2590 BC - Disappointment: Just A Peninsula
Expectations were high... we hoped Howard would find the isthmus to be a landbridge to another landmass we could explore and possibly settle later on. Well, it seems we will have to part with this idea. Even though there may still be some little hope, Howard sent a message he was quite certain there's just a peninsula to the north, mostly hills and a high peak... He intends to climb the peak to be able to see as much of the surrounding ocean as possible. In the light of these news, our Numidian Mercenary turned back towards Legopolis. Escorting settlers and enforcing laws in Legopolis will sure be much better job for him than idling at the isthmus...
Well, that was bad news. Fortunately, we do have some good news, too. Gaul reports there seems to be at least a bit of more land to the south of the desert he has been crossing for some time. He is currently standing on the hillsteps of a range running from NW to SE. Very soon, he will be standing atop of it and able to report on whether there is more land further South, beyond the range, or not.
Conan has taken care of escorting our new priceless asset, a party of Sumerians, to the site of our next city. Since the Sumerians would have preferred staying in their old village, Conan went to great lengths to explain the terrain there was no good for health. Remembering not just one epidemy of deadly diseases, the Sumerians eventually decided to follow his advice and moved just a bit to the SE, against the flow of Eastfork River. They were lucky to find a wonderful place there and shall be founding their new home very soon.

The expansion of our empire is speeding up! Some already speak of a rapid expansion... Legopolis will have another party of colonists ready pretty soon! However, because of the recent discoveries made by Howard, the party may eventually be sent to a different location than the previously planned site at the isthmus.

2550 BC - Foundation of Farmerville
Even though few expected so, this year has been full of important events! The most notable being perhaps the foundation of Farmerville, which is going to house our Sumerian fellow citizens down in the south. That site has such an abundance of food that it is likely to grow superfast! The laborious Sumerians shall sure contribute greatly to the growth and overall progress of our glorious empire - they have already started putting together a unit of workers to improve the Farmerville riverbanks in order to increase the production of their city!
Although the new city was drawing lots of attention, our warrior-explorers managed to get some, too, thanks to the discoveries they've made. Howard, heading for the peninsula peak, confirmed what many hoped for. There is another landmass very close to us, right West of the peninsula! Even the most primitive vessel will get us there! Howard still intends to climb the mountain in order to be able to overlook a larger portion of that new landmass.
Gaul, down in the south, reported good news, too - further to the south, behind the desert and hill range, there is quite a bit of more land! He will follow the hill range, trying to see as much as possible, making our knowledge of that area more detailed. Conan left the Sumerians and is now heading eastwards, intending to explore the eastern jungle, which blends into forests just about east of Farmerville.

The second settler expedition gathering in Legopolis is almost ready to set out! Covered by MercG, our great Numidian Mercenary, they should leave Legopolis at their earliest covenience. Interestingly, it's still not decided, where the expedition will go to, whether to the West or to the South...

2510 BC - Barbarians!
The departure of our second settler expedition from Legopolis has been pushed to background by an unexpected event taking place North of Jackson. Jackson citizens wandering in that area reported seeing two barbarian warriors heading probably southwards, toward the city of Jackson and our worker! We will need to respond to this threat immediately. Fortunately, even if the barbarians waste no time and head directly for Jackson, they will arrive at the city gates just in time to be welcomed by our new Numidian Mercenary, whose training is almost over now. If our worker manages to control his panic, he should be able to finish the road to the cattle area and then seek the cover in Jackson, protected by the Mercenary. However, to protect our valuable terrain improvements, we will need to dispatch at least one more armed unit to the endangered area, making sure the barbarians are given no choice to pillage...

After lengthy discussions, it seems our second settler expedition will eventually wander to the isthmus site. Our settlers crossed the Plastico River and will continue to their destination guarded either by Angus, who - rather unexpectedly - left Legopolis, joining the expedition (rumours say he had "emotional ties" to one of the female-settlers...), or by MercG, who joined the expedition arriving from the northern hills. Whoever parts with the settlers will undoubtedly have to rush to Jackson, to help getting rid of the raiding barbarians...
Howard, after ejoying another nice mountain climb, was able to have a splendid look from atop the high peak on the northern tip of the Hammer Peninsula (named so because of the characteristic shape). He has been able to confirm that across a narrow strait, there's at least a moderately sized landmass to our NW. Alas, until we learn how to build ships, the lands over there will remain unreachable... Howard, naming the mountain The Hammer Tip, is going to return to the Panama site now.
Conan and Gaul had nothing really exciting to report. Conan spotted a hill and a mountain approximately East of Farmerville - they should be excellent places to learn more about that part of our landmass. Gaul, whom we did not heard from, perhaps changed his mind a bit and instead of following the hill range to SE, dived down to a coastal plain. We suppose that he intends to follow the coastline further to the south.

