	What do the NATIVES call your country? Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

I've noticed for some time that some people call their country a different name than we (Americans) do, the one that comes to mind is Germany = Deustchland (or is that just a nickname?)

Do any other countries have interesting native-names?

well the literal translation is "fatherland", a lot of countires call themselves the "motherland" as a nickname.

UberKrux, in Lithuania it's "tëvynë", so it is fatherland, not motherland as "tëvas" means "father".

Sweden -> Sverige (derived from older form of Svea Rike, Kingdom of the Svear, the traditional ethnic/geographic group centred around lake Mälaren and extending to the west of it)

Hungary -> Magyarország (Country of the Magyars, the nation-defining ethnic group in hungary)

That wasnt a full answer.

There are other names, used by other natives, but someone once claimed that Apolyton is a for-the-whole-family forum so I wont translate them here.

The Native word from which "Canada" derives is "Kanata" or settlement.

The reasons are the usual...

Romania - It has something to do with the fact that it was Roman province.

Everybody call it Romania or Rumania.
Unlike Germany :

In france - Allemagne
In english - Germany
