My opinion of working justice system:
Since long terms in prison ussually doesn't helps to rehabilitate (people after for example 10 years doesn't has wehere to go back ussually, firms doesn't likes to give jobs to former inmates, ussually they also starts using drugs and has friends from prison, etc., so they starts to steal again), these should be stopped, as well as life sentences. Instead, capital punishment should be legalised. It should be used much more widely than ussually. Firstly, it would be used for most of bigger crimes (not for hooliganism or speeding obviously) if they are repeated for certain amount of times. Since if person for example steals cars, than sits in jail, after he gets out steals again, again gets in jail and later does the ame again, it proves that the person isn't rehabilitable. That means, he should completely be removed from society since he does bad things. He could get life sentence, but it would cost the state money then, which some states doesn't has. Thus capital sentence would be applied for big crimes (murders, mass murders, terror acts (if someone is killed), irreparably damaging someones health, drugdealing, drugusing, etc.) and for smaller crimes (but not very small) if they are repeated for certain amount of times. Sentences in jail would be limited to 1 year, since as I said before longer sentences does not works. However, conditions in jail would be much worse than they are now. For small criminal acts, like hooliganism, etc. very small sentences in jail would be given (beyond one week). Fines would remain for financial crimes (since most of street thugs ussually can't pay fine, while ones who commits financial crimes can). Tortuing wouldn't and couldn't be used to get information, however some forms of it could be used in jails as part of punishment (only such forms of tortuing would be used wich can't damage health later). Executions would be done by shooting people (since in my opinion poisoning and electric chair are inhumane). All executions would be done in secred places, however government would reserve right to do a public execution (shooting or hanging) for a very huge crimes, when people themselves requires that, but it wouldn't be widely practicised (examples of such crimes could include if someone raped and killed 100 kids of years 4-8, also if someone attempted to destabilise government/democracy or if someone in high position in government taken big bribe to make a deal which is very bad for country itself (makes country loose big amounts of money or other values) and war crimes). Since corruption would be considered a big crime, probably over the time it would tend to decrease - corruption is one of the major things which stops country from advancing. All people (from all sexual, ethnical, racial groups) would be equal against laws. If someone commited offence regarding to ethnicity/sex/sexual orientation/race (for example, straight man beaten a gay), for the first time he wouldn't be punished more as the orientation difference's could be just a coincidence. However if such attacks would continue, the criminal would get bigger sentence than it normally would for that crime.
If you don't agree with meabout this justice system, please write about your ideal laws and vote in the poll...

It means no such thing if the prison system does not offer a means of rehabilitating prisoners.

It is immoral to kill someone regardless, IMO, but is hideously immoral to kill someone who has not actually killed anyone themselves. Executions for non-violent crimes would be an abomination.
You're neglecting the point of why that long-term prison sentences don't rehabilitate many criminals, and it's because prisons are rarely designed to offer real means of rehabilitation.
Your position on torture is also immoral. To torture people out of punishment rather than necessity (such as acquiring information) is appalling. What possible purpose would it serve? Do you think it's really going to solve anything to allow senseless torture?

I didn't voted for public works (community service) because it takes jobs from workforce. As for helping old people, it wouldn't be good since criminals could just steal things from incapable to defend old people.
Boris Godunov... Drugdealer although doesn't kills himself, drugs kills a lot of people (and also forces them to steal, etc.) and they should be erradicated, thus we should apply maximum punishments for drugdealers.
What means of rehabilitation you'd offer in prisons yourself? Especially for drug users... Much of them doesn't wants or has ability to step out of drugs themselves...
Tortuing (of types which couldn't damage body or leave traces) in my opinion would work in certain cases. Remember, punishment has to be bad for punished person. Tortue would work for either crimes commited already in jail or "small" violent crimes, like beating someone up (not very severely). I think some tortue (like hour or two) would be worse and probably make the punished person more to think than few days in jail...

I think if it was done because of mental disorder it should be treated even more harshly (capital sentence) since such people 100% wouldn't be able to rehabilitate...

light corporal punishment (ex. 10 lashings for breaking and entering) I know this is controversial, but it is my belief, that if one is punished in this way, he WILL learn his lesson. However, it would be so opposed do to fears of it being abused or being cruel and unsual, that I probably wont ever even bother to support it if such a system is proposed.
capital punishment and . The idea is good, but corruption, racism, etc has created misuse in the past (making it bad).
community service The arguements that are against it for the sake that it takes jobs away, maybe in other countries, but not really in the US. Community service is generally very menial labor that few if any otehrs would do, such as picking up garbage along public streets and in parks (just examples). It is for the communities benifits, adn it is the least criminals can do to give back after taking so, so much...
I also think prisoners should farm and raise a lot of their own food too, or do somethn to pay for their meals )at least partially). I dont like it how some of society's worst get all meals payed for, while all us good citizens have to work to put food on the table.
Imprisonment mixed feelings. Some people can be rehibilitated in this environment, yet it proves just to be a forum for crroks to make connections and learn new ideas for others. Its also really expensive. But for now, I suppose its the best we can do as far as making everyone happy.
Fines absolutely. The one thing keeping me from breaking the speed limit everytime i drive...

Now, what have I chosen?
All kinds of sentences, from short sentences to being locked away for your life.
Also those kinds of torturing which donīt leave any signs, fines and even public display on the mast of shame.
I didnīt choose all kinds of torturing which leave marks on your body and Amputations, Capital Punishments, Raping and leaving the person to the mob.
Although it sounds justified in certain cases, when someone for example raped me or attacked me and thereby cut one of my limbs away to say "Eye for an eye" and cut the same limb away from the other person or for example punish him by forcing him to become a prostitue if he raped someone, there is always the danger that you sometimes punish innocent persons and therefore breaking a person who has never done anyone any harm.

Kramerman, yes, I feel the same about tortues/lashings also.
Proteus_MST - I am not sure what situation is in other states about costs and durations of the trials for capital punishments, but in Lithuania when such punishments were legal it was no longer and no more expensive than any other courts. Just if person was proven guilty on such crime on which capital sentence applies he was executed (he had right to ask president for help but in most cases he refused). Life sentence is now considered equal to former capital sentences (so people who formerly got capital sentence but weren't executed because of abolishment of capital sentences, now has life sentences), thus triel time or cost doesn't differs.
Kramerman, probably public works are good in USA but in Lithuania BTW unemployment is over 10% and many people has no jobs at all and they are happy if they gets any job, including collecting trash for minimum wage. Although for prisoners state doesn't has to pay wages thus they would be cheaper workforce, I think it is better to employ willing to work people and give them some money...

Innocents can always be sentenced and it is not a possibility to get away from that by smalling punishments...
