I continue to find this trend frustrating and interesting. Why is it violence is so accepted and sex is not? I still cannot understand it.

Now I understand why this exists in america for the most part. But Apolyton really isn't america now is it? It was created by people from other countries. Is american culture that pervasive? I have been to Europe, including Greece. I have been to their topless beaches (where else would a guy like me be? ).

Now I'm not complaining about the moderating here, so please do not close this thread. I haven't had any threads locked or deleted, I've been a good boy. I'm just trying to understand this trend, and how it relates to the world as a whole.

Which thread was that Tassadar? I missed it. I have been thinking about this for a few days.

I still like the motto: Make Love, not war. This was a great slogan . I think the hippies in the 60's had a lot of great ideas to get easy lays from women. They were geniuses in their own time. Drugs helped a lot in that regards too

OK I took a look at that thread. Well I'm no family man. But I still say sex is the lesser of two evils to have your children see. I'm sure little junior would rather walk in on their parents having sex than their parents hitting each other. So if we continue to talk about violence in the news, why can't we talk about sex in the news?

The sex issue is very complex in many countries. For example:

In here the Helsinki cable netword refused to show porn on feeless channels on the 1st of jan 2003, pleading on moral issues.
The same network has also pay channels, and they continue showing porn.

So, they are saying, that it is morally wrong to watch free porn, but morally right to watch it as long as you pay for it.

Where's the logic?

Perhaps the thinking was that responcible parents with young children in the home WON'T opt in for porn on the premium channels, and therefore won't have to worry about their children being exposed to that same material on the "free" channels.

I agree with dissident - violence is much, much worse than sex. Sex doesn't kill people, at least not directly. Violence does.

What I find puzzling is that pictures of blown-up israelies and other such things are allowed in here, but red_jon gets banned for posting a picture of a guy where you can see a bit of pubic hair.

Well, we play video games, and video games have tons of blood and gore (even if in Civ, you don't watch directly the genocides you decide). If this was a forum of a porn site (or a site dedicated to some porn game), I guess the mods would ban anyone who dares to post a pic of a blown up Israeli

I think the main issue is that a lot people are completely and utterly desensitised by violence (I don't flinch at the news anymore, unless it involves some particular nasty stuff, Rwanda/Congo usually being a good source of the flinchworthy stories). Most people will never be involved in real violence and as such do not have a real connection/issue with it.

There's a difference, IMO.

Not all violence is acceptable for posting here - you won't see anyone showing stuff off the autopsy photos site, or a series of chainsaw dismemberment scenes.

There is a difference between gratuitous violence, and violence which is unfortunately newsworthy, because war, crime, etc., is an ongoing part of the human condition.

Photos of blown up Israelis or Palestinians really push that limit, but ME threads tend to be the most emotional and strident, and generally when people post those photos, it's to illustrate the reality in human terms, rather than the usual, endless rant about Zionist usurpers or evil Palestinians blah blah blah.

The games featured in ACS all relate to a great degree to conquest and war, and those are common themes in the OT, except that it's the real world, not the game world. T&A shots just don't have a "newsworthy" or anything other than a gratuitous use, and you can find them everywhere, or else exchange links with each other.
