Please don't, because it confuses the heck out of people: on the Web, URL's are indicated by an underline. You can still use boldface, italics, or capital letters to emphasis.

I would have thought that an emperor could tell the difference between an underline and a link . In any case, I refuse to bow down to your demands. I like underlines better than bold and will continue to (occasionally) use them.

Some other source recommends italics for book names and "quotes" for articles.

The MLA is the definitive source for scholarly work on literature-related subjects. The APA style is preferred by social scientists. Real scientists use any style they feel like.

Bah... I chose a single colour for all text and a single colour for all links a long time ago. Do not rant about how a website wants to present information to you - it only supplies the information and a suggestion to your browser on what it should look like. It's your browser, and by extension you, who actually chooses how the information is presented. That's how the world wide web was designed, and that's the Right Way.

Nope, those are not suggestions, those are instructions. Just because you can override them doesn't mean they are not instructions. Saying HTML tags are suggestions is just too silly.

Allright, it is silly . But the point is that whatever you call them, they can be overridden. And overriding a couple of instructions given in HTML tags is a lot easier and takes a lot less time than *****ing about them on a forum.
