4000 BC - The Birth of Legopolis

At the dawn of times, our tribe arrived at a river bank between hills to the North and a jungle to the South. Wasting no time, we founded our first city, which was named Legopolis. Our diligent worker crossed the river, intending to further improve the bonus grassland tile with cattle. Our wise men went busy studying the art of Bronze Working, being generously funded by whatever gold we could put together.

Legopolis promises to become a real production powerhouse due to fertile grasslands, the river flowing through its area, and the Northern ore-rich hills. However, our workers will have to spend quite some time clearing the wild jungle that currently covers a great deal of the city radius.

Our citizens are doing their best to use the full potential of cattle found across the river, just South-West of the city. We have immediately started training a Warrior in Legopolis.

Even though the actual process is not understood by ordinary mortals, our seers were able to approximate our location in the yet unexplored world:

3950 BC - Roading the Cattle Area

To help develop the trade running around our young capital, our worker was ordered to start building a road to the area across the river, where so much cattle had been spotted before. Hopefully, once the cattle area is connected, we may be able to get more income from there.

However, our first years are more of a struggle than happy empire building... everything seems to take forever... While our military tutors are busy training our first Warrior, our scientists focus on the Bronze Working research, sticking to the schedule.

3900 BC - The Cattle Area Connected to Legopolis!

Finally, after one hundred years of hard work, we were able to finish a fine road connecting our capital with the cattle rich area across the river, just SW of Legopolis. In the future, trade shall be easier to conduct in that area, hopefully bringing more profits for our capital.

In 3850 BC, we shall be able to start further improving the cattle area, possibly increasing its shield output.

3850 BC - Bronze Working Research Speeding Up!

Thanks to the increased profits coming from the newly connected cattle area, we were able to provide our scientists with some extra funding, allowing them to proceed more quickly! The new, quite expensive equipment they are now using to carry out their experiments shall help us finish the Bronze Working research hundreds of years earlier than previously estimated.

In order to further improve the cattle area, making the best use of the fine road we have recently finished, our worker started building a mine there. It is a major undertaking, which shall take quite some time to complete, but we believe that once the mine is up and running, the benefits will be worth the efforts spent.

In the meantime, our Warrior is getting much better at handling its axe. It should not take long before he will be able to leave the city, venturing into yet unexplored areas.

Despite anxious expectations of many, our warrior did not set out towards the hills East of Legopolis! A rumour says he was held back to assist the military tutors that are currently initiating another round of military training. In the meantime, news popped up, suggesting the name of our first warrior was - believe it or not - Coward! It was later found out it was just a funny misunderstanding... the actual name of our certainly brave warrior is Howard...

3700 BC - Citizens Celebrate: Luxury Spotted

This year, Howard finally set out to climb the hill east of Legopolis. Standing on the hilltop, he shouted good news back to the people of Legopolis with his mighty voice: further to the east, the jungle trees show clear indications of Dyes to be found there! Everybody celebrates and looks forward to finally wearing colorful clothing, as those bleaky robes have really been shifting out of fashion for the last two hundreds years...

On another note, Howard did confirm what everybody was afraid of. There is not abundance of fertile land to the east, mostly endless jungle... fortunately, the grasslands in the area seem to be extremely suited not only for growing crops, but for production, too.

In the meantime, our worker finished the mine SW of Legopolis. We will certainly make good use of the extra production, being able to forge fine weapons for our future warriors. The worker is heading northwards now, planning to improve the bonus grassland area, first connecting it both to the cattle area and Legopolis with a road.

3650 BC - A Vast Body of Water to the East!

Exploring further northeast, Howard was able to spot a vast body of water on the horizon. The SE hillsteps of the range Howard is following are extraordinarily suitable for exploitation and there are already rumours of some of our citizens wishing to move to that area, mostly because of healthy coastal climate. As Legopolis is slowly becoming a bit crowded, it is quite likely that we will once see settlers moving there.

Our glorious capital houses 30,000 people now and is capable of working three tiles - besides the city one and the strategic cattle area SW of the city, our elders have recently chosen the bonus grassland NW of Legopolis to be developed and used for food and shield production. Our worker is already building a road there, connecting the area to the rest of our... ahem... "road network".

