Yeah, it's a pretty cool course. It's a nice break from my normal math/physics courseload. Too much reading, though; there are 10 required texts for the class, totalling up to over $200.

Good course load. Don't drop Algebra I. Algebra's more interesting than any other math course you'll be taking. Complex analysis is very useful but extremely boring (like all analysis it's a guaranteed A) The physics courses are getting to be the backbone of your undergrad education.

Analysis is very boring overall. It's too ****ing easy. You just have to be a little clever in constructing your proofs, but once you get the hang of it it's rote.

Oh, I am dropping either Vertebrtes or Differential equations, depends on whether they let me graduate as a Biochemistry BA or they'll force me to stay in the Chemistry BA.

oh and did I say that this would probably mean something around 16 lecture hours for me, and I'll probably be in the Judo team as well.

Both math courses have an insane amount of homework and I want a job this semester, so I can't handle both classes. I hate analysis, but it's a far more useful undergrad course than Algebra I (as far as physics goes). Only the last undergrad Quantum course really needs any Algebra. Plus, I still have a couple years to take the Algebra courses.

Come on. Every semester I had insane amounts of homework. You're even taking a complementary (something I didn't do until my last year).

Algebra I (intro to fields, rings and groups) homework wasn't bad. Algebra III (groups) was horrendous. 10-15 hours a week.

My Diffieq I prof used to stand at the board for a half hour trying to solve a problem (one that he just pulled out of his ass, so it was anything but pretty), and often after attacking the problem he'd just wind up with the exact same formula that he started out with. Then he'd sigh, and say "Well, this has certainly been an exercise in mental masturbation. Time for a smoke break." Things only got worse in Diffieq II -- that prof would often get so sick of trying to solve problems with no analytic solution that he'd end class early just to save his own sanity.

I hate diff eq

Both partial and ordinary, but at least there was some nice theory in ordinary and I was introduced to some transforms that were of use later...

well yah, there were a lot of cauchy theorems

and I do like topology better, and acknowledge that I had a poorer algebra prof (And P-Sylow thereoms were still cool)

I guess Complex was my first hardcore math class (I had had one analysis + a linear alg class before), so maybe I am partial to it for that reason

I had complex analysis prior to having analysis.

And I took algebra I first semester and algebra II concurrently with complex. Alg. II was lin. algebra (but taught like a real algebra class, since we'd already learnt how to use matrices prior to uni)

that's what I kept saying about the algebra

and I ended up only being able to take one

but your department is much larger than mine I am sure, so you will not have troubels with classes not offered every semester

For one class?

And I took about half of average. Now bear in mind that this was in the same semester as PDEs with the worst, most anal teacher I've ever had (with homeworks of 25+ hours)

10 hours/week sounds about right for Algebra and Complex individually. 3 or 4 hours each day doing the hw for these classes alone...
