When I lived in Longsight, Manchester there were 3 fatal shootings within the estate I lived in during the year i stayed there. All of them were drive by drug-related shootings and as such did not have to much to do with me, and didn't hit home that much as I would imagine someone being killed in their home would do.
The car that got torched outside my bedroom window was slightly scarier.

Once a person (criminal mastermind, former boxer) was shot when he just came out of the cafeteria at the other side of the street. He was shot from balcony of the building near my building and later the killer escaped through courtyards of buildings, so probably through my courtyard also...
I've heard shot (then I thought it was an explotion) and later scream of a man in a middle of the night. In that night there were many police sirens to be heard. Later I read in the newspaper that this criminal mastermind (Remigijus Daðkevièius was his name) was shot in that cafeteria, which is just near my house. I wasn't however able to watch scene after murder because the street is narrow and my windows are high and also covered by roof...
After few days a police officer was visiting flats near the crime scene and asking what people heard...