2470 BC - Barbarians Approaching Jackson
The two barbarian warriors are approaching Jackson. Fortunately, our courageous folk does not panic. Jackson has finished training their garrison unit, a Numidian Mercenary fondly named Merciless after someone everybody knows very well... Merciless shall have no problem defending Jackson from the barbarians, thanks to his superior training and equipment. Should the barbarians dare to attack, they will certainly get their asses kicked! Taking no chances, our other Mercenary, MercG, is moving to the area, too. Thanks to the road, it shouldn't take him more than two turns to join Merciless, cleaning the area of any intruders then. Even our worker, almost hearing the battlecry of the approaching barbarians, did not lose his courage and was hastily finishing the road to the sea-cow area. Hats off to the guy!

It has been officially confirmed that our fourth city will be founded at the Panama site, near the southern end of the Hammer Peninsula. Angus is currently escorting our settlers there, expecting Howard to join the party on his way back from the peninsula trip...
Our other two warriors keep exploring. Conan aims for the high mountain east of Farmerville and Gaul continues southwards, currently passing through fertile coastal plains... Soon, he should be able to tell us more about what lies further to the south.

2430 BC - Our First Victorious Battle!
In the year of 2430BC, the brave Legolese folk fought the very first victorious battle! Merciless, well fortified in Jackson, successfully defended against one of the marauding barbarian warriors, that was foolish enough to attempt attacking our city. Merciless proved to be worthy of bearing his name! He slaughtered the barbarian ruthlessly, suffering not even the slightest scratch. No surprise he is now considered a veteran unit. More of such heroes!
The other barbarian avoided a head-on attack and followed the coast to the sea-cow area. As we have recently finished a brand new road there, we will have to make sure the marauder gets no chance to damage or destroy our improvement. Fortunately, both Merciless and MercG are close enough to the area to take care of the "problem" for us.
Both our exploring warriors down in the South reported discovering new lands. Gaul, heading straight to the South, is currently passing by pretty well-sized coastal lowlands, rising to hills further inland. His message stated he would keep moving southwards until he runs into a coast. Conan, climbing a mountain at the spring of the Eastfork River, revealed a vast area of somewhat dry interior south of the mountain, blending into hills further to the east.

On a short notice, our settler, escorted by Angus, follows the Plastico River to the North-East... E.T.A. to the Panama site: 2350BC. And our wise men report good progress with the research of Writing. Even though everybody though it would take eons to learn it, we seem to have a good chance of being able to write before the end of this millenium!

2390 BC - Barbarians Routed!
Following Merciless' successful defense of Jackson, MercG was able to score his kill, too! Unfortunately, having to slaughter his prey outside Jackson, with very little audience, he - quite unjustly! - failed to achieve the veteran status in the eyes of the Jackson folk... Both barbarian raiders are dead now and Merciless has already set out tracing the camp these marauders came from. He is going to make sure we get no more unexpected visitors, perhaps collecting some spare gold from the bodies of passed barbarians...
The settler expedition from Legopolis has almost reached its destination, the site tentatively called Panama. Alarmed by the recent barbarian raid at Jackson, the expedition left the banks of Plastico River and taken to the hills along the western coast, enjoying a splendid view... With Howard approaching from the North, Angus is likely to part with the settlers and turn to the South. His mission is to make sure that a small, yet not fully explored peninsula in the West is actually not a landbridge connecting us to another landmass.
An encouraging news came from Gaul. Down in the South, in the coastal lowlands, just at the hillsteps of the range he is currently following southwards, he was able to spot a lesser tribe village! Even though there is no guarantee the local folk will be friendly to him, he does intend to make contact as soon as possible.
Conan, even though not discovering a lesser tribe village, actually sent a very important message this time, too. Not that far from his current position, there apparently is a vast body of water. Common sense suggests it's a part of the same sea ships from Jackson will once sail.

Back home, things are running pretty smoothly. The only little problem is that the men of Jackson, forced to focus on the sentry duties for some time, were neglecting their wives, somewhat delaying the baby boom we were expecting in our cities - Jackson will be a little bit late to the party... Anyway, the people of Legoland are now very confident that Legos the Wise is leading them to a very bright future. To express their gratitude, they vastly improved his residence, so far a rather modest cave-like place, by flattening the plateau in front of it, creating a wonderful square-like place where feasts and celebrations shall take place.

