SW II: Attack of the Clones Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

I saw Attack of the clones last night for the very first time.

Over the weekend I watched the Original Holy Trilogy.

I honestly have to say that Clones is worthy of being included in the series.

I enjoyed it, it had very little Jar-Jar, and the little it did shows that he played a big part in the destruction of the Old Republic.

I wondered for a long time why this movie wasn't called the Clone Wars, but now I understand.

I thought the bad guys had a pretty good plan. More in depth than I expected it to be.

I think Lucas will do even better in Episode 3.

ACK!

Got spare money?

I think GL was screwing up as soon as he removed the Yub-Numb from the ROTJ SE... I didn't care for either prequal.

Well, the Yub-Nub just added to the pain... but it was the fact that Han DIDN'T shoot first was the straw that broke the cammel's back.

That was the reason I actually watched all three movies this weekend, The first time I watched it I missed the fact that Greedo shot first in the updated version.

Can't have Han Solo seem like a murderous thug can we?

I agree! Yub-nub was damn catchy
In regards to Episode II, upon my initial viewing I thought it wasn't even as good as Episode I (which I actually liked, for the most part). Now, after repeated viewings, I can honestly say it's quite a bit better than Episode I and probably around the same level of quality as the originals.

I just finished watching this movie for the first time on DVD about 10 minutes ago (parents rented it).

I found it painful to watch. Absolutely terrible. Contrived dialog, bad plot and storydevelopment, predictable special effects, huge plot holes, disappointing battles.

George Lucas is a pathetic film maker, he's lucky so many people buy into his childish movies. They're aimed for 6 year olds, how can any grown man like this garbage?

I was actually suprised it was as good as it was. After all the talk on here, I thought it would suck and it didn't.

Even the kid playing Anakin got better as the movie progressed.

Tell me some instances.

The biggest and most obvious plot hole I saw was C3PO working at that moisture farm where Luke grew up.

Wouldn't he have remembered it in Star Wars?

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Why is it that Yoda has to walk slowly with a cane the whole time, and the second he needs to use a lightsabre he's doing backflips?

When they're in that robot factory thing, his arm is continually pressed down upon with presses and it doesn't phase him at all. The metal just conveniently moulds around his arm and doesn't hurt him...

And where's the blood when his arm is severed?!

I saw the movie twice in the theaters (hooray for $1.50 movie theaters!), and I enjoyed it quite a bit more the second time because I knew enough to leave halfway through to take a piss and play a quarter's worth of Metal Slug 3 in the theater lobby. When I got back to the movie, voila!, the craptastic romance scenes were over, and the fighting was about to begin. Wutang!

Apparently it was quite similar to Pearl Harbor in regards to the fact that it's much more enjoyable to watch on video, where you can skip the boring parts and get to the 'splosions. (I haven't yet been brave enough to watch Pearl Harbor, despite the fact that my brother keeps assuring me that there's a decent hour's worth of movie in the whole mess, so I cannot personally attest to the validity of this comparison.)

He uses the force to fight, not to walk

AOTC is much better than TPM, but not up to the standards of the first trilogy, in large part due to the craptastic romance scenes and the utter inability of the actor portraying Anakin to... act. However, the craptastic romance scenes do feature young Ms. Portman in some very... attractive clothing.

The action sequences were cool, but Hayden Christiansen couldn't act worth a damn... and there was no chemistry between any of the actors. The only one who acted decent were Ewan and Chris Plummer... everyone else sucked.

So you are saying it was EXACTLY like the first 3 movies .

The funny part is that people believe the first 3 movies were well done! They were crap moviemaking, but we liked them because they were turn-off-brain-watch-cool-lightsaber entertainment! It's just fun to watch. Kinda like old style comics, good v. evil in hokey and cheesy situations.

The cheesiness is built in. I mean, look at the difference in quality between SW and Indiana Jones. Indy had a less cheesy plot and Lucas' direction was great in that series.

Blame him for 1) his bad (human scenes) direction, 2) his bad casting, or 3) writing bad dialogue?

Lucas is the worst director of human beings ever, and only gets worse. This has been true since his early movies. In American Graffiti, the cars have all the real personality and the humans get the crappy dialogue. In THX-1138, the humans don't even have personalities, and Lucas caught a lucky break, since it is impossible for Robert Duvall to utter crappy dialogue.

Empire Strikes Back is pretty decent, but on the whole you are correct.
Still, it's hard to find stuff (other than the Ewoks) in the original trilogy as bad as the "love scenes" in AotC.

E2 was good to me.

I even liked E1.

But E2 is much better.

Close to original.

P.S.
But those romance scens were indeed bad.

But they are important to the plot. We've now seen the roots of Darth Vader appear in Anniken Skywalker with the massacre of the desert creatures. Nowwe know where Luke and Leia came from and we have the factor that turns Skywalker into Vader, his wifes death.

Episode 2 is far better than Episode 1 but what isn't? Episode 1 was appalling.

Episode 5 ( ESB ) > Episode 4 ( ANH ) > Episode 6 ( ROTJ ) > Episode 2 > Episode 1.

Episode 2 was far more actiony which helped but the dialogue was still pretty bad stuff, maybe he needs to farm that bit out to others and keep the whole creative overview thing himself.

Far worse was the love scenes between Padme & Anakin, I'm pretty sure the team weren't trying for the comedy angle but each time they had a scene together the audience when I watched it burst out laughing.

It was just soooooooooo bad.

Finally, when Yoda has to catch the pillar falling with the force he makes a massive deal of it being so heavy whilst keeping it up in time for them to escape. Yet in ROTJ yoda berates Luke for claiming his x-wing is too heavy to lift with the force. d'oh!

By a weird coincidence, I saw the movie for the first time last weekend.

I guess the movie is much more fun to watch on a 15'' TV, on an old VCR, with a couple friends and beers, making fun about the movie.

Hey, thanks you guys! Seeing this thread remeinded me to go out and rent the DVD. Frankly I think the last 2 Star Wars have been much better than the first three, if only because Mark Hamil wsn't in them. The guy who played Luke Skywalker makes Jar-Jar's act look like Sir Lawrence Oliver by comparison!

Wow, this must be the first action movie they do this Exaggeration is the basis of hollywood action scenes, whether it is a carchase scene or fight versus time when trying to defuse a bomb. I'm sure the movie (like all the other hollywood action) has tons of other convenient things in it.
