We cannot win a war against Austria. There is simply no point wasting the early game building offensive units when we need to get a tech lead and a solid empire.
After ensuring our defenses are secure, I will set up exploratory patrols to get to as many goodie huts as possible, meet the other civs, and trade techs.

Should we need to go to war, I assure you I am capable of mounting a campaign, but as a member of the APP, peacing out and keeping donkeys will be a main priority.

If you want a catchy campaign slogan, then I'm a bit stuck. How about "Less swords, more telescopes" YEAH!

I'm not, but I'll lobby for it, and it can't happen at all if we don't get out there and meet some AIs. And that won't happen if we go to war.

Well I think that we must start building our military now! We can win a war with Austria but only if we start turning out warriors from our soon to be 2 cities now.

I'm in no way suggesting we declare war now but only when we have enough units to invade.

Taking enemy cities early on is essential IMO as the time it currently takes us to build a single settler is ridiculus and leaves us exposed whilst doing so. Not to mention the fact that other civs expand far quicker than we do so it won't long before there is nowhere to settle.

We not only need units to attack but also defend ourselves. We are next to two powerful civs and the barbs are coming so we need units to scout out, look for goodie huts and defend. Then once we have enough, attack Austria.

Seems IW would be an MoD who doesn't believe in building any units.... even for Defense.

So far this term I've been selected as Delagate for the MoD job and then as temporary minister. I've acted as MoD for two turnchats and wish for the chance to be a fully elected MoD for the remainder of this term!

As I said when I ran against Maq for the position, our current policy should be "To secure peace is to prepare for War!"

thats a good opint indeed, AGAINST your warmonegering policy. we have to find good places for our cities, as long as they are avaiable, so WE can decide the shape of our nation. once that got impossible it might be necessary to rounden up our borders. but not yet!

No we can't. Or at least, if we do, it'll mean no buildings, no spare resources for anything else, no growth, no science

I have no disagreement there. I stated in my first post, my first act will be to secure our defenses. We need warriors escorting our settler, we need hoplites in cities. We dont have the time to defend and attack.

Start bulding warriors! We need more cities and settlers take take too much time to be buit.
I rather buid 5 warrior (the time to build a settler) and start invading Austria city by city!