2350 BC - Barbarians Everywhere!
Even though the first barbarian raid was successfully and swiftly dealt with by Merciless and MercG, we seem to be having more and more troubles with mad warriors coming out of the shroud. Right after the message from Merciless arrived to Jackson, reporting he located the barbarian camp in the very heart of the Northern Mountains, yet another barbarian related news spread out. This time, though, it is very serious.
Our Sumerian fellow citizens in Farmerville are under direct threat from another barbarian warrior, which is almost at the city gates... To our greatest sorrow, we have nobody in the area who could defend the helpless Farmervillers... MercG has already set out from Jackson, heading southwards, but considering the distance, it will take some time until he gets there. We shall expect some pretty grim news from Farmerville in the near future...

The settler expedition from Legopolis has reached its destination! Covered by Howard, rushing back from his Hammer Peninsula trip, the settlers will be founding our fourth city, Panama, in no time. Angus, relieved of his duties with the settlers, turned south, heading for the unexplored peninsula. Down in the South, Gaul is getting ready to make contact with the lesser tribe on the coast and Conan keeps exploring in the SE direction.
We have enjoyed sort of a baby boom this turn, with two out of three Legolese cities going up a pop point! Thanks to the extra gold revenue, our researchers, generously funded from the state treasury, are closing on the discovery of Writing. Few more turns and we will finally be able to write! Wow, what about starting a chronicle then?

2310 BC - Foundation of Panama
The year of 2310BC saw our fourth city, called Panama, founded. Even though there is less than enough land suitable for growing crops in the vicinity of the city, a game-rich forest shall supply enough fresh food for at least the first several thousands of Panama citizens. The garrison duty will be taken care of by Howard, at least until Panama trains its own garrison, a mighty Numidian Mercenary. Strategically located at the neck of the Hammer Peninsula, at a hill rising above the bend of the Plastico River, Panama shall once become a thriving harbour city.
Meanwhile in Farmerville... our fellow Sumerians did not give up - left on their own, took to arms! Their men, previously readying for worker assignments, grabbed strong bows and formed a unit of archers! Hopefully the barbarian raider will now be met with a determined opposition. Our ruler, Legos the Wise, will however have to put up with the fact that Sumerians are somewhat bitter about being provided with no help in the moment of emergency. It seems that for some time, Legos' popularity in Farmerville will be less than what he's used to in other cities... indirectly requiring stronger government presence in the city.
Far in the Northern Mountains, Merciless is closing for the kill! He has been able to move into a very good position and informed Jackson officials that he plans to raze the barbarian camp any time now. Likewise, MercG is pushing his way southwards through the eastern jungle, searching for where the warrior threatening Farmerville came from.
Gaul met with the lesser tribe of Illuryians. Friendly villagers provided him with drawings depicting the world they knew, largely enhancing our knowledge about the geography of the southern lands. It seems that the area is extremely suitable for settling. Lush green lowlands are edged by wonderful hills, undoubtedly hiding various ores and minerals... if only this paradise was closer to our empire!
Conan continues his journey roughly along the east coast of our landmass. Unfortunately, the news coming from him are just the opposite of those from Gaul. Among steep hills, just dry sandy valleys... It is very difficult to imagine any prospering settlements there...

Our two most ancient cities, Legopolis and Jackson, are now together housing almost 100,000 people! Thanks mostly to their contribution, our production is unmatched in the whole world...

Our wise men, slowly finishing their research on the art of Writing, rejected some of the funds originally allocated to their research - seems that extra funds would not make them research faster now... thanks to exceptionally good tax revenues from Farmerville, too, our quite thin treasury is recovering!

2270 BC - Barbarians Losing!
As if named by a clairvoyant, Merciless proves to be a fighter true to his name. Taking no rest after reaching the heart of the Northern Mountains, he attacked the barbarian camp there with a raging fury, slaughtering every single barbarian, looting the corpses for 25 gold coins... No surprise he now belongs to our elite troops!
The bravery and determination our fellow Sumerians had shown by fortifying Farmerville impressed the wandering barbarian so much that he turned away from the city, probably heading northwards for his jungle base. He might be unpleasantly surprised after being welcomed by MercG, currently cutting his way through the thick jungle in just the opposite direction, seeking the camp...

