoever's spelling it is purposely taunting me and acting like some lazy American teenager with no emotion. Not 'munster' "MUUUUUUEEEENNNNSTERRRR"!!!!
