It does... but I have to admit a large part of it is because of my pc, not the game. I'm running a 4 year old installation of Win98, in between I switched hard drives, graphic cards, and CPUs (!) and installed tons of applications (including games), deinstalling when I ran out of room or got an update. My system is seriously f***ed, and still I'm too lazy to change it. I always postponed it... 'in a few months time I'm going to get a new puut, no need to change anything now'

It doesn have something to do with keeping a browser open, but even without it is no guarantee it remains stable. And, BTW, Civ3 does not has this problem, that one nearly never crashed on me. I figured it was one of those things that PTW should address in a patch, like getting all kind of chat when I'm running in local mode.

Tired of ads?

Dominae, I just ran a (very) quick check of the scenario, and everything seems to be perfect. I'll gladly test it out... tomorrow. Now it's time to go to bed.

BTW: who is testing what: if we could agree on a few things, we could make iy more productive

We need to make more threads, instead of posting everything in one post

Suffering from ads?

I'm testing the option of cranking out Settlers as quickly as possible, with little concern for anything else. Once we figure out which general strategies like this one appear best, we can go ahead and refine our turn by turn tests. Exhaustively testing all possibilites is now intractable.

I agree that we should start some dedicated threads rather than cluttering up the 'Turn' ones. However, we need to coordinate with Sir Ralph and Meshelic, so that they're always up on the current recommendations. We almost went ahead and produced a Settler instead a Granary a few turns back, and only changed this 1 turn before it was too late!

In case anyone misses it, I just started a thread for REXing strategy test discussions. Let's try to take such discussions there instead of cluttering up this thread with them.

Just to reiterate (since there's a good chance I'll be asleep when the turn comes, having been up all night), this turn, let's move one of EotS's laborers from an irrigated fur to the forested fur along the river and let Hurricane use an irrigated fur for a turn. We'll have to do that sooner or later, so it may as well be sooner. Then we'll have to rearrange things next turn so EotS gets its irrigated fur back and Hurricane uses the forested fur for a couple turns to finish its warrior. We can decide what to do from there later based on how the diplomatic situation shapes up.

Summary:

1) Nobody cared about Slash in the discussion. I will move Grog north and if he doesn't discover anything troublesome, Slash will move 9 on the mountain at the coast and next turn 4. If Grog needs assistance, Slash will move 7.

2) Hurricane switches the laborer to a fur forest.

3) Hurricane will make 2 warriors in a row, the same way.

Everybody happy with that? If so, this will be a well prepared and very fast turn, that needs no further discussion.

Sir Ralph, did you not read my post just above yours? You're posting a course of action contrary to what the head of the Economic Scholia is recommending with no explanation of why. What is to be gained by committing to back-to-back warriors now when Hurricane needs to use an irrigated fur sooner or later anyhow (or we waste a nice opportunity) and doing it now gives us more flexibility to defer the decision regarding back-to-back warriors in case diplomatic negotiations remove the pressure for it?

Well.. I cared for him and asked if he could move 9... doesn't matter much, so might as well see what is down there.

Oh, and I agree with Nathan, use the irrigated fur for one turn, if we keep going for the 2 warriors plan it won't matter, if we get a break with Vox we could switch back to growth.

As I already responded to DeepO. I will switch the laborers for one turn now and not in the last turn as I planned. That will be better indeed.

Just so long as we make sure we do it one of the three turns. My inclination is to go ahead and get it taken care of so we don't have to keep it in mind for so long, but when we do it is no big deal one way or the other.

Edit: Criss-crossed with Sir Ralph's message above.

It is indeed better if we do it this turn, as there's still hope we get along with VC. If they withdraw their warriors (and we ours), there's no need to build extra warriors and Hurricane could switch back to barracks without having lost a food.

And once more:

Nathan, I'm not ignoring the calculations of the Schola of Economy. But please understand, that I can't respond to every post here. That would make me post as much as all others together . There are things I read and keep in mind, till they are urgent to be done. The switch to irrigated furs for one turn was an example for this. I didn't see the urgency to do it now, it could be done at any of the next 3 turns with the same result, so I kept it in mind and would have brought it to the schedule when it was due, probably in the last turn of the 4 turn period.

What I lack is access to a topped thread to maintain short and long term plans, similar to NYEs "Current information". Perhaps I should open such a thread and get it topped, so that my intentions for the next few turns would be more transparent and it would be better visible, that they well mirror the discussions made by you all.

Perhaps we should get the current information thread going again, but keep the discussion out of it, and only what is finalized (at least for the moment). plans on cities (what they build, how their workers are located, etc.), research priorities, movement of warriors (in broad sense, like Slash is going to the Neck, Slash shadows Willy, etc.) should be posted there, were these turn threads can take most of the discussion on specific things. This only to get everything sorted out again, because the past week has been very discussing, but I can imagine that Meshelic and others who haven't followed it closely will get lost.

Full PM-box? Change here!

erhm... hold on with the changing of furs to Hurricane for a moment, I'm testing something else. We can build the granary the moment we discover pottery (by changing it in the F1 screen when pottery is discovered), and from then on use the furs to have as first build in EotS a warrior, or something else non pop-consuming. We lose the ability to good production in Hurricane, but I think it would in total be better, with minimal losses. Okay, EotS grows one turn later then with the first plan, but that one turn gives one warrior a lot sooner, and in general seems to be better if you take EotS and Hurricane combined.

More when I'm farther in testing this.

As a Settler/Worker pump, nothing is more important in Eye than growth. An extra Warrior would be nice, but earlier Settlers would be better (if even by a turn). The plan looks fine as is.

Sir Ralph, another request (sorry!): could you post a complete log of all the final actions you make at the end of each turn, including unit movement, Laborer reallocation, slider changes, etc.? nye sometimes forgot to mention where Laborers were assigned and such, which made following along a lot tougher. You've being doing this so far, I just wanted to offer a reminder.

damn... these turns go too fast the past few days. Please check out the thing proposed in the Rex testing thread, basically if we build a warrior in EotS instead of in Hurricane, we are better off using the forest there for 2 turns, using the furs all the other turns. Not that much growth, but we can catch that up later by improving 3 fps fast.

It's an alliance of Lux invicta and Glory of war, who showed up with aircraft carriers and battleships and already landed 100 modern armor near Hurricane.

Just kidding. Grog found Thadeus, fortified on a real, one tile wide isthmus. Our exploration north is blocked and we are in no way able to stop theirs. That is why they taunted us instead of responding politely to our diplomatic request.

Screenshot is on the way.

Hmm, expected something worse...

So, do we declare war now or what !!!

We have to pressure them though in stopping their exploration, we have nothing to gain ATM from not doing so IMHO.