3600 BC - Our First Neighbours: A Lesser Tribe Village Discovered

As Howard pushed on to the northeast, he was able to locate a village of a lesser tribe. It's been only now that our elders revealed what kept Howard in the capital between 3750 and 3700BC. He was secretly developing a secondary skill, Diplomacy, that shall aid him when making contact with other tribes. He is effectively a dual class character: Warrior-Diplomat! Let's hope he did not waste 50 years for nothing... as the village is now his primary objective, he will soon get a chance to prove critics wrong.

While Howard was getting quite far away from Legopolis, our military tutors have finished training our second warrior, Conan (named after a legendary mythical figure). Being able to learn Diplomacy in parallel with improving his combat skills, Conan felt self-assured enough to immediately set out to the hills north of Legopolis, trying to find out how large the desert beyond is. The good news is that it is not that large... actually, it's just a bigger sandbox, really... hopefully just large enough to hide resources, the liking and importance of which we are yet to discover...

With Legopolis having well over 30,000 citizens, we are inevitably approaching the moment, where it will no longer be possible to run the city without some kind of force that will ensure the good advices of our elders will be happily followed. Thus, we are training our third warrior... as he is not supposed to leave the city for quite some while, it was decided to trash his diplomacy lessons, effectively cutting the time needed to train him.

3550 BC - Sea Cows Spotted!

Howard, on his way to the lesser tribe village on the sandy coast, spotted some sea cows on the northeastern edge of the hill range (no surprise our people already refer to this geographical feature as to Howard's Range). Even though we can hardly think of benefitting from the sea cows at the very moment, they may turn out to be extremely important for any city built to the north, beyond or even in the desert, which slowly becomes known as The Sandbox.

Conan The Second Warrior pressed directly westwards this time, trying to get some idea about how the jungle looks like. Well... it looks immense, to say the least... for now, it seems that navigating the Plastico River flowing to the northwest is perhaps the best idea.

Aside from reaching the population of 36,000, Legopolis reports nothing worth mentioning. We are tempted to add that No news is good news...

3500 BC - An Unexpected Research Development!

Everybody previously casting doubts on the diplomacy lessons that kept Howard from early explorations was silenced once forever by his tremendous success this year. After contacting the friendly Patzinal tribe inhabiting the village on the coast, he was able to talk them into organizing a grand feast to celebrate our first contact, showing examples of the special art Patzinals have been practising for centuries - of the Ceremonial Burial. The celebration went extremely well and with Howard showing quite some excitement about the performance, all of the Patzinal tribesmen eventually ceremonially buried themselves in front of his eyes. Not only was Howard able to study the Ceremonial Burial in great detail, but at the same time, the lesser tribe effectively ceased to exist, posing no threat to our future expansion. Let they rest in peace!

Conan crossed the Plastico River to the north, climbing another hill... gossips spread out that he is sort of jealous of Howard's achievements and wishes to have the nortwestern range named after him... but, seriously, most people believe that he has showed pretty little so far to be honoured in this way right now. Anyway... Conan was able to spot the Plastico River delta further to NW. It's quite likely that he will find another suitable city site there - the area is apparently inhabitable, as... trumpet fanfare!... Conan located another village on the hills in the interior! We shall see if he stands up to the test just as our beloved Howard did.

3450 BC - The National Guard Established

Our two brave warriors kept exploring our landmass. Howard ran into some pretty rough area and reported back he will have to excercise his climbing techniques in the mountains on the Northern tip of soon-to-be-our lands. Conan, to his greatest sorrow, was ordered to continue NW to the Plastico River delta. The hut he so eagerly wants to pop shall wait for a short while now.

With Legopolis housing 42,000 people, we were quickly reaching the point, it would no longer be possible to maintain order in the city without some kind of armed force. Thus, The National Guard was established in 3450BC, that will enforce laws and order throughout our grand city.

Our researchers are almost finished with their studies on Bronze Working and are now carrying out many experiments making sure that any weapons we may make from bronze will be reliable and deadly. Due to less funding intensive nature of this research stage, the budget has been reworked a little bit, allowing our still pretty thin treasury to grow, even if just slowly.

3400 BC - New Horizons

Howard the Warrior-Diplomat is apparently developing yet another skill, almost becoming sort of a multiclass character... he is currently improving in mountaneering, aspiring to the unofficial title of The Cliffhanger! The Northern Range appears to be larger than expected...