Howard finally arrived at Panama, planning to take some rest there, taking care of the security in the area. Angus, in the meanwhile, got almost to the peninsula he has been ordered to explore. Gaul enjoys an easy walk through the coastal lowlands, trying to spot some land across the western seas... alas, just water so far... he plans to turn back to the hills soon. And Conan, our last, but not least explorer, reached a great range running zig-zag along the eastern coast. He intends to follow it southwards, taking advantage of the high coastal hills, watching the east horizon for any signs of another landmass. To make the report complete, let's just note that our worker finished mining and moved to the sea-cow area to build yet another mine there.

The year of 2270BC was generous to our treasury. Not only Merciless looted the barbarian camp for 25 gold, but we managed to save even more on our research, without actually slowing it down. We are now as rich as never before!

2230 BC - Go, Legoland, Go!
After turbulent years filled with barbarian raids, Legoland has finally ejoyed a little bit of quiet. The barbarian warrior recently threatening Farmerville vanished in the dark shadows of the eastern jungle, soon to be traced down and slain by MercG... Farmervillers can breathe freely again!
Panama is safe under the supervision of Howard, too, Jackson fears nobody with Merciless coming back from his extremely successfull retaliation strike on the barbarian camp, and Legopolis has just finished training its own Numidian Mercenary (the third our unit of this kind). We are doing just great!
Far down in the south, Gaul did turn away from the coast and is now following a hill range roughly to SE, hoping to chart the southern coast of our landmass. Conan follows the coastal hill range southwards, looking for the southeastern corner of our continent.

Production-wise, Legoland is speeding up, too. As mentioned before, Legopolis is going to field our third Numidian Mercenary very soon. With another one being slowly trained in Panama, our folk will be as safe as never before, able to focus on developing all that wonderful land we have at our disposal. Legopolis shall put together another band of workers whose primary task will be to connect Panama to Legopolis, perhaps improving the Panama area later.
Jackson is nearing the completion of our next settler expedition. Even though the decision is not final yet, it is pretty likely that the settlers will, covered by the new Numidian Mercenary from Legopolis, wander to the confluence of Northfork and Westfork Rivers to found a city there. Plus, in a very short time, our wise men will publicly present their most fundamental discovery, the art of Writing. With all these great news, is there anyone surprised to see Legoland becoming the worlds's greatest empire?
Certainly not and that's undoubtedly why citizens of this great empire decided to honor their ruler, Legos the Wise, by further improving his residence, adding monumental stone stairs.

2190 BC - A Landbridge?!
By far the most exciting news of 2190BC came from Angus. Even though his mission was meant to check there is no landbridge in the west of our landmass, he actually discovered a narrow extension of land that may lead to somewhere. Huge crowds gathered on the squares of our cities, as people discussed consequences of Angus' discovery. Being the least known warrior of ours so far, Angus seems to be getting his chance to become famous!
Trying to avoid a head-on encounter with MercG, the barbarian warrior threatening Farmerville few years ago left the cover of jungle and reappeared on the grassland NE of the city. However, with Farmervillers still maintaining their armed home guard and MercG approaching from the North, this warrior is most probably enjoying the last moments of his life...
The new, yet unnamed Numidian Mercenary fielded by Legopolis moved atop the Poor Twin to be able to overview as much of the surrounding jungle as possible. He will join to escort the settler expedition from Jackson on its way south to the Red Bricks area shortly (Jackson is finishing the very last preparations and the expedition shall be setting out on the next turn).

Compared to the big news from Angus, Gaul and Conan remained rather out of public interest this time. Both of our brave explorers followed their principal directions, revealing nothing really surprising. Gaul should be enjoying a view at the southern sea shortly, finally arriving at the southern coast of our landmass, while Conan is getting a bit bored by his coastal tour... sea to the left, lowlands to the right, hills under his feet...
Feeling the urge to improve the connection between our capital and Panama, the citizens of Legopolis started forming a band of workers that will build a road to our youngest city (after all, many of them have relatives living in Panama... and spending 400 years travelling along the Plastico Rover just to drop in is definitely nobody's idea of keeping in touch).
After many years of demanding research, our wise men will be unveiling their greatest discovery ever, the art of Writing, any time now! Worried by the fact that our vast landmass is difficult to navigate without any aids, they consider to study possibilities of describing geography features by means of maps then...

2150 BC - A Landbridge!!!
This kind of news has never been heard throughout Legoland before! Angus found a landbridge leading to another part of our continent! That narrow neck is a way to unexplored western lands. Last, but definitely not least... that's what we shall forever think about our Angus. He had a slow start, but now, he won't be forgotten ever...

