We have opened an Embassies forum btw if you would like to set up an embassy we us. Its near the centre of town though so if you see our President drunk and naked wandering the streets on a Friday night we do ask that he be returned quietly and the press NOT informed. Thank you. ;D

There are so many parties in Apolytonian history that I'm honestly not aware of all of them.
The most important thing about party politics around here is that the VAST MAJORITY of people are not members of any political party and elections around here have become very personality-driven rather than party-driven. That said, the parties have at times been relevant for policy discussions, key votes on policy issues, occassionally making the difference in getting someone elected, and other such things.
As for the parties we have NOW:
Democratic Industrialists of Apolyton (DIA). The DIA was formed back in June as a coalition of various builder-style and democratic-leaning parties opposed to the then seemingly dominant "Imperialist Party". The DIA is the longest surviving party, but has not always had very much political strength. It is the party that has traditionally championed builder strategies, been shy about warfare (though not always opposed to it), and the changing of government type to republic and democracy. Most of its original membership is actually still around, but some of them are now lurkers or inactive.
The Hawk Party is something of a descendant of the Imperialist Party (by way of another hawkish party in between), but is more strictly dedicated to being purely hawkish than other "right-wing" parties. Basically, they've promoted the growth and advancement of the nation through war, as many wars as possible as often as is reasonable (taking time to build ourselves up between conflicts). While their membership of dedicated "let's kill everyone" hawks has been small, they've historically done very well at convincing many of the independents to join in voting in favor of several major wars (though some of them the DIA didn't oppose). Most of their major leaders have gone inactive, left, or become lurkers, so the party is (at best) on life support.
The Labor Party was founded just last week by a former leader of the Hawk Party. They now have 6 members, all of whom other than the party founder/leader have never before been in a party here (as far as I know). They basically mix a VERY leftist domestic policy with a seemingly hawkish foreign policy. There are hints that some in the party wouldn't mind a switch to communism, but I'm pretty sure they'd get drowned out in any attempt to get such a measure passed in the Senate
All of the above said, it's still the case that the vast majority of people here are independents. The parties have certainly had an influence on Apolytonian history, but its mostly been from being fairly consistent in policy debates and winning support from independents on policies on a case-by-case basis. It's also the case that any citizen (whether the member of a party or an independent) has an equal ability to post an impressive argument and gather support around any given policy... so parties have none of the media advantages they have in real life... and it's best that way (when population is so small). The parties have been useful for sparking debate and discussion, but haven't been able to monopolize candidacy for office or access to mass media.

Being that i'm one of the only people around here to have seen the enire history of Apolytonian politics I'll clarify and add to what Arnelos said.
The Democratic Industialist Party. Arnelos' description is correct, however he did not mention that the DIA was founded by Timeline with an igoistic intent, just like the Imperialists. Timeline is gone now and Arnelos has done much to revive the party. While the DIA claims to oppose war ideologicly it has never actually formaly oppose a war, which were usually promoted by the Hawks.(As a former Hawk I must say that they were usually push-overs )
The Imperialist were formed by Trip, who used the party for his political benefit (becoming the first President). They generaly acted as a center-right party only supporting beneficial "expansion".
The Hawks were always a collection of like minded individuals with no clear leader, besides mabye Uberkrux. Like Arnelos said the Hawks were a far-right party that suprisingly held more sway in the direction of the game than its party roster would suggest.
An important historical note is that the Hawks and Imperialists formed a coalition, known as the United Front Coalition(funny name ) against the DIA (My idea!). After the first term the coalition died because of election controversy in the Trip(UFC) vs Nnot(DIA) election that ended in a virtual tie! Trip stepped down and largly left the game ending the Imperialist party and the UFC.
Parties experienced their greatest power during the UFC vs. DIA period with most elections being controlled and defined by party machinery and rivialry.
Many smaller parties also existed but never seemed to last longer than a month. Examples
The Anarchist party: opposed to any form of a constitution. Lateer merged with the Imperialists.
The Nationalist party: ultra-right, merged with the Hawk party when it joined the UFC.
No-Name party: it had no name, an early attempt at an independants (mederate) party, later the Independant party and several others, all died.
And some psuedo parties formed with specific goals.
The Apolytonian Racial Elitist: radical group founded by me with the stated goal of purifying the Apolytonian blood line. Aka kill foreigners (computer foreigners).
The Apolytonian Republican Front: stated goal of turning Apolyton into a Republic, followed by the Apolytonian Democratic Front. The Apolytonian Despotic Front formed in reponse.
As Arnoles mentioned the Labor party in the newest addition to Apolytonian history.
Even with the interesting political history of Apolyton most members have and will remian independants.
