Report: Post-Taliban Warlords Oppress Afghan Women
Tue Dec 17, 6:51 AM ET
By Evelyn Leopold
Many Afghan women are still subject to the same abuse as under the ousted Taliban and in some regions, such as the west of the country, face increasing harassment, a human rights group said on Tuesday.
Many people outside the country believe that Afghan women and girls have had their rights restored," when the Taliban was removed from power a year ago, said Zama Coursen-Neff, co-author of the report, "We Want to Live as Humans."
Khan, the governor of Herat, who has received considerable U.S. financial and military assistance, was named as the most flagrant abuser, inventing a series of draconian measures.
Among them is a religious police and a "youth police" to haul women and girls to hospitals for gynecological examinations for the purpose of "chastity checks."
what century is it ?
and of course the US is giving aid to this Khan.
I'm so fed up with the flapping of government lips
and the nothing that comes out.

Spare us Greek propaganda. |
quote: In a report released today, the Human Rights Watch Women's Rights
Project charges the Turkish government with the forcible
imposition of virginity control examinations on women in police
custody. The report, "A Matter of Power: State Control of Women's
Virginity in Turkey," finds that police force female political
detainees and common criminal suspects to undergo gynecological
examinations for the purpose of determining the status of theirhymens. |

It's a shame, but Afghanistan has to be stabalized before things like human rights can be introduced into the areas currently under the control of the warlords. Hopefully, things will slowly get better, but no one should be expecting overight miracles.

Granted. We really should have left Germany in control of France in light of the consequences of its liberation. |
No, but we shouldn't have put Hindenberg back in charge of Germany either.

Do you know that the Soviet influenced regime before the 1979 war tried to force changes... what happened to it? It went under as civil war broke out, then the Soviets got involved.
You cannot change things like that over night, leftist, you have to do things gradually. Personally, I think Khan should be taken out. However, the practices of Afghan society is not going to change in one day, month, year or even decade. But efforts must be made nonetheless. Now get over it.
A Afghan united military, which is professional and well-equipped can go after those warlords. And believe me they will. 70,000 is the current number proposed, although I think it will go to more like 120,000.
Also I am sick of your one liners.