It goes without saying that Angus will continue beyond the isthmus, making sure we learn as much as possible about the newly accessible area.
Compared to what Angus reported this year, everything else was just negligible... Gaul and Conan kept charting our coastal areas, Gaul in the SW and Conan in the SE, with no exciting discoveries. Jackson bade farewell to settlers setting out for the Red Bricks site. They will be joined by their escort (3rd Numidian Mercenaries) near the Poor Twin, while leaving the road.
MercG was able to locate the camp of the jungle barbarians worrying Farmervillers... even though these barbarians never tresspased the Farmerville perimeter, MercG is unlikely to leave the camp be... And the last important thing happening: the public announcement of our researchers - we are now officially able to to write! This discovery shall prove essential to the very next research project of Legoland - the Map Making, which allows building and navigating ships!

2110 BC - We're Getting Rich
Perhaps the most notable event of this year was MercG's disposing of a barbarian camp hidden deep in the eastern jungle, collecting some gold from the slain barbarians along. Thanks to his nice contribution, we are now almost twice as richer! From the smoldering remains of the barbarian camp, MercG was able to spot a lesser tribe village on a hill just west of the camp. He will waste no time and contact the villagers, as they may have valuable information to tell us. Oh, and in case they decide to turn hostile... MercG will make sure there will be a couple of nicely aligned graves overlooking the sea shore...
As for our other explorers: Angus is currently crossing the isthmus, already spotting high mountains on the other side. They should help him reveal a good deal of that unknown area. Gaul, down in the South, may have something pretty interesting for us very soon. Even though not 100% sure, he believes he spotted a small bit of land across the sea west of the southwesternmost tip of our landmass. There definitely is something there, he will just have to find out what...
Conan keeps following the eastern coast to the South. After a long journey through rather hostile lands, he is now approaching a wonderful place along a river, with lots of both fertile grassland and hills. Let's just hope one of our settlers will get there fast enough... it would be a shame if we didn't manage to settle this area...

Legopolis sent a new band of workers to extend the existing northwestern road to Panama. It shall take considerable time to finish the task, as there is a hill and some jungle between the two cities... but it must be done, so we better start soon. The settler expedition from Jackson left the road and, escorted now by the 3rd Numidian Mecenaries, crossed the Plastico River, heading for its destination at the confluence of the Northfork and Westfork Rivers. E.T.A.: 1990BC.
The area of Farmerville seems to be just plagued with barbarians. Just a moment after MercG razed the jungle camp, yet another wild warrior emerged, coming from the South this time... bless the Farmervillers for forming their own garrison!

2070 BC - Let The Wheels Roll!
MercG's journey to the eastern jungle turns out to be an utmost triumph. Not only he sacked the camp of the jungle barbarians for nice 25 gold... this year, he was even able to secure a new technology for us! A friendly tribe of Illuryians, living in a village upon the slope of a coastal hill, kindly revealed the secret of the wheel to us.

With the discovery of this crucial advance, it has become apparent that we could very well use some domesticated beasts - like horses - for pulling carts and perhaps even making our military units mobile. Luckily, our explorers did report areas suitable for catching, taming, and breeding horses, even if it seemed unimportant at that time. There is one such area conveniently located just outside Panama, at the mouth of the Plastico River. Three more ones are scattered over the southern part of our landmass and yet another one is just across the narrow strait separating the Hammer Peninsula from the landmass to the West (perhaps accesible via the landbridge Angus currently explores). There are so many horses around that Legoland could very well be nicknamed Riddermark...

Angus has reached footsteps of high mountains on the other end of the landbridge. Very soon, standing atop of one of the peaks there, he shall be able to tell us much more about the lands beyond, further to the West.
Conan has revealed yet another paradise-like site at the mouth of a mighty river flowing into the Southeastern Sea. He intends to keep following the coast that is now slowly turning to the west, eventually meeting with Gaul, that reached the southwesternmost tip of our landmass and is turning back to the East now. Unfortunately, what previously seemed to be light mist above distant lands to Gaul, eventually turned out to be just the water spray spouted by a big herd of whales off the coast.
The home guard raised by Farmervillers seems to be a great deterrent for barbarians of all kinds. None of them dared to attack the city, even though a number of wild men keep circling around. Once Farmervillers start improving the vicinity of their city, the home guard will undoubtedly have to actively search and engage unwanted tresspassers, making sure none of their fellow citizens suffers any harm.

