Lagomorphic runes appear, writ in blood. The ppl wait and ponder, "Though these are Hard Times indeed, whatever cruel twist of Fate can it be that rests our future in the hands of a rabbit?"
1140 AD
-Jrabbit the Imperator surveys the kingdom. He sees a profitable (177GP/turn) Republic spread across three continents. Is this right and just? For a Monarchy will produce much-needed shields, and the sage Oedo decrees that 1180 and 1260 are among the upcoming years ripe for change.
The scientists wallow in disuse (10%, 20 turns), yet the ppl seems oddly pleased (30%). -Jrabbit charts a course -- the needed techs are Democracy, Gunpowder, Economics, and Sanitation, plus a trip down the path of Steam Engine - Railroad - Industrialization.
As for the rest of the world, little is known beyond the ancient maps, as no embassies exist. With both the Russians and Babylonians, a state of war exists. With the Spanish, a cease fire. Our reputation is Excellent. Diplomatic relations do not improve after introducing himself to foreign representative.
Idly playing with the distribution of resources, -Jrabbit elects to release some of the tax (30%) burden on the ppl, redeploying needed resources to the research community (60%, 5 turns). Reduced to 10% luxuries, several cities end their celebrations. WLTxD? Not so much...
1160 AD
--Though Hard Done By, we are still the most powerful civ in the world. vikes are #2, followed by Spain, Russia, Babylon, and China.
--Wine shipment delivered in Stick Spit = 62 GP
--Monarchy? Revolt? Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... NO. We stay in Republic!
1180 AD
--Russian horse spotted south of Port Trondheim. and killed, netting a vet crusader.
--whale Woe Gems delivered to Jorvic, netting 396 GP.
--Our caravel spots a Russian caravel, sinks it and all 3 passenger units aboard.
--We use the proceeds to buy some white goods, promote camel-breeding.
--viking cat spotted near Aarhuis; dip screen won't permit tribute request.
1200 AD
--Hard done By wise men discover Invention!
--With choice of Democracy, Economics, Steam Engine (and some unwanted techs), -Jrabbit tanks a bit. Though he loves 'clads and has always wanted to meed Adam Smith, it's DEMOCRACY time!
--Viking cat approaches Aarhus. We parley with Vikes. The declare WAR. They's now got a dead cat.
--Peace with Babylonians.
1220 AD
--Spanish trireme lands elephant, settler on Viking continent.
--Our trade caravel spots the last Viking city, Westness.
--Establish Viking embassy. They are an aggressively expansive Republic with 888 GP, at war with Spain. 9 cities, capital = Trondheim, studying Astronomy.
1240 AD
--Spanish begin Great Library
--Vikes, Russkies secretly ally against us.
--We continue our camel-tickling.
1260 AD
--Stick Spit silk delivered to 2 Whales, nets 90 GP.
--Brutally murder Vike chariot at Little Trondheim.
--vikings, Spanish declare Peace with each other.
--Oedo sends reminder to -- but -Jrabbit ignores him.
1280 AD
--Wise men discover DEMOCRACY!! The Lady beckons...
--Choice of Gunpowder, Economics, Sanitation, Chivalry. Even -Jrabbit knows it's a fool who has a chance to be first to Gunpowder and doesn't grab it!
--Coal shipment form WasZimbabwe to Roskilde nets 215 GP.
--Beads delivered to Tronheim. Even without demand, this yields 208 GP.
--Our vet cruc in Port Trondheim loses to marauding Russian archer on mountain.
--Newfound wealth yields much tickling.
1300 AD
--Vikings complete Astronomy.
--Barbs land on north pole, near Ironlake Valley.
--Camel-tickling continues.
1320 AD
--Disorder in WasZimbabwe.
--Statue Of Freaking Liberty completed in Frozen Vines.

--Parley with Spanish yields WAR.
--Wise men discover GUNPOWDER!
--With Steam Engine and Sanitation available, for some reason, the Lagomorph elects Metallurgy.
--Klondike copper to Westness nets 160 GP.
--Spot Spanish city of Barcelona (1) on Viking land.
--Babs evict our exploring Diplomat, sending him all the way to Woebegone.
--Thumbing his nose at Oedo, -Jrabbit declares Revolution.
1340 AD
--Now, which will it be? Fundy, commie, or... DEMOCRACY!!
--Ppl declare -Jrabbit President.
--Sliders moved to 40 tax, 10 science, 50 luxury in preparation for explosive growth to Many Size Twelve Cities.
--Betting on a NONE, we bribe Spanish settler near Aarhuis for 348 GP. And lose that bet...
--Upset by non-NONE settler, we kill Spanish ellie outside Aarhuis.
While the cute and fuzzy President Bunny would love to personally oversee some city growth prior to instituting a Fundy blitzkrieg, his advisors persuade him to get some sleep and let someone else be Hard Done By for awhile.