However, it was Conan who made the more interesting discovery this year. Following the westwards direction, he climbed a hill above the Plastico River and spot two bodies of water divided by a thin strip of land. Even though it is not yet clear, whether this strip is a thin isthmus or just a small peninsula only, most people consider it a pleasant surprise.

Legopolis is now housing 45,000 people and it has been decided to start building a road through the narrow strip of grassland between the Howard's Range and jungle (our worker has already moved to the area SE of Legopolis). The road shall connect our capital with the coastal site that is currently our top candidate for the second city of Legoland.

3350 BC - Legos, Really the Wise

This year may very well be called The Year of the Lightning Fast Research! Not only our own wise men finished their studies on the art of Bronze Working, moving on to Pottery... but Conan, following Howard's example, made a contact with a minor tribe of Cimmerians, learning the invaluable secret of Warrior Code from them! We are now pretty much safe from any early military threats from our potential neighbours, as we are able to build both rock-solid defenders and cheap attackers. Long live our scouting Warriors-Diplomats!

Howard is now totaly immersed in mountaineering... exploring the vast mountain range to the North of our core area. Conan, on the other hand, encouraged by his recent success with Cimmerians, is heading straight to the South, following hills that will undoubtedly bear his name in the near future... From atop of Conan Hills, he should be able to see quite a bit of the vast jungle spreading to the south...

There are 48,000 people living in Legopolis now and we will very soon be able to work yet another tile along the Plastico River. Our worker is already building a road to there. Also, in about 200 years, we should be able to dispatch our settler to the east coast, hoping to found a new city there.

3300 BC - Legopolis Hits 60,000

Our scouting warriors continued in their principal directions. Howard, heading North, finally spotted small sections of the Northern coast of our landmass. Conan, on the other hand, discovered nothing special while moving along the hill range to the South, having jungle to both left and right.

Legopolis, currently the world's greatest city, reached a true milestone in its history. In the year of 3300BC, its 60,000th inhabitant was born! There are so many people living here, that yet another (the third, to be precise) out-of-city tile got worked - the one our Worker currently finishes a road on. The area gives just enough crops to feed our new citizens, while - just like the other Plastico River bank tiles - increasing our annual income by a nice extra piece of gold. With the road network extending to this newly developed area, the trade revenues shall even double!

3250 BC - Lands Beyond the Isthmus!

This year, Howard the Mountaineer became Howard the Hawkeye... standing high upon a rugged cliff, he was able to oversee what is now known to be a strait, spotting the other coast on the north-west horizon! He has thus proven that the narrow landstrip discovered by Conan in 3400BC is actually an isthmus leading to yet unexplored lands...

Conan is pushing his way southwards through the jungle, sticking to the hills that help him see a good deal of his surroundings. Unfortunately, all he was able to see was just endless jungle... now to both sides - inwards to the interior of our landmass and along the western coast.

The newly connected riverbank grassland tile is giving two gold every turn, allowing our wise men spend nine gold on research every turn - Legopolis is truly a city of wisdom! Bit unexpectedly, our Worker started building a mine on this tile, perhaps intending to further increase the production capacity of our capital.

3200 BC - Colonists Almost Ready

This was quite a quiet year, with no exciting news... Howard, after reaching the northernmost tip of our landmass, turned back and following the west coast, heads to the isthmus now. Conan keeps exploring the vast jungle... but aside from spotting another bend of the yet nameless river starting at the Rich Twin Peak, there's nothing really interesting he could report.

In Legopolis, our colonists are finishing their last preparations... soon, they shall leave the capital and - after overcoming obstacles of harsh wilderness - found our second city. Surprisingly, it has not been decided yet, which direction they should wander in... There are two almost equally viable sites on the opposite coasts of the lands we've explored so far.

3150 BC - Bold Colonists Set Out!

What a notable year for our civilization! 850 years from founding Legopolis, a good deal of our folk set out on a journey that shall lead to foundation of our second city on the Northern tip of Howard's Range, just south of the site of the former Patzinal village. Surprisingly, our colonists are not escorted by any armed unit! Let's hope they do not run into anything bad...

While Howard continued heading back to the isthmus, Conan strayed a bit westwards, just enough to be able to tell that further to the West, there is just a small jungle-covered peninsula. Hopefully, as soon as he climbs the nearby mountain up, he will be able to see more of this God forgotten lands.