1990 BC - Farmerville-Barbarville?
If it was not for the barbarians around Farmerville, we might be experiencing a severe population drop-down, seeing lots of our fellow citizens dying from boredom... Angus, though on an extremely important exploration mission, could report seeing nothing but a sea of water to the left, a sea of sand ahead, and a sea of water to his right... Gaul has returned to where he had run into the southern coast for the first time, hopefully venturing eastwards, into less known lands, soon. Conan kept following the coast to the southwest, crossing a river, and MercG returned to the site of the former Illuryian village, intending to chart a small bit of coastal land to the southeast... Plus, our settler expedition, escorted by Mercred, finally reached its destination at the confluence of Westfork and Northfork Rivers, planning to found the city of Red Bricks very soon.

1950 BC - Red Bricks Founded!
In the year of 1950BC, the foundation stones of our fifth city were laid. The city of Red Bricks lies conveniently at the confluence of the Westfork and Northfork Rivers, protected from three sides with their waters. However, with the exception of a relatively tiny strip of grasslands extending towards Farmerville, the immediate vicinity is less than suitable for growing crops... Redbrickers thus immediately started forming a band of workers that will improve the city radius, cutting down the jungle and building roads North to Legopolis and SE to Farmerville.
The Farmerville archer home guard unit engaged the barbarian warrior wandering too close to their city with such a ferocity and determination that the intruder had absolutely no chance to survive. To award their bravery, the Farmerille Archers were promoted to veterans! The other barbarian, noticing the city undefended, could not resist the temptation and apparently closed in for a kill. Unfortunately - for him, that is - he chose a route too close to the position of the Farmerville Archers and will most probably be slain by their arrows prior to actually having a chance to attack the city.

After years of relative boredom, things finally get moving, even if only slowly for the time being. Down in the South, Conan spotted a barbarian warrior, which indicates yet another barbarian camp nearby. Most probably, its destruction will be left to Gaul, approaching the area along the southern coast. Conan shall stick to his planned route that will take him to the West now, back towards Farmerville. Farmevillers could sure use his strong hand to get rid of those pesky barbarians...
Angus, though having the most important assignment, has very little to report, currently crossing a pretty large desert area.

1910 BC - Barbarian Losses Mounting
Encouraged by their decisive victory over the barbarian wandering too close to their home city, the Farmerville Archers engaged the other intruder, too, and slain him with no mercy. They are now heading back to the city for a parade, which shall be held in celebration of their outstanding performance. Immediately after the parade, a newly formed band of Farmerville workers shall cross the Eastfork River and start improving the bonus grassland tile North of Farmerville. Hopefully, once the mine there is up and running, the production of Farmerville - so far rather woeful - will significantly increase. It is also planned to later connect Farmerville to Red Bricks, some 30 miles NW, with a fine road...

Conan, expressly ordered to lose no time hunting barbarians, is now heading to the hills NW of his current location, making use of the forest cover to successfully hide from the eyes of the hostile warrior. The area clean-up was assigned to Gaul... for him, it is going to be kind of a personal revenge, as he has been shamelessly ambushed by a barbarian apparently coming from a camp somewhere in the coastal hills this year. Fortunately, Gaul did not panick hearing the war cry of the attacker and skillfully threw his heavy axe, killing the barbarian well before he could use his own axe to do any harm.
Angus kept struggling to cross the large desert. He was able to spot a hill on the northern horizon, but the area as a whole seemed to be extremely unsuitable for any human settlement. It looks like the desert was once the bottom of the ocean that is now washing it from East and West...

1870 BC - Yet Another Lesser Tribe Village!
After years of relative boredom, a refreshing piece of news came from Conan. After successfully evading some pesky barbarians, he's been recently wandering inland in the far South. Looking back from atop of hills, he was able to spot a lesser tribe village on the southern coast. Being in a hurry, he decided to not get back and used his carrier pigeon to send a message to Gaul, currently approaching that area from the West. He shall take care of the barbarian camp that must be somewhere close to the village, hopefully making the villagers (perhaps not very happy about the presence of barbarians in their neighbourhood) more friendly and open to information exchange.
Angus keeps struggling to get across quite a large desert, aiming for a high peak rising on his northern horizon. After climbing it, he shall be able to overview a great deal of the land that seems more and more like a a giant peninsula, rather than a true landbridge to another continent...

Our production capacity is getting bigger every year. Farmerville has been able to send their worker band out to mine the fine grassland North of the city. Jackson will be fielding yet another fearsome Numidian Mercenary very soon... which allowed Merciless to go for a short exploration tour, making our knowledge of the eastern coast complete. Leopold successfully made his way through the jungle along the Plastico River and is currently getting ready to irrigate the plain area SE of Panama, helping the city to better feed its population, hopefully speeding up its growth.

