	They can't say merry Christmas Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Recently a person where i live got offended when a employee at a grocery store wished him "merry Christmas". The man doesn't celebrate Christmas. Now the store has a rule that emplyees must say "happy Holidays" instead of "merry Christmas".

Do you guys think that is right?

Just some hardline anti-Christmas person. I like to hear "Merry Christmas" when shopping and that's also what I usually say before Christmas to the janitor while shopping before Christmas. Well, I wouldn't impose any such stupid rule that you cannot say "Merry Christmas."

I don't know if it's 'right' or not,, but it's certainly not wrong…
Happy Holidays certainly has a more inclusive tone than merry christmas, and isn't that what love and religion and all those happy things are supposed to be about, anyway? Inclusion?

I think the guy who got offended should take a chill pill and shut the hell up. it's all in good faith and if some dude from the other side of the world said to me "have a happy gufxerlakrfopiz, or whatever, I'd say thank you. Was this actually in Canada? jesus, some people. That the shop starts taking that a$$hole's offence serioulsy shows how scared people are of not being pc enough.

Well I've said merry christmas to plenty of non christians ad non stuck up asses atheist christians (yes) and that was ok and pleasant because it is a good wish not a holy inquisition procedure.

I didn't know they were not "christians" BTW or I had temporarily forgot.

For example: there was a group of people mainly from Europe and America. I asked an aquintance if he was going home for Chstimas completely forgeting at that time that he was from Turkey.

He smiled, I understood my mistake and his reply was: that's ok we have something equivalant and it is also holidays season in Turkey.

So saying merry Christmas enriches your encyclopedic knowledge so there.

Also, Christmas isn't solely a Christian holiday anymore. Some people still celebrate it as such, but it has been so secularized over the years that it's quite simple to treat it as a generic holiday celebration. As such, all the "we need to respect diversity" arguments are bullshit. Christmas is the biggest holiday of the year, religious or secular, and to deny its importance is idiotic.

EXCEPT that Chanuka has nothing to do with love and inclusion, it commemorates a military victory ~ 2,000 years ago and the reclaiming of the temple.....

Im Jewish, and no I think this is ABSURD the guy got fired.....truth be told I DONT like it when people wish me a merry Christmas, HOWEVER I dont like it when they wish me happy holidays either, as then people think Chanuka is about loving people when its not....ANYWAY when people wish me a happy christmas, I say something polite "you too, happy holiday etc..."-not showing my annoyance.


It is NOT rude to wish someone a Merry Christmas(im annoyed, but I dont think the person is doing anything wrong), however if someone is offended by that their just being a PC ()&!#&)#(!.

I think it's not "ok" to say merry christmas to someone you know he's not of that religion.

but if they are agnostics (like myself) or atheists and they piss all over my jubilant christmas spirit because whatever according to them the "birth of christ" signified the commancement of the systematic purge of the dodecatheon followers and the destruction of old temples and their replacement by proto christian onces followed by the oppresive character of the monotheistic religion the yoke of the clergy on the hellenic light the obstructive essence of orthodoxy in the progress and establishment of libertarian traditions and other crap like that, well it gets a bit old.

A quote I heard once, don't know who said it. "A short summary of all Jewish holidays: They tried to kill us, we won, let's eat!"

The only reason Chanuka gets any press in because it happens to coincide with Christmas and the New Year and all those other winter holidays. It's actually not a very important holiday in the Jewish faith.

As far as this goes, I think some people want to be offended by what they hear. I'm an atheist, mostly, but I'm not offended by Merry Christmas. I try to remember the spirit of the holiday, and the fact that two thousand years ago, a great person was born (though it wasn't December 25th). That, we should all be able to appreciate.
