Alexander The Great Scenario Support Apolyton, buy Alpha Centauri

Hello everybody!

I have some questions about the Alexander campaign, maybe somenone can help me:

- how do I get settlers? In the scenario rules it says only upon special events. Does anybody know what that means?

- where and when does Alexander have to be in order to let 'special events' take place? In the scenario rules it says that Alexander's presence at certain times and places will do something.

- do I have to keep the peace treaty with the Corinthian League?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Tobi

Put an end to popups!

ok, settlers. Straight from the SLC:

code:
// if C[orinthian] L[eague] is allied to M[acedonia (you)], 4% chance per turn a new Settler unit is created in Pella

I'd guess you have to own Pella as well

So to skip to your last question, you don't have to keep the peace, but then you don't get settlers. Which would explain HuangShang's experience...

Special events, there's loads. If you just wanted the one that triggered the settler, it's just keeping an alliance going, but there are many others.

Those directly influenced by Alexander's location (and this is by no means all of them, most are timers, or based on any Macedonian units ) are:

- When Alex enters Gordium, your regard with CL and the Greeks goes up.
- The first Magadhan city Alex comes across with 3 or less defenders is converted automatically
- Message when Alex enters Kasi
- Ex-Persian cities get realy happy when Alex is coronated in Babylon.
- If Alex dies, he is resurrected in his nearest city. If no cities, he is dead, and you have lost the scenario. (thinking about it, this can only happen if he died defending your last city, but whatever)

You're not supposed to tell everyone after looking at the SLIC files, the whole idea of the scenario is to find out for yourself (by playing!)

Tobi,
quote:
- where and when does Alexander have to be in order to let 'special events' take place? In the scenario rules it says that Alexander's presence at certain times and places will do something.

There are many dozens of special events in the Alexander scenario, from a simple message when you enter or approach a city to a complete 'mission' to get a full-grown son as your successor (for which you have to find (a) wife(s), have her bare a living child and have this child grow old enough to be able to succeed you). Many events take place upon entering or approaching certain cities or other key locations, others take place after you had combat, and there's a few that take place at random, at fixed times or for other reasons.

If you play the scenario you will encounter them soon enough, but keep in mind that the scenario revolves around Alexander and his historical life: many (but not all) events will only take place if Alexander does something. So if you keep him in Greece and send out your generals or regular stacks to do all the work for you, you will see far less events than when you send out Alexander himself. Also, the scenario is very much focussed on Persia, if you decide to conquer Rome and Carthage first, you will see far less events than when you take the same route as Alexander did historically (roughly: Turkey -> Phoenicia (= Israel) -> Egypt -> Babylon (=Iraq) -> Persia proper (= (West) Iran) -> India). The original plan was to include far more events for the Western half of the map but unfortunately time and resources were limited when the scenario was originally made Harlan (the mastermind behind the scenario) and I worked on an updated version of the scenario (with some very ambitious ideas) after the release of CtP2 but we never got around to finishing it

quote:
- do I have to keep the peace treaty with the Corinthian League?

You don't have to but the original idea was that this should be a very beneficial alliance (I think there may be a bug in this, not sure).

Tired of ads?

Yeah, I know, but Alex's ones aren't the best events anyway. And if you have an oldish PC then it does play really slowly. Having some idea of what to do can make itmuch more enjoyable.

Anyone managed to have Alexander get children in that scenario? I managed to get 4 wives (I think , maybe only 3) but no son or daughter. Not even a stillborn - I looked a little at some files to check if Alexander had to be somewhere in order to get children but couldn't find any reason why I wouldn't. Considering I have far more cities than I want and am basically doing nothing (giving non-key cities to allies and letting Carthaginians survive out of boredom), I'd like to be able to do something or have something happen to me in the end of the scenario, but... how do I get Alexander to get children?!!?

Its based purely on chance. Keep playing, and as long as Alex survives, you should get a kid eventually.

I've heard this quite a few times. Has anyone got a child before? I thought I had once, but it was a while ago.

So did I, and I got 2 children in no time.

There were some other bugs though, for things that I'm certain worked before, I think in my case a reinstall would be in order - that might solve some other people's problems too...

Huangshuang, you usually get the opportunity to marry a wife after winning an important battle (e.g. when you defeat Memnon or conquer certain cities).

Some of you guys gave me the hint, that I have to be allied with the Corinthian League in order to get Settlers. My problem is, that I never get anything better than a peace treaty. What do I have to do to make them my allies?

Tobi,
You need to establish an embassy with a Diplomat for that, but I can' remember if I ever tested if that code actually works (the code looks okay though, in theory it should).

Hi Locutus!

Unfortunelately, the Macedonians cannot build diplomats and they do not start out with diplomats either. They have not discovered bureaucracy yet (and it is not avaible either). What can I do now?

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

You HAVE TO have Theocracy in this scen. Here is why:
Theocracy = many cities.
Monarchy = 40 cities.
Conclusion: You'll have lots of lots of discontent if you are in Monarchy.
Also, do NOT switch the science production from theology(?) to anything else (like chivalry), because afterwards theology will never be offered to you, and thus you will be stuck with a poor government for all the scen. That and not being able to get children will spoil the game.

As for diplos, I think I remember having some embassies, so at some point you must get diplo's through events if I remember well.

Diplomats are available with philosophy in the scenario, as beaurocracy is barred. You can build them normally, and are not affected by events.