1830 BC - Great Wonder Construction Begins
All headline news over the Legoland country tell the same: our glorious empire has begun the construction of something the whole world will look at in awe. Due to its outstanding production capabilities, Jackson - recently fielding a new Numidian Mercenary unit - has been chosen as the construction site. Although what exactly this grand construction will be is still held a secret, it is generally believed that there will be a new Palace built in Jackson.
Quite some news came from the South - Conan was able to uncover a large area pretty suitable for settling. A river flowing in the west-to-east direction creates sort of a borderline between a hill range and lowlands that offer good food production capabilities. Gaul, following the instructions from Conan, was able to locate not only the coastal lesser tribe village, but a barbarian camp, too. Contrary to what has been discussed before, he will most probably make contact with the lesser tribe first, finding out whether the barbarians are perceived as a potential threat or lived peacefully along.

We also expect quite some deal of new geographical information coming from Angus soon. He has reportedly got very close to the peak, which is currently his primary objective.
Other than that, there are no really exciting news to report - our activities focus on improving the terrain in the vicinity of our cities: Leopold currently irrigates plains SE of Panama, Jason has started building a mine S-SE of Legopolis, along the main Legopolis-Jackson road, and the new Farmerville worker band started mining the bonus grassland area just North of Farmerville.

1790 BC - Mountains As Far As You Can See
The most anxiously awaited news from Angus actually ended up disappointing many. There is no great land nor the mythical landbridge over there in the Northwest, just barren, rugged terrain - wanderers that beat the desert are "awarded" with high, cold mountains only... Angus, not giving up hope, will continue northwards, but expectations are quite low now...

Far in the southern part of our continent, Conan is heading for a high mountain, hoping to spot the barbarian camp that's been "supplying" Farmerville with unwanted visitors from there... while Gaul is approaching the lesser tribe village, intending to find out whether he should better leave the barbarians live in peace alongside the lesser tribe, or help the villagers to get rid of them once forever.
A newly fielded unit of Numidian Mercenaries has set out from Panama, being ordered to move into the area of the narrow landbridge connecting Legos Major with Legos Minor, eventually becoming a garrison of one of our future cities, planned to be built in that area. MercG and Merciless, having fulfilled their task of charting so far unexplored parts of our eastern coast, are now returning home, to Farmerville and Legopolis, respectively.
And thanks to the recent population growth in Legopolis, we have been able to squeeze in some more gold for our wise men that are trying to figure out how to draw maps and charts allowing us to leave the dry land and venture across water. Using the extra funds, they will most probably be able to finish their research well ahead of the original schedule.

1750 BC - Legoland Going Mystic
And one more time, our exploring warrior proved himself a living legend of diplomacy. Gaul, friendly approaching a Sumerian village in the far South of Legos Major, has been able to work out an outstanding deal. The poor Sumerians seem to have an ongoing problem with a band of barbarians camping SW of the village. The barbarians reportedly keep frightening Sumerian chicken and stealing their wives (or was it frightening the wives and stealing the chicken?). Gaul, fearing no pity barbarians, promised to wipe them out in exchange for being told the secret of Mysticism! The Sumerians happily agreed and we got yet another bit wiser than before...
The barbarians are likely to remain our biggest security concern for hundreds of years... MercG, returning from his trip to the Eastern coast, spotted another wild man moving to a mountain at the spring of the Eastfork River. Being heavily armed, MercG is unlikely to engage immediately in the mountainous terrain, probably just ignoring the barbarian for the moment, possibly attacking in case the warrior should move towards Farmerville.
Conan and Angus kept exploring, but have had nothing really new to report... Angus may be able to look as far to the West as possible next turn, but hardly anyone expects really breaking news... the excitement over the landbridge to Legos Minor has worn off significantly since its discovery in 2190BC...

Leopold has finished irrigating the plains SE of Panama, allowing the city population to better feed themselves. It is quite likely that having less to fear about how to feed their children, folks over there will be making more of them now! Having taken care of the most pressing needs of Panama, Leopold started building a road connecting the city to our capital.

