OK, to keep things tidy, I have created a chronicle thread here. Hopefully it will become topped at a later date... Currently, Jack has no possibility of topping threads, so if you want to have a convenient access to the chronicle thread, bookmark it. I will not bump it, as the thread would soon become cluttered with bumps...
As I asked to consider the main chronicle thread kind of "read-only" (to keep it easy to follow), I am hereby creating a thread to be used for comments, suggestions, and bug reports.
Do you wish to have some more screenshots posted? More statistics listed? Ask me here, please.

I know, I just wanted to know exactly what turn/year are we in. Well, right now I know it, but for the future. Sometimes when I'm offline for a while, I don't even know what has happened in the meantime: how many turns have we played, if any, what did we do in that turn/turns, etc I find it logical to look for events in the Chronicle thread. This was exactly my post's logic. |
OK, I have finally updated the Chronicle thread. Sorry for the delay, guys, there was just too much to do to get to it earlier. Nothing extraordinary happened, but if someone feels like closely reviewing the Demographics screens, tell us if you find out anything interesting...

Ah, yes, the style... it's not very entertaining, I fear, but I am not very good at the roleplaying stuff, ya know. But I do my best to stick to the theme, at least, trying to balance out the chronicle-like style with factual information.
Just a sidenote for everone: I will not be able to host all the pictures and savegames on our corporate server forever, the space is limited, even if not severely. At some time, I will have to start deleting old stuff. If onyone feels like keeping the full archive, regularly download the screenshots and savegames and store them locally on your machine.

Nice work, Vondrack! Any chance that the city picture can be bigger though? |
Sure.
Just click the picture.
How smart of me, eh? j/k
I had a problem with the 1024x768 fullscreen pictures. If left at 100%, they were too big to fit in the window. If scaled down to 50%, they were difficult to read (that is what you see there). Anything between produced ugly pictures, as the scaling distorted texts. So I decided to display the small "thumbnail" pictures and have them clickable, with the full screenshot available either for download or review in a separate window.
If the link does not work or brings up an incorrect picture, just let me know and i will promptly fix it.

As for space, in less than 2 weeks, I will be getting my new computer which will have a 200GB Hard Drive so I should have lots of space if you want me to store the old information. |
Well, I was just letting everyone know the files will not be available online forever. But I will keep everything archived on my local system (having something close to 600 GB of storage space, it should not be a problem ).

It might be an idea for an assistant or two to be added later in the game to help post the info on the various cities that we will have (hopefully we will have LOTS of cities to post information for ). |
Yes, later on, I will probably need someone to help me. OTOH, the game will probably proceed much slower then, so I will have more time to work on chronicle entries.
Also, one of the things that somewhat slow down the chronicle updates is that I am too busy to install and set up a SSL ftp connection that would let me upload the stuff onto the server via my cable connection (must use dial-up because of some IP/security stuff so far). It is one of my top priorities however. Once it is set up, I will be able to update the chonicle almost instantly.

Oops, that's right.... hehe
Taking some guesses here on what of the lands into the shroud might be showing.
Looks to be almost all jungle to the southwest, south and southeast of us, except perhaps for what looks to be a hill one square southwest of the most western square we see (I think we need to develop a system for labelling our city squares and the map sigh).
Directly north of the most northern square might be a grassland or flood plain as there is specks of green in that desert square.
The desert seems to continue to the northeast, the hills continue to the northwest and northeast, but it also seems that the square northeast of the grassland shield is grassland as well. Can't tell whether the northwestern river goes into a forest square or a jungle one.
Considering that our cultural borders will expand in 6 turns, it might be an idea to send our 1st warrior along the compass lines, either directly north or directly east as the shroud won't be uncovered in those directions as much.
Do outposts reveal the shroud as well as the fog ? If so, another possible (crazy) idea would be to create another worker unit early and use it to build an outpost on the gold hill, which might uncover the shroud for 4 squares into the southwest and southeast - though it wouldn't do much to reveal the other areas.
One area of concern for me is that we are 6th in Manufactured goods, although that might simply be tha the others have mined immediately instead of roading. If so, we will catch up shortly.
Another area of concern is our lack of good 3D squares (that is good food+production+commerce in one square) as most of our squares are 1D initially and 2D with some terraforming - however, there isn't much we can do about that - just something to keep in mind.

Your joke was funny. It's what I call a Dad Joke (not Bad, but Dad...a joke that Dad's commonly say). In any case, I am a Dad (3 small boys) and I thought it was funny. |
No kids yet, but as you can see, I am training ahead... The "joke" was actually a product of rather desperate effort to have something to write into the Chronicle... as I had no idea why Jack fortified instead of leaving Legopolis, I was trying to think up something that would be likely to survive almost any explanation. Putting together a rumour or two seemed to work fine...

Maybe we can schedule a regular turn chat. That way we could discuss simple decisions on the spot. For example, we could schedule a chat every other day (M,W,F, Sun) or even daily. If it is at the same time every week, then Legolanders will know when to tune in. Having other's in on the decisions would help the President or VP greatly.
I propose that a daily scheduled turn chat. The turn can be played at that time. I am at a loss to propose a good time. For me, my shedule is crazy but I'll should be able to attend all Weekday chats. |
This is actually a very good idea. The only problem right now seems to be the chatroom. It keeps behaving rather weird... I plan to play a bit with mIRC and see what can be done to have a truly safe place to gather. But as I have never been using IRC until last Dec 1, this year it will take me a couple of hours to get the grasp of it... Once I am done and the room is set up reliably, I will tell everybody. Daily chats would be very fine, even if not attended by everybody, every day. We could try making logs regularly, making them available through our service website and private forum, so that even members missing them could quickly skim through, making sure they did not miss anything crucial.
For me, times like 2pm-4pm and 9pm-11pm GMT would probably be the very best... but as most of you already know, I'm almost always on (even if doing some RL business), so it would probably be no problem to join at any time.
