Bill of accusation.
You are accused, during the last 90 days, to have conceived, planned and build a conspiracy aiming to overthrow our Despot Togas. You are also accused to have, during the same period of time, started to recruit, amongst the otherwise most faithful citizens, partisans and followers, which aggravate tremendously your first crime. And you are also accused to have made this conspiracy known to the worst enemies of Spain, which is why you are accused of high treason.
When we open your file kept in the archives of the Watcher Office, the first piece is :
quote:
05-11-2002 00:14
Rome has a very well documented history of civil wars, of which we can take examples
|
This was your program : create the conditions for a civil war. And you are applying it.
It should be enough to explain your crime, but there is something more personal : you envy powerful people; as it appears in this post :
quote:
11-11-2002 02:38
why must anyone feel so powerful, well liked, and experienced?
Cant ya settle for something humble?
|
You are obviously jealous of Togas who is experienced, well liked and powerful.
But you are certainly not alone. And in fact, there is no doubt that when you refer to BOB, he is clearly an accomplice. And a very capable one, since he will help you to rule not only Spain but the whole planet !
quote:
15-11-2002 15:14
link
Bob is winning! BOB IS WINNING!!!
this will be a great day for the entire planet Bob.
[edit] hey, if Bob should win... my avatar would rule [/edit]
|
Would not you be ALSO a dangerous megalomaniac ?
In fact, you never agreed with the despotic government that Spain has chosen :
quote:
07-01-2003 20:17
link
Interesting hypothesis.
but, isnt RP the largest team? and, if RP's government style is DIRECTLY influenced by its in-game selection, then it would be removed from this team-size influence. Otherwise, i think a despotic government type would least apply to a large team, as a democracy might suit it so well.
|
Always perfecting your argument to gain support, you found this one :
quote:
09-01-2003 00:08
link
quote:
What happens if your present ruler, decides to stay in despotism for the remainder of the game???
(that is what desposts do you know!! )
No man can stop a revolution
|
But sometimes seeing the difficulty of your project, out of desperation, you shouted to your enemy:
quote:
19-01-2003 20:55
link
Togas: YOU DIE!
|
Your ambitions is also fed by another motive : cupidity.
quote:
26-01-2003 20:34
link
sounds good
plenty of time to save money
|
So, it is absolutely clear that you are a jealous and cupid megalomaniac on his way to kill the Despot Togas. But what about our enemies knowing the conspiracy ?
On January 28, the leader of Glory of War was heard saying with obvious surprise :
quote:
[21:57] [GhengisFarb> Ninot is free!
|
There can be no other explanation to this remark that the astonishment felt by somebody aware of the plot and its dangers.
On January 28, the date of the assassination of Togas was closing, as we can infer from :
quote:
[21:28] [Ninotsback> where the hell did i leave my TV clicker?
|
It is crystal clear that TV clicker means Togas Vacancy dagger.
Considering all the evidence here above listed, I declare that Ninot has committed the crime of treason against the Despot Togas, and the Crime of high treason against Spain.