1725 BC - Dead Barbarian, Good Barbarian
Perhaps the only events worth mentioning for 1725BC were two engagements with barbarians. MercG, despite his heavy armor, unsuited for fighting in high altitudes, decided to take the initiative and attacked a barbarian apparently heading for the Farmerville area. Likewise, Gaul made sure that the friendly mystic Sumerians on the southern coast would have to fear having their chicken and/or women threatened and/or stolen no more, collecting nice 25 gold after his "police action" ended. We expect even more skirmishes with barbarians in the near future, as another warrior appeared SE of the victorious MercG... besides, Conan keeps looking for a barbarian camp believed to be located somewhere south of Farmerville.

Our fellow citizens in Panama are now taking full advantage of the new irrigation system built recently in the nearby riverbank plains area by Leopold, making the growth of their city speed up. Leopold has also built a road connecting that area to Panama, so that the crops grown in the irrigated plains are easier to deliver to the city.

1675 BC - Legopolis Granary Opens!
Perhaps the most notable event of this year has been the ceremonial opening of the Legopolis Granary. Its use shall stabilize the growth of our capital, helping us to quicker colonize our landmass. The only drawback of this useful building is that running it costs 1 gold every year. With all our income being invested into the research, we have to fund the granary from our treasury.
Fortunately, our treasury is enjoying its happy millenium! Due to the recent extensive barbarian hunting, we are now almost at 100 gold and next turn, Conan is expected to cash 25 more from the barbarians camping in the desert South of Farmerville. Thanks to the extra income from barbarians, we will be able to run at a deficit budget for quite some time.
Another interesting news came from Angus, now almost forgotten in his efforts to explore Legos Minor. Surprisingly, Legos Minor seems to extend further northwards than previously anticipated, with some pretty fine land available in the valleys between high mountains. Who knows, maybe we will settle even this part of our landmass eventually...

1575 BC - Advancing in Technology
The year of 1575 BC could very well be nicknamed The Year of Science and Research. Not only our own research project, Map Making, was completed... Gaul, finally getting in contact with a lesser tribe in the southern part of Legos Major, made such a great impression on the Numidian villagers that they taught him their special piece of knowledge - Philosophy! Vivat Gaul!

We are almost finished charting Legos Major. Gaul shall be able to reveal the very last bit of the yet unexplored territory in the heart of our southlands in 1550BC, making good use of the hill North of the Numidian village site. MercG finally arrived at the shore and will be checking our eastern seas for any signs of distant lands. And Marky Merc was ordered to leave his fortified post near Angus' Neck and set out to check for the same on our western shore.
At the same time, Angus has reported locating a barbarian camp on Legos Minor. Undoubtedly, it is not the only one there, as the place is just swarming with wild warriors. Gaul successfully defended against one of them, dispatching the daring attacker to the realms of dead, causing his fellows roaming in the area to withdraw.

The discovery of Map Making is crucial to the future of our glorious empire, allowing us to start exploring the seas separating our lands from other civilizations, hopefully finding them and establishing friendly contacts. Being still left alone in this world, we are - to a degree - keeping pace in technology only thanks to the generous support of our lesser tribes. However, staying moderately advanced is definitely not our long-term goal. In an anticipation of the need to bolster our research and enhance our collective knowledge, Legos the Wise presented a bold plan.
The plan is based around a great wonder that should be built in the city of Jackson. Using the estates and foundations of what was recently planned to become the new palace of Legos the Wise, we shall try to set up The Great Library there, making it easier for knowledge from faraway places of our world to come to us. If nothing goes wrong, The Great Library should be opening in the year of 710 BC.

1550 BC - Off To The Sea!
This year saw some remarkable events happening... most notably our first galley setting off to the sea, bound to circumnavigate our continent, checking for any shallow waters allowing to make contacts with other civilizations, so far hidden somewhere across the ocean. Actually, thanks to MercG, who spotted the first signs of overseas eastern lands on the previous turn and now confirmed his observations, we know that there is at least one such a "ford", East of our easternmost shore.
Gaul, that overlooked the very last bit of Legos Major interior shortly after parting with the friendly Numidians, shall now head for our easternmost shore, being assigned to a sentry duty there... even if we do not expect any visitors from across the water, we shall better make sure we do not miss anyone...
Angus, in the far North of Legos Minor, has approached a mob of barbarians camping on the slopes of a high mountain, intending to wipe them out on the next turn. Good luck, Angus! After taking care of this barbarian problem and having a look across the Northern Sea, Angus is bound to turn back to the South, more or less following the Northeastern shore of Legos Minor.

After discovering the secret of Map Making, our wise men went on to study the properties of iron, hoping to learn the secrets of Iron Working, possibly locating deposits of the iron ore throughout our landmass.
