Password: 2W4&wuba or Two - WHISKEY - Four - Ampersand - whiskey - uniform - bravo - alpha. Will change periodically.

Are you drunk?

Good job! I already set up my mail program to fetch it, but left the line commented out so far. Will uncomment it after I returned from lunch. Hope I did it right with the "keep" option, maybe we should put a file up to test? What about the screenshot zip?

On a second thought, I wonder if it works. Doesn't POP3 work only if the message is yet tagged as "new"? After the first of us downloaded it, the server probably tags it as "read" and the next POP of another team member will fail... or do I make a mistake here?

No server-side read tag exists on any mail server program that I know of. AFAIK there are only client-side read tags.
Anyway, I'm glad you like it (I can see that by your excess use of emoticons). I'll send the screenshots file as you suggested.

Yikes! My fetchmail delivered it and even kept it on the server! Now let's see if anyone else succeeds to POP3 it.

My home server/router/firewall runs on Debian GNU/Linux. I'm accessing it from work right now with ssh, else I could not have checked it immediately.

Suffering from ads?

Meshelic suggested that we add our Email addresses to the account's webmail address book. I say why not!

Full PM-box? Change here!

Especially for POP3 users, but generally for all, I have a warning. The mail site says, that a free account is allowed to get not more than 1 POP3 call per 10 minutes. That's for all of us together! I already removed the server from my fetchmail configuration, as it polls every 150 seconds, and added it to another mail collecting service, which polls every 2 hours. Still too many, I guess. So we can't use the account to quickly exchange files between all team members, or we will eventually lose it.

Stupid foolish me, I forgot about this completely. I'll lower the frequency that I autocheck it myself.
Anyway, once you check this box via POP3 it is locked for the next 10 minutes (although you can always check it via webmail). If you check it too often it just returns an error. I don't think it'll annoy softhome.net so much that they'll remove our account... at least not without a warning.

Is there a reason to use a special account like this rather than having NYE mail the stuff to a distribution list we're all on? Personally, I'd find it more convenient to have the material delivered to my regular e-mail inbox.

Can anyone recommend a free mailing list service that lets you send attachments and doesn't spam you? Preferably one you had experience with.
Alternatively, if someone could set up a mailing list on his own box, like minordomo or something, it would be best.

At first glance, it looks like Outlook Express has the ability to create and send to groups of people (and I know I've used such functionality in Outlook at work). Is there some reason that or similar functionality in another e-mail client wouldn't work for what we want?

Just set up a distribution list (like you say, Outlook - or Lotus Notes - or probably any email program has that capability). I too would really appreciate getting periodic emails with screenshots and such.

What e-mail programs do NYE and the other people who think they're likely post to the special account use? If some or all of you use an e-mail client that supports groups of recipients (and I've verified that Outlook Express does), how about setting up a mailing list that includes the team members who are interested as well as the team site?

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Hi all,

I just accessed this account using Outlook Express, but I checked the "leave a copy of messages on the server" after I downloaded the first set. I don't know if the messages are still there...if I did delete them, sorry for the inconvenience. There were six messages, including the 3840 turn and the chat with AdmiralPJ.

Edit: The messages still appear to be there, but I'm forced to download them all each time (including the ones I've previously read). Any way to fix this?

Dominae, strange. Outlook is supposed to be able to tell which messages you've already read and not download them again. I've tried it and it works perfectly for me.

Oh, and attention everyone: I forgot to mention that softhome.net deletes old Emails automatically after a while, so don't expect this Email account to serve as some kind of archive and be sure to keep a copy of everything you put on the server.