Legopolis is now struggling to get back into ordinary routine. With so many people leaving for the new city, the city has hardly enough population to work the cattle tile. It'll take some time before our capital reaches its recent grandeur back again.

3100 BC - Another Lesser Tribe Village!

While Howard hastily headed for the isthmus, Conan made another important discovery this turn. After climbing a mountain close to the ocean, he spotted a lesser tribe village in the coastal jungle SW of his current location. The village presents yet another opportunity to gain knowledge, gold, allies, or... or enemies, that's right.

The expedition of colonists from Legopolis moved North, climbing the Howard's Range trying to make sure any potential threat is spotted as early as possible, allowing for a timely response. Just two more turns and they should arrive at the site of our second, so far unnamed city. Everybody's crossing the fingers for them!

Our worker finished mining the riverbank tile southeast of Legopolis and moved eastwards, to continue building a road connecting the area of our capital to the second city site. With Legopolis being underpopulated and having basically no problem with maintaining order, the Legopolis National Guard sort of idled... rumors said it would be sent to explore the jungle area beyond the Twin Peaks, south and southeast of Legopolis.

Our military tutors in Legopolis now focus their efforts on training a brand new type of armed unit - a Numidian Mercenary, which is as strong as Archers on the offense and umatched on the defense. Once trained, this extraordinary unit, unique to Legoland, shall make the capital completely secure from any outside threats.

And, to make the report on our empire complete, our wise men are getting pretty close to discovering the art of Pottery.

3050 BC - Playing It Safe

Although it may seem to some that nothing important happened in the year of 3050 BC, the opposite is true. Thanks to our seers, we have been able to determine the whereabouts of two other friendly civilizations - both of them seem to be separated from us by a vast body of water. Who we are to meet across the isthmus remains a mystery.

Security became the top priority of the Legoland Empire. Besides continuing explorations, we had to make sure that our colonists, approaching their destination, would not be ambushed by barbarians, that the isthmus would be sealed ASAP to prevent outsiders from entering our lands, and that Legopolis remains at least lightly defended. To accomplish this, Howard was diverted towards the designated site of our second city, Angus (formerly recognized as the Legopolis National Guard) set out to the isthmus, and the military tutors in Legopolis temporarily abandoned the demanding and lengthy Mercenary training program in favor of quickly training a new warrior that would become the new garrison of our capital.

Conan, too far away to be able to contribute to the security measures taken, continued southwards, preparing to get in touch with the lesser tribe living in the coastal jungle. The good news coming from him is that he was finally able to spot the end of the giant jungle!

Our worker started working on another part of the road connecting Legopolis to the second city site. And our wise men report they are almost finished with learning the art of Pottery, ready to focus on a new research project, which has recently been set to Writing.

3000 BC - Our Ranks Growing

First of all, everybody clap your hands for our researchers. Once again, they've been able to finish their job exactly as scheduled - we've mastered Pottery!

Our next research goal has been set to Writing. Writing is apparently a concept of extraordinary importance. Once mastered, it should allow us to communicate with other civilizations. Even though we may hope in a later speed-up of the research, currently it looks like our wise men will spend up quite some time on this project.

Second, impressed with our past achievements, a lesser tribe of Gauls instructed one of their best warriors to join our ranks! Even though only a rookie for now, not very likely to survive a real fight, Gaul (as we simply started to call him) shall be very valuable when it comes to exploring the jungle areas. Having grown up in jungle, he knows paths others don't...

Our colonists, covered from distance by Howard, finally made it to their destination. Currently recovering from the journey, they shall found our second city in no time!

Well, the year of 3000BC did not bring only good news. The bad news is that Angus - from an unknown reason - returned back to Legopolis... delaying the moment we will control the strategic isthmus... Our Military tutors abandoned the idea of training a warrior and turned back to the Numidian Mercenary training program.

We are running a bit low on cash - the expenses we had with the expedition sent to found our second city drained our treasury a bit, using up all our savings from previous years - we are back at 10 gold we started with. But once the second city is founded, we shall be able to significantly cut our expenses, getting "Back In Black". Black numbers, that is.

