OK, in meantime, I've created something like "flagship prototype" (or any other ship prototype). It's at early stages of development, so it still lacks much of details (still no texturing, and beware, UV map is partial!). This ship is "equiped" with fusion ram jet (I did't know how that thing should look like, so dot'l laugh!)

To clarify, Aaglo made a POV-Ray rendition of a colony ship, in principle filling the role of the Unity in SMAC, for the initial idea of having only one planet.

Targon's rendition is for "Flagships", the control center, the seat of player's influence, in the tentative game idea for multi-world setting.

Here is the last sample rendering of the above flagship design. Some parts, most notable textures, are still missing, some others may need a bit of overhaul, but I think posting this will keep that thread warm and may show that something is happening in the StPDT

This maybe a silly question, but which side of the ship is front? Are those four bottle-shaped things intended to be engines, or guns? (It'd probably be obvious with texturing, so this is by no means intended to be criticism... the ship looks very nice.)

Leland has a point. It looks very good but to someone who didn't build it then it would be confusing as to which side was which. I believe the front is the front of the picture and the back is the bottle type stuff. Which are suppost to represent propulsion systems.

UV texturing is now OK, while some small details are still missing. BTW, I'm getting somewhat bored from this ship, so let's leave it as is unless someone spots really wierd flaws.
Oh, damn! I've forgot to resample texture to OpenGL 2^m per 2^n, don't beat me! I think I resolve this long before any working engine will be realised to the eager public
