	English as a First Language? Don't Learn Another Language Then. Tired of ads?

There is no point really...anyone who is educated or deals in tourism these days in a country where English isn't the first language will have learnt English themselves.

Any why would you want to someone to anyone uneducated or not concerned with toruism?

The world should speak the same language; if that is English, then so be it.

Liberals will probably try to argue that it is "tradition" or "culture". I argue that different languages are just another division between peoples; and usually it is liberals themselves who try to argue against artificial ways of dividing people.

Instead of learning a language that will be forgotten in two years' time and unnecessary even if remembered, we should be learning subjects like economics or philosophy at school, in order to save us from becoming a nation of people complaining that the price of something is too high or that multinationals are greedy.

Not a troll, an informed opinion.

Completely agree!

That's very handy in, say, restaurants or public places for all non-English speakers. We can gossip about you all we want without you having a clue what we're saying. But everyone will understand what you're saying.

You should learn Latin in school if only just to understand English grammar better. I didn't understand the who/whom distinction until I learned some Latin.

I must disagree. What if you want to ask a person on the street and he/she doesn't know english? Your view is so Anglocentric that I don't think you care about other people. People in a forgien country perfer to speak in thier native language.

Latin is differient, It is the language of science, and
is otherwise a "dead" language.

Latin is far more useful to me than french.

I don't see that as a drawback. It's allowing BT/whoever to draw from cheaper labour sources, thereby making themselves more competitive.

It's no wonder companies are wanting to obtain labour from elsewhere given our militant-of-late trade unions.

And how much are they going to pay those Indian call centre workers? Probably not a great deal. Exploitation, that's what it is. And I don't speak any other languages to a high level, but I am not proud of that fact. And learning more 'philosophy' or 'economics'. Well for you they seemed to have worked the opposite way to broadening your mind. It is people's right to complain when events occur that directly affects their lives. What would you do if you found out you were going to be kicked out of a job because you weren't cheap enough (for example). Come back when you have lived in the real world for a bit.

When multinationals move into an area to obtain cheaper labour, they inevitably raise the wage rate in the host country - I reckon those jobs BT are providing in India are really coveted by employees; they will be far better jobs than they are used to. Better pay, better conditions, shorter working hours.

Find another job? Unemployment is low.

And besides, trade unions tend to cause unemployment, so your argument is a bit silly. Trade unions harm most those they are somehow trying to help.

In my experience this is crap as well. So many jobs these days have nonexistent prospects. How many jobs are there like that I wonder. We have 'low unemployment' but so many of these jobs offer little stability or income, when the cost of living is spiralling out of control. People have a right to complain when they are constantly priced out of the market yet can't do anything to sort out the situation, when they are willing to do a hard days work yet will not be rewarded appropriately for it...

Hmmm, property prices continually climbing above the rate of the increases in wage rates, making it nigh on impossible for people to secure a mortgage. Limited security meaning people can't feasibly make long term investments like this. That is what I mean.

Now you just need to live in the real world a bit more to find out what it is really like...