The dawn of the new millenium saw our colonists laying the founding bricks of the second Legoland city, named Jackson. The city has been founded on a hill overseeing a good deal of our northeastern lands - eastern part of The Sandbox to the west, the fertile grasslands to the south and southwest, and a lovely bay right east of the city site. Carefully chosen, the site promises great future for Jackson. The city shall hopefully become a busy, fast-growing hub of trade and production.

With our colonists settled, Howard turned back and is now heading to the isthmus at full speed. His former sentry assignment has been partially taken over by Angus, ordered to go to and fortify atop the Poor Twin, where he will be able to watch over our Worker and the road leading from Legopolis to Jackson. Quite unexpectedly, Angus determined that the Dyes previously known to be found in the eastern jungle, are much more plentiful!

Conan, after splitting from Gaul, turned eastwards, his target being a high peak arising from the thick jungle near the springs of a jungle river. After climbing up, Conan should be able see quite far. In the meantime, Gaul, encouraged by the tales of bravery Conan told him, set out to climb upon a holy mountain of Gauls, Mt. Cernunnos. From atop the peak, a truly splendid view opened before his eyes - fertile green lowlands, so suitable for growing crops, forests full of game, hills promising deposits of gold... a true Gaulish paradise!

Yet another part of our monstrous project, a road connecting the Legopolis area with our new city, Jackson, has been finished, and our Worker moved NE, keeping up his good work. Few more years and everybody will be able to get from Legopolis to Jackson in no time (as long as hundred years sounds like no time to you, that is...).

Our wise men, much better funded thanks to the growing trade in the Legopolis area and thanks to the fact that our colonists, once settled, not only need no more gold support, but actually contribute a small bit to our treasury, are making good progress with the Writing research.

Briefly put, we seem to be doing just fine! Long live Legos the Wise!

2900 BC - Jungle Rivers Discovered

The year of 2900 BC brought nothing really exciting... the most notable discovery was that of Conan, who, standing atop a high mountain, spotted two jungle rivers joining right in the heart of our landmass. The waterways promise an easy way to haul cargo back and forth. One day, we may actually see flourishing cities in the currently almost unpenetrable area.

Other brave warriors of us merely continued in their general directions: Howard towards the isthmus, Gaul towards the southern coast, and Angus dared to venture a bit southwards into the jungle.

2850 BC - Legoland, The Dye Superpower of the Future

Another not-so-thrilling year passed by, with discoveries of average importance. Angus, pushing his way through the jungle, was able to further precise the information on the Dye deposits in the east coast jungle, increasing former estimates by another quarter. Legoland is destined to become a true dyeing (while certainly not dying!) superpower.

Gaul, currently positioned upon a hill right on the south coast, was able to overview a large body of water to our south - alas, as far as he was able to see, he saw only waves... It seems that the jungle rivers spotted earlier by Conan, flow southwards and create a beautiful delta to the east of Gaul's position. Gaul hopes to have more information about the promising land in the near future.

In the meantime, Howard has almost reached the Plastico River delta, already nearing his destination. Conan currently follows the Westfork River to where it is supposed to flow into the Northfork River (which, BTW, springs at the hillsteps of the Rich Twin), planning to continue towards the east coast.

2800 BC - Tireless Exploration

Even though nothing we could really point at happened in 2800 BC, we did receive some good news from our brave explorers. Howard has almost reached his destination - he plans to cross the Plastico River at its bend in no time, gaining control of the strategic isthmus. Angus arrived at the east coast, discovering a hill that would help increase the production of a city we may one day found in the dye area.

Conan kept following the Southfork River to the confluence with the Northfork River. He reported lush green meadows across the rivers - and shall have more on that area very shortly. Gaul is proving to be a most valuable asset to our empire. In a very little time, he was able to uncover vast areas of the southern part of our landmass. This time, climbing a coastal hill, he discovered an awesome place to found a great city at the Fork River delta. However, he is likely to run into a bit harsher terrain soon, as he spotted sand dunes on his east horizon.

We are just one step from connecting Legopolis to Jackson. Our worker has already moved into position and shall start building the last missing part of the road. The citizens of Jackson decided they would prefer being guarded by a unit of the Numidian Mercenaries, rather that ordinary Archers, even if training such garrison takes a bit longer...

We haven't heard from our researches lately, but it is generally believed that their work on the discovery of Writing progresses just as planned.

