Now, the first matter for discussion here is the issue of new gods being introduced into Iberian society. Several new gods seem to be taking root in Iberia, these including 'Artemis', 'Aphrodite', 'Demeter', 'Ares', and 'Poseidon'. as it is well known that there are no such 'gods', only spirits, this is obviously either a delusional cult, which should be stamped out immediately, or else a trick on the part of the evil spirits, in which case it should also be stamped out. If anyone sees or hears any refernce to these 'gods', they should report them here immediately. We will be on the watch for such activity, and anyone caught being involved with this will be punished severely.

Oh holy Tacticus,
I have some problems with some of the Iberian Delight's customers. After having quite a lot of drinks, they seem to be possessed by demons: they move and talk in a chaotic manner and speak foul language. I wouldn't be surprised if that happened to some particular people, but it also happens to the noblest of nobles. For example, this is what Senor Winterius did to me after he had drunk a lot:
quote:
Put that squid down you diry rat!!!
*points axe at Floris neck*
And give me a Sangria. And a pot of warmed up wine! And a p*ss warm chango. And 2 wine fed squids. No I´m not a drunkarldd. Itsh jhusts jis headaxe....
*Slams table*
And you, floris , stop dancing around, and tell yoursh brother to stopit too...
|
Are my alcoholic beverages bewitched? Demonically possessed? And what should I do about it? Disclaimer: I will not stop selling those drinks - they are far too profitable to give up!
Yours faithfully,
Senor Floris Petro Rulio Olstorne

No, no, your most fine beverages are not demoincally possessed in any way, shape, or form (you'd know by now if they were, and not just from their effects on your customers). The strange behaviour of your clients is merely the natural result of heavy drinking, though if it disturbs you you may want to impose some order in the tavern. You should, however, watch your customers carefully when they are drunk; evil spirits may take advantage of this to reach out and possess them. If there are any indications of demonic possession (seeing 'spirits', worshipping heathen gods, etc.) then notify me immediately.

Very respected High Priest,
I was walking on the Hill of the Spirits, to harvest some coloured stones and berries,
to make my colour paintings, when, suddenly, I had a strange vision : coming towards me,
on a white cloud, were some strange and terrific spirits, they spoke to me in a very strange language,
but I understood that they were the main spirits of a so called civilization : The Carthaginians.
And they told to me that, before that, they were the "gods" of another mythical people, The Greeks.
And I saw their names in my mind : Apollo, Artemis, Aphrodite, Poseidon, Zeus...
Now, I've heard that our "brother", Señor jdjdjd, who personally said that he came
from other lands and other tribes, has called up those names among us.
What can I think now ? High Priest, I hate to have suspicions, but now I fear that Señor jdjdjd
could be a traitor, a spy, working for a possibly and still unknown dangerous tribe...

Greetings High Priest. I was hoping that you could provide some guidance for me on a spiritual issue. I would like to know if you could come up with a suitable prayer that our young warriors of Spain could recite to themselves before heading into battle.
Humbly yours,

O Great High Priest,
Is there anything you can say or do to placate the spirit of my poor nephew, especially as his face is so black and green? He was always such a nice boy. When my husband and son died hunting and I was left with no one, he sent word to me that I should come to Madrid and live with him and teach the maidens of Madrid the ways of respectability. I will be so lonely. It will take a long time before I can send word to my great-nephews to come to Madrid to take their uncle’s place.

Don't think so. However, humans have always known the technique of actually putting an object or person under the face of the earth. Though some cultures object to the idea of letting a human succumb to the reaches of hell, and some other cultures do not wish to disturb the inner working of the earth and so refuse to dig someone in it, many cultures have buried and buried and buried countless humans. Ceremonial burial, therefore, is a technology which does not represent the technology of burying; it represents the idea of burying ceremonically. See, at some time one priest or the other came up with the idea of actually create an entire ceremony (be it small or big or medium-sized) around burying a certain deceased individual. "How," he argued, "can we agree to the fact that we simply put our comrade into the earth without saying goodbye properly?" Many cultures eventually adopted his reasoning and started ceremonial burial. I hope I have clarified the situation enough.

Oh High Priest:
I come to you in seek of guidance. Our slaves refuse to work after several hours. I've instructed the managers to use whips, but even this method has proven unsuccesful.
They clame to be tired, but I let them rest one day every moon, so it cannot be posible. They are no doubt lying. Maybe this is the result of some perfid spirit possesion?
Also I've had some problems with my formes assistant. He gave me erroneous informations and at last he has been found dead. I'm afraid the spirits are afraid with me.
Oh please wise señor enlight me with your guidance.

Hmm... this merely increases my suspicion of Senor jdjdjd. We have him under guard outside. I will deal with him after I see to the supplicants here.

I shall consult with the spirits on the best means of invoking their aid and get back to you in a couple of days.

I am confused as to what exactly you wish me to do. Is your nephew deceased?