First, i would like to defend myself on every quoted point you have brought to light, Mr. Prosecutor.
quote: Rome has a very well documented history of civil wars, of which we can take examples |
When this was said, I was thinking in a mind of how our Christian Civilization, the succesor of Pre-Ancient Rome, could take the historical documentations of their civil wars to prevent them from coming to us should someone suggest it in closed quarters. It is important to know the worlds history, so we may prevent trajedy's from reoccuring.
quote: why must anyone feel so powerful, well liked, and experienced?
Cant ya settle for something humble? |
This remark was made before Togas came to power, and I have been proven wrong thusly. This was before Madrid was founded, and before Togas proved to all that a class system can work! DOWN WITH COMMUNISM!
quote: Bob is winning! BOB IS WINNING!!!
this will be a great day for the entire planet Bob.
[edit] hey, if Bob should win... my avatar would rule [/edit]
|
This was a remark made in a competition, in which Bob was competing. I am a great fan of Bob, who is a world class athlete really. I support him anyways I can, short of betraying Togas and Spain.
quote: but, isnt RP the largest team? and, if RP's government style is DIRECTLY influenced by its in-game selection, then it would be removed from this team-size influence. Otherwise, i think a despotic government type would least apply to a large team, as a democracy might suit it so well. |
This remark holds no proof to it, and half of the words hold no meaning. It is simply an analysis of social trends, and a proud proclamation of how strong our team is in its current state. I dont know what "democracy is". The only government I have heard of, and anyone else I might ask, is generous despotic leadership under the mercyful Togas!
quote: No man can stop a revolution |
I believe this to be true in any case. However, Togas needs not to try and stop a revolution, not one from myself atleast. He is a generous leader whom no one should distrust. However, DAVOUT, are you suggesting a revolution is forming? I havent heard of one. I've been working WITH Togas.
This was a spelling mistake on my part, and quite a humourous one i guess. See, Togas was spouting a new fashion that had been occuring recently, but not often. It was a GREAT shock to see that Togas was wearing DYE'd clothes. It was marvelous shades or Red and Yellow. I was shocked, and had to raise my voice. As its a new commodity thats very hard to get, i was still confused at the spelling/pronounciation
quote: plenty of time to save money |
once again, this was a reference to the dyes. As I heard that a solid supply line of dye's wont be reaching my hometown of Madrid for years to come, i decided to save up so when they do come, i could get the most marvelous brands available.
quote: [21:57] [GhengisFarb> Ninot is free! |
as Togas himself will testify, GoW must have found a source of incense, because GhengisFarb is regularly light headed and high. This is just a random comment.
quote: [21:28] [Ninotsback> where the hell did i leave my TV clicker?
|
you make a false presumption on the definition of a TV clicker.
it is a device I have assembled, which I call the Team Vox clicker. It adds up the ammount of times Lux is suspected of having traded with Vox already. You can buy it in stores now.
Finally, I'd like to say that none of the evidence so far is all out proof that I am guilty of High Treason. With ALOT of guessing, some of it can be contorted into making one believe I am a traitor, but with the same ammount of guessing, we could makeout that Arnelos is a girl. Since we all know Arnelos is very much so a man, it is perposterous to believe that I am a traitor.
if I may, i'd like to state the first witness I'd like to call upon is E_T. He can vouch that I have never contimplated killing Togas, or committing treachery.

In the interest of the case.
As an exemple of the fairness which is an essential and quite new feature in this Court, I want to draw the attention of the accused Ninot on the danger he has created for himself in building a terrible logical trap. Ninot said that with a lot of guessing the evidence brought by the Accuser can be contorted into making one believe he is a traitor. And he adds that with the same amount of guessing we could make out that Arnelos is a girl. The consequence of this reasoning is clear : if Arnelos is a girl Ninot can no longer pretend that he is not a traitor, since he has himself chosen the criteria enabling us to decide this point.
As the question will be solved by the examination of a particular part of a particular individual, many will wonder why Ninot recognizes this considerable importance to the … particular part of particularly Arnelos. There are certainly in the tribe other people interesting in that respect (without depreciating Arnelos ornaments, of course); and why this particular part ? I suppose it is an allegory of life, a current concern for Ninot.
All this induces me to firmly ask the accused that, unless he is able to bring to the Court the absolute proof that Arnelos is not a girl, he will have to give up this line of argument.

*** Suddenly, a TEG-courier arrives with a note and hands it to the bailiff***

" Honorable people of Madrid. I confess...
I placed the smellyfish in the Watcher's bed.
Also, I hired mercenaries to counter his nightly raids.
I cannot tell their names, but Ninot was not part of this.
He just showed up at the wrong time.
I'm leaving town now. Must hurry...

NB: The only thing the court do not know yet, is if the note was written before or after "Peligrosos" death... Can anyone prove the authenticity?