2750 BC - Isthmus Sealed!

Howard proudly reports reaching his destination, the isthmus we believe leads to an unknown part of our landmass! Reinforcements are already on their way, as our shiny new Numidian Mercenary left the Legopolis Training Quarters and heads toward the isthmus. The Mercenary shall become the supreme force in that area, letting noone enter our homelands, allowing Howard to venture further accross the isthmus.

This is possible thanks to a close cooperation between our Mercenary and Angus, currently returning from his short exploration tour into the dye area back to Legopolis. Angus should arrive in the capital just in time to take care of the steadily growing number of little security incidents, caused by the simple fact that Legopolis will soon match its formerly highest population.

Our southern forces, composed of Gaul and Conan, keep exploring the lands south of the Big Jungle. Gaul shall venture into a dry coastal region southeast of the Fork River delta, following the southern coastline, while Conan is supposed to complete his exploration of the Southfork and Northfork Rivers confluence. It is quite likely that there is even one more Fork River flowing from the East down there!

After finishing the training of the Numidian Mercenary, Legopolis started preparations for a second expedition that should establish a stronghold in the west, allowing us to control the strategic isthmus, which is now widely known as Conan's Neck. A settler unit should be ready in a couple of years.

And in the meantime, our worker hurries up to finish our grand project of Route 1, a road connecting Legopolis to the area of Jackson.

2710 BC - Beyond the Isthmus

Howard courageously set out to cross the narrow isthmus, hoping to uncover new lands beyond. While moving through the isthmus to the north, he reported seeing misty, unclear shapes on his West horizon. Howard believes there is not just ocean there... had he only been able to sail there... alas, we have no means of travel across water yet... Anyway, even following the isthmus to the North should soon bring priceless information on our neighbouring subcontinent.

While Angus hurries to Legopolis, our Numidian Mercenary marches along the Plastico River to his destination at our next city site. Conan and Gaul continue exploring the South. Especially Conan sent news that made the people of Legoland happy - there is a fertile belt of lush grasslands watered by The Fork Rivers south of the Big Jungle. Gaul, on the other hand, is getting a bit thirsty getting across very dry area of the southwest coast.

2670 BC - Another Lesser Tribe Village!

The headline news of this year was a discovery made by Conan. Exploring the area where the Three Fork Rivers meet, he was able to locate a lesser tribe village on the southern bank of the East Fork River! Being a veteran explorer and skilled negotiatior, Conan will waste no time and contact the villagers very soon.

Howard continues across the isthmus, which turns out to be longer then previously expected. We are still a bit unsure whether there is just a peninsula to the North, or another landmass...

Angus has already reached Route 1 and will be arriving to Legopolis just in time to take care of the growing population problem. Our Numidian Mercenary is steadily nearing the isthmus and Gaul, down in the South, is making his way through a desert coast... on a rather humorous note, he reported "...never seeing beaches extend that deep.".

Both our cities are growing fine and will be able to work yet another tile from the next turn on, speeding up our research and unit training.

2630 BC - A Sumerian Settler Joining Our Cause!

After years of rather tedious, unexciting exploration, something of tremendous importance happened. Thanks to Conan, our veteran warrior-diplomat explorer, we have recently learned about a lesser tribe village located in The Fork Rivers area. Conan, skilled in telling tales depicting our empire in grandeur unheard of, impressed the Sumerians so much that they readily agreed to join our empire! After packing their modest property, they are ready to follow Conan wherever he tells them. Conan plans to found a city just SE of the former village site.

Even if our other warriors were not able to report deeds of that importance, even their messages caught quite some attention. Howard pushes northwards, still a bit uncertain if he is nearing a rather big peninsula or an opening of another landmass. Angus returned to Legopolis just in time to retake his former assignment as the Legopolis National Guard. And Gaul is spending his third turn in the desert... fortunately, he reported seeing some hills on his south horizon, which is great both for him (as he will be able to get out of the hostile terrain) and us (as we are happy to learn there is more land to our south).

Our Merc, being ordered to slightly adjust his route, is currently located on plains by the bend of Plastico River, planning to climb the hill SW of him.

Both our cities are happily growing, working more tiles now. Legopolis houses 60,000 people and Jackson 30,000 more!

And thanks to the recent population increase, that brought in some extra cash, our wise men now believe to be able to finish their research on Writing ahead of the original schedule!
