I played my turn and forwarded the savegame to Hot_Enamel (at the email address he gave in his first post in this thread).

A couple of comments/suggestions:

1) even though Dissident set the difficulty level to Regent, the game is actually on Chieftain (a known bug)

2) accept the default names for the saves, it will help avoid confusion

3) beware of the reload/extra-production bug/cheat: if you save during your turn and then reload, you - and only you - get one extra turn of production/food/research (another known bug)

4) this is just my personal recommendation: out of my experience (playing the PtWDG), a perfectly safe way of loading a PBEM game is:
- relaunch (shut down and restart) Civ3PtW
- load the savegame through Load Game from the Main Menu
- play your turn (no reloading!)
- hit the End Turn button
- save the game accepting the default name
- shut down Civ3

This way, I never corrupted the save, never seen anyone's else map or whatever... Should you need to replay the turn from the beginning, make sure you quit Civ3 and relaunch prior to loading the savegame again.

Sorry if I am repeating things known to everybody...

This should be fine. The only problems I have seen with this is if you are sent the wrong save. It can sometimes offer a view of their capitol city. But if we stay with the default save names hopefully no one sends the wrong save.

And I guess that chieftan bug is still there . I know of no way to correct this.

BetaHound sighs deeply. He is still at work and can't play the game. Evening meeting tonight - won't be home until 8:30 pm est.

Is there nothing we can do about the game level. We got it fixed in the PTW-demo game. Doesn't really matter much when playing with no AI's. Just the content citizens and easy barbarians. Life is good.

actually I've heard that the PTW democracy game level is at chieftan as well. let me check...

how do you check the difficulty level of the game? If I load throught he multiplayer screen it just whows custom for both games.

The PtW demogame is at Chieftain, too. There is no easy way to find out (the level displayed upon loading the savegame is incorrect), but through testing... I have been able to leave three ungarrisoned citizens in Legopolis without the city going into disorder, so the game can't be on Regent or Monarch... Theoretically, it could be Warlord, but I seriously doubt it. I do not think there is anything we can do about the level, but put up with it (that's why I just made sure everybody knows about it, without asking for any actions to be taken).

The first day gone, the first turn complete! Good!

OK, guys, I believe I will quit this game now rather then wait for the English to tear me up into pieces... Look, they barely played their first turn, and they already know (aside from the Alphabet and Pottery they started with):

1) Bronze Working ('cause their bronze pipe has been stolen... well, it could have been an import, but anyway)
2) Masonry ('cause Downing Street 10 is already there)
3) Communism ('cause they have Scotland Yard)
4) Writing + Printing Press ('cause they have newspapers)

Well, I thought I could do something with my Russians, but facing such technological superiority, I am losing faith...