Slaves, being slaves, are inherently lazy, so I doubt that it has anything to do with demonic possession. As a means of determining this and also of motivating them, I suggest that you put burning torches to their feet if they still refuse to work.
quote: High Priest,
I have presented to the temple many sacrificial offerings. Today, I brought twenty huge cartloads. I have for you prepared the most sumptous meals.
I have only one question for you, sir.
Have the spirits ever not listened to your prayers and not done as you have prayed?
I think not. You are far too holy.
And so, I ask you, please offer up your prayers to the spirits that Thug floats every day of the trials, and that my company does not suffer this burden which has been thrust upon it. I beg of the spirits this.
I offer the High Priest a huge platter of fried squid and onions and steak. Here's a huge jug of wine too. This is in supplication, and friendship.

Your first question first: When I have delivered prayers to the spirits for ymself, never, for I know the limits of what they will grant to me. For others, though I cannot say with certainty, for I do not know what goes on in their souls. I can plead on your behalf, but no more than that.
Now, as to your second question: I shall deliver your request tonight. I am certian that the spirits will look favourably upon you after your many contributions to their faith, but I cannot say what they will do, as you are asking them for their help in killing another. Do not worry though; even if this request is not granted, your offerings will be much appreciated by the spirits, and you will be rewarded with their blessings.

Oh great Priest! Is the trial going to be here?
And also, many people want to see this trial, so I was thinking of selling Squid slices pots to the religious crowd watching as Señor jdjdjd is burnt, uhh, I mean jugded. Of course if your excelency allows and if it is not an offence to the spirits...

Very well, not that I actually have some time, we shall hold the trial of Senor jdjdjd.
* The High Priest snaps his fingers, and Senor jdjdjd is hauled in, surrounded by six heavily muscled guards.
We are here today to examine the charges against one Senor jdjdjd, and the evidence supporting them.
The Charges:
"Blasphemy, heresy, and possibly demonic pacts."
The Evidence:
Several statements from the defendant in which he admits to being a worshipper of foreign gods, including:
quote: Sanctuary! Sanctuary! To the Great Gods of Olympus, please save me from the hands of these mortals and show them the light! |
Which was made within the very walls of the Spirit House,
quote: Please senor, do not bring down the wrath of the goddess Aphrodite, ruler of all lovers and lovemaking places. She has blessed this lovers lane, and I myself have taken the bar wench Senorita Beatriz S. Muybonita, there several times, as we drank abundantly and danced to the music of the night with only Artemis, the goddess of the moon in view.
If only you could know the power of Aphrodite, then you would know that even the War god, Ares, bows to her presence and would gladly bless your move of the training grounds from Lovers Field. |
Made at the Training Ground, and,
quote: I was saying may daily prayers to the great Poseidon near the river, and was drinking several bottles of my sacrificial cactus juice, when I was awoken by a loud noise. I looked across the river from where I was and saw a large man who looked like a bear, I beleive it was Senor Calamari, after having been turned into a bear-man, pursuant to a pact he made with the goddess of the forest, Artemis. Calamari had something large above his head, that looked like a bee hive, but clearly was Thug, who had been turned into a bee-hive-man by the goddess Demeter, in her attempt to thwart Artemis' pact with Calamari. The bee-hive-man, Thug, fell what was to his apparent death. I could not go after him, as suddenly out of no where, many bees were swarming and I had to take cover in a nearby mud puddle, which smelt oddly like bear dung.
This is the truth, as the god Poseidon is my witness. |
At the trial of Senor Hernan de History Guy Calamari.
These statements reveal, without question, that Senor jdjdjd is a worshipper of foreign gods, especially when one considers that he is a self-proclaimed outsider. The onyl issue remaining is that of demonic pacts, but that can wait until later.
The defendant and general populace may now speak.

Ah, I see. Do you still have his body? If you do not, I can still deliver a prayer on his behalf to the spirits, but little more than that. If, however, you can give the body to me for cermonial burial, then we will be able to cast spells to ensure his safe passage into the spirits world. |
Here is the body of my uncle in a wooden box. We put it in there because he doesn’t look so good now. Will that be all right for “ceremonial burial”?

Thank you, Your Eminence. Is there anything that I should do as new head of the Pikesfan family for the ritual? More to the point, is there anything my poor Great-Aunt Esmeralda can do? She is still very distraught and will wear nothing but black. Could you say some wise words to her?
Jordí Pikesfan
[OOC: How old is the High Priest? If he is elderly, it would be nice if there could be in our story. He could be very charmed by the demure respectability of Great-Aunt E., and courtly words could be exchanged and then dinners somewhere, though I don’t know where now that the Calamari family is in trouble, and then, no not the Lover’s Beach but suddenly he realizes as he sees the Despot’s children and grandchildren that being High Priest is a very lonely job and he needs someone to share the rest of his life with, i.e. matrimony, wouldn’t it be romantic? Besides, it would make us seem even more crazy and harmless to the other teams!
Though all this won’t work if Great-Aunt E. is older than the High Priest ]