And Vet Frigates can escort themselves!
Sorry I went Metllurgy, gang. My plan was to go with Steam Engine and... well, I just mumble mumble mumble...
Anyway, the Vikings (and their three WoWs are ripe for the taking, though they are starting to wall some cities. Once this small task is complete, the world is the mollusk of our choice... |
-Jrabbit,
As the Monk shimmers into solid form in the throne room--or should I note, Oval Office--his disposition is thrown for a loop, or two, by the reality belying the pretty words quoted above. 'A small task', 'confident in success', 'many size twelve cities' to-be...from celebrating in Democracy, but with a new fleet of frigates, and eight cities in revolt from a sloppy revolution. Reading the log, it seems everything went swimmingly up to the last turn. Wish I could play from 1320. Oh, well...
Since you seem to like giving instructions, however cryptic, perhaps you could instruct this poor Monk as to:
1) Democracy
How is this a good choice here?? We can't send any unit to the field without disorder--or massive Lux. There is no infra-structure to grow the "many size twelve cities" you imagine, nor food surpluses, or settlers to irrigate. I can only find a handful of cities that can grow, even for one turn, and that needs a bump in Lux.
You must have had a higher vision than I can engage that led you to Demo rather than Fundy. Please advise and I will happily bow to your Demo path.
2) NON Settlers from bribe
An AI settler two tiles from our city and four from his city, and you 'gambled" on getting a NON??!?? I feel pretty sure you know better. Were you sleepy or drunk, or both?? I hope you are not coming down with something. I'll make this work, but 348 gold pieces would build at least two much-needed aquaducts. That's a very special settler--at least he is not theirs anymore.
3) 8 cities in disorder after revolt
That's a lot of arrows lost because you couldn't be bothered to adjust the city list after going into revolt. MP'ers say they can't risk the time in their game, but that is not an issue here. Perhaps you do not know that after clicking to revolt, you can open the attitude screen and adjust for red city problems. That way, you don't lose anything to disorder and those cities can begin to celebrate a turn earlier. That's a pretty decent reason to handle things, I think.
4) Metallurgy
Getting to Corp and Freights might have been a better trade oriented path, but there's nothing wrong with cannons.
In reading this over it sounds very sarcastic and I don't mean it that way. I just don't get it. Please help me out with your thinking, vision. And BTW, your save was not a save again. It unzips as a zip; but, changing that, after it's been unzipped, to .sav makes it work.

But we are in Demo--at least for now.
You bring up a good point about Leo. How many vets would we lose against 13 upgrades to musket, etc. Looks good to me.
What about Cope's, etc, in 2 whales?? An SSC would surely help our science rate. What do you think??
I'm still considering the board. I may do a few turns in Demo, since we are already here. This will enhance any deliveries and add a few pops. Then I think Fundy, temples, pile up cash; add white goods to prepare for a proper celebrating Demo. If the Vik's are in fact building Walls, then I'd like to take what I can before they complete them.

Bloody Monk --
Let me start by saying that, while neither is a decent excuse, I was very tired by the end of things, and yes, I have a really obnoxious cold. A rare day home from the office today...
Sorry about the dodgy save technique. Thanx for fixing.
As for the poorly-run change to Demo, I have no excuse. Figured that you'd make the needed adjustments before changing the year and we'd be home free.
Pretty stupid, I agree. I recall a thought process (if it can be called such) along the lines of "Well, we're in Republic, which is much tougher to run than Demo, and all those extra arrows (no corruption) will be huge for us. So this should be easy. Besides, we have SOL, so the next player will just do as he pleases anyway."
In reality, all I was trying to do was get us the SOL so we'd be free to trash the Vikings. Yeah, that means Fundy (the reason we acquired several temples). But I hit Demo based on the need to grow.
BTW, Theology appeared in the last 2 tech choice screens, so we're still 2 techs away from it as an option.
And yeah, it was the cannons that swayed me to Metallurgy. (Not my normal choice.)
Did I think it through the gov't change? Absolutely not. If I had it to do all over, I'd have just left us in Repub for you to work your magic on.
Now it's your job to fix it, my place to apologize.
C'est la joie de la Succession...
Humbly yours,
The Bad Bunny

I've looked and looked trying to make Democracy work now, but I don't think it will be as good as Fundy. The lack of infra-structure and food means only six cities can celebrate even one turn, and that requires 60% Lux. With Fundamentalism, 34 shields get freed up from support and cash will increase.
1--Change to Fundy Gov't
2--My view is that the Vikings must die
Their big land mass should be ours, and sooner is better if they are building walls.
3--Big push to build Leo's...many white goods changed to camels
Later, aim for JSBach enabling Demo if desired.
4--Use Fundy cash, deliveries, and plunder to rush temples, harbors, and aquaducts so a growing Democracy will be possible if desired
5--Go after the Russians and Spanish and look to trade with the Babs and Chin later.
6--Have fun and hope for the best
