PSP 8.10 to be exact (8.01 is quite buggy). Version 9 is out now, but I don't have it. The methods for applying textures are described in the Graphics Workshop thread. Basically, I paint/airbrush/retouch a greyscale version of the subject in layers with a variety of blend modes. I'm a bit vague on PSP 7, but I think it has primitive support for layers, but no scripting.

Fairline, Catfish, or any other graphics master:

I would like some comments please. I've always noticed that in CIv, Japanese uniforms are couloured yellow. However, in all the books, movies, and pictures I've seen, the Japanese uniform appears to be a light khaki (except for the SNLF, which was olive green.) I've tried to recolour some uniforms to this shade, and would like some professional opinions on them. Do the yellow ones i have posted on the previous page look better, or do these brown ones?

Nope, you're about the only bloke that it wasn't directed at. I was more concerned with other people having a go at size-reduction of those planes

I'm using 20% opacity with the paintbrush as a quick and effective way of applying ToT textures as well; far quicker than my old 8-bit process of palette-selecting colours and more intuitive. I put a 'palette' of a light, dark and mid-tone shade of the colour I'm applying on the magenta portion of the unit and then add progressive hi- and lo-lights to the base colour of the unit. repeated clicks on a pixel adds increased lightness or darkness. That was a crap explanation but the method seems to come out OK.

Yeah they look good, but you need to reduce some of the deep shadow on the legs etc IMHO. Yellowish-khaki was the colour for Japanese Army and a pale-ish olive green for the Japanese marines, pretty much as you say.

I thought you may have been referring to some of my comments in the past. In most situations I'd go for smart-size (in 24-bit colour), but for really small-scale changes, such as those two bombers, pixel resize would be more efficient because it doesn't have the anti-aliasing problem.

I got it. It has a disadvantage (when compared with using blend mode layers) of masking the underlying texture as you increase opacity (either by adjusting the opacity setting or by repeated clicking). I guess you're basically redrawing areas that become indistinct. Note, however, that you can change the blend mode of the paint and air brushes individually – that might add another string to your bow.

The B-36 Peacemaker. The first true intercontinental bomber. Modeled after Fairline's B-29. The B-36 had over 20 crewmen, sleeping quarters, a galley, a lavatory, and was about three times the size of the B-29.

Someone even had the bright idea of putting a nuclear reactor on one to see if it could be used to power the engines, but the whole nuclear fallout thing put an end to that.

The paint scheme is the standard aluminum gloss, but the Alaskan bomber force had red wing tips and tail.

Later variants had 4 jet engines attached to the underside of the wings used for takeoff.

@ Curt: Yeah, I guess I'll have a go at it. I'm just going to go at a leisurely pace right now and make sure my units look top notch.

@Typhoon: Those look pretty good too. The Alaskan stripes are a nice touch. As for the Tu-95, well, that one might have to wait till I do a Soviet scenario.

Here is a Tu-95 that I made about six or seven years ago. You can see how dated it is and somewhat rough too by todays standards. You might be able to talk somebody into updateing it for you. I probably won't have time to until this weekend.