First, allow me to say that I am quite honored that Señor Ninot called me as a witness. I can say truly that he is a man of great character and I could never imagine him plotting against Grand Despot Togas. His loyalty to the Despotship is boundless.
quote:
Rome has a very well documented history of civil wars, of which we can take examples |
Ninot is correct about his explanation. As the saying goes, "Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it." We do not want to repeat failure for Glorious Spain, thus we study the past and learn from our predecessors' mistakes.
quote:
[21:57] [GhengisFarb> Ninot is free! |
Glory of War's leader, GhengisFarb, is known to make random comments. (Also, by using this as evidence, you are saying that you actually trust him [or at least the comments he makes]. )
quote: [21:28] [Ninotsback> where the hell did i leave my TV clicker? |
Señor DAVOUT, your claim that "TV" stands for "Togas Vacancy" is ludicrous. It could, yes. However, there are so many hundreds (thousands?) of combinations to create the acronym "T.V." that it could mean anything from Toilet(a futuristic word for chamberpot) Vacancy clicker to Team Vox clicker, the correct acronym.
Also I can vouch that Arnelos is in fact a male. Just look at him! He looks nothing like a woman!
Lastly, though this strays off the main topic of the thread a little, I must say officially that I was shocked out of my chair at how extensive the Watcher's file on Señor Ninot was. His file even went before we discovered Writing (ooc: IIRC we have that. ). Do citizens have any privacy? Is our every step being recorded? This is all meant for the good of Spain, but a line must be drawn. If the Watcher keeps a Watch on us this encompassing of our verbal communications (and even other teams, in teh example of GhengisFarb ), what is the line at which the Watcher will stop? Someone bringing forth this many contortions of out-of-context quotes to declare treason surely needs to be limited somehow.
Alas, enough going off the topic. I have my rest to attend to, and thus am retiring. (in RL, i.e., i am going to sleep)

People of Spain,
The trial of Ninot is running smoothly, considering that it was intended from the beginning to be a fair trial. Fairness was demonstrated, particularly but not only, in allowing witnesses for the defence, freely chosen by the accused, to testify at their earliest convenience. Their convenience will meet ours on February 5, at 12.00. Then the Accuser will proceed.
As usual in a fair trial, the Great Priest will be requested, before the Court tells its finding, to state whether any or several demons, evil genious or devil may have had any influence on the mind of Ninot when he was committing the crime he is accused of. The nature of the punishment depends heavily on the existence of such an influence.

Review of the testimonies by the Accuser.
Letus Eta Tamali (alias E_T) affirms peremptorily his opinions but does not bring any evidence or arguments to demonstrate they are true.
Thud explains to the Court that two bright minds were necessary to conceive a device recording occurrences up to one, may be two, thus confirming Ninot declarations on the same subject. I am sure that Thud will accept to be immediately isolated in a separate room, where, without contact with Ninot, he put in writing (or drawing) a description of the TV clicker. In case he would not accept this fair experience, the Watcher will try to convince him.
Mrmitchell declares that Ninot is a man of great character. I want to recall that this trial is not about the size of the character of the accused; in fact we are quite convinced that plots, conspiracies and assassination of despots are more often organized and perpetrated by men of great character.
About Ghengis, the evidence has nothing to do with trust; Ghengis described a fact he was observing, and we know for sure that at this time this fact was true: Ninot was free as he had not yet been put under arrest. But it is clear that Ghengis was astonished to see Ninot still free; and this is remarkable because nobody shouts *mrmitchell is free* anytime they meet you.
Just a word about privacy; this is not a trial on some privacy issue or anything as frivolous, this trial is about the safety of the Head of State, the Despot Togas. There is nothing in Spain more important than the safety of Togas, and I would not suggest that you tell the Watcher where a line should be drawn beyond which the safety of Togas would be of no value.
I will therefore recommend that the Court rejects all these testimonies; but as they were obviously made out of friendship, their authors should be authorized to share the fate of Ninot.
As Ninot has not answered to the comments made by the Court regarding his opening argument, I call the witnesses for the accusation :
- Arnelos
- History Guy
- LzPrst
The Accuser is now waiting for the witnesses.

All of those who I called as witnesses, including Arnelos (who has yet to testify) may have been friends, but I am well known throughout Spain, as my family has at one time or another been in interaction with everyone else, my father being first governor of Madrid after all.
There is not a single unbiased opinion of me. On the same grounds as you suggested, I could say any of your three witnesses are biased. Arnelos refused to testify for me, History Guy has been found to falsely acuse me in the past (and thus is not a reliable witness) and I'm sure LzPrst is just another tool of yourself.
I dare say you are on a scapegoat hunt. There is no evidence against me, and under such accusations, the only evidence in my favor is allibies and character witnesses, which I have provided. Perhaps YOU told Ghengis I was under accusation, just to get more evidence against me?
And with such extensive detail on myself, i bet Davout has extensive information on Togas, which he may be forming a plot of assassination from.
In any case, i still hold firm to my innocense, and insist that all my witnesses are legitamate. it is the court that is at fraud.
