Actually, I guess we could pull the spearman back now. When our worker was working on the tile he recently chopped, we stationed the spearman to protect against a possible attack by barb a horseman, but now there's nothing a horseman could get to without our getting to him first.

Not sure if this has been discussed somewhere else, but what is Glory of War doing with early Culture? Building Temples seems very uncharacteristic of them, given their "platform".

Also, it seems Vox just got a Culture building in too.

It's odd that we're the religious civ and we're trailing everyone else we've met in culture, isn't it?

I think early Temples are a reflex for many players (just see the discussion in the "Breath of God..." thread). It's nice to see our team is relatively free of such biases.

shhh, don't let DeepO hear you...

I wouldn't mind getting a temple in near future either though.

Edit: added 'mind'

Temples? was anyone talking about temples

Actually, GoW decided very well when they built a temple, but I think the effect will be largely gone because everyone went for one. Vox also has one (as of last turn, I think), which could become somewhat problematic, we need to keep an eye on that.

From the start, I said culture was going to be important to us, in that we can't afford to have less then half the culture of any neighbour, and certianly not less then half of any civ we attack (and want to keep cities, instead of razing them). If we're half as good as the others, we can keep all our cities from flipping with relatively few troops, but if we get worse the number of troops gets so gigantic that we can't keep up.

The thing is, of course, that the other teams are building culture without thinking it through: We will not need temples for the next 2000 years, and the only thing they're good for is culture. What we do need, however, are libraries... we can assume we get libraries by the time we get philosophy, and IM(not so H for once)O we need to build libs asap. If we don't do it, we risk at getting too much behind in culture, but most importantly, we risk not having the best research capacity of the world. And I want to be the best there.

This is, BTW, also the reason why I hate we're back to chieftain: one Monarch (or where did this game start at) at least we had some good come from religious buildings, now it's just a waste of shields and upkeep. Scientific buildings are however not affected, on the contrary, scientific civs certainly are being advantaged by the lower difficulty setting. Too bad, I don't care, we'll more then survive

Suffering from ads?

Nathan, maybe a stupid request, but it would make life easier... could you please start the name fo the screenshots you send with the date, instead of 'power' and so on? It's a lot easier to keep them all neatly organized in one directory... currently I'm renaming everything I get from you.

Thanks,
DeepO

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

I agree. We're not fighting any cultural wars, and due to the low difficulty level and the proximity of luxuries we have no bearing need to build temples.

Darn... I started testing this a bit too late. Nathan, am I right in thinking that if we changed our settler build in EotS to a worker build this turn, we would have finished it exactly in time to first grow, then build the worker next turn? It's a shame, as that would have made it possible to build the worker now (we need him for improvements right now, not in 7-8 turns), making it possible to schedule the chop for the immediately afterwards scheduled settler, and from there on produce purely workers if we wanted to.

I guess the opportunity has passed, if we do it now we lose too much food, and shields. Damn

Tired of ads?

Why not let EotS grow up to six and then start cranking?

If we build workers at lower size we impair the ability of EotS to crank out a Barracks and units as needed.

Well... growing would mean more commerce... but at the same time a delay of a few turns in the improvement plans. I'm not sure, but I guess we could use that chop to jumpstart a barracks, if that fits in the queue.

Tired of ads?

Could everybody take a look at this thread in Strategy:

http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...&threadid=77451

It's about city placement... Sir Ralph and I have come up with something that we *think* might be pretty great (although Dominae has reservations).

I don;t know how relevant it's going to be for MP, but I'd like to get your feedback and info anyway.

Put an end to popups!

1700 BC - Granary 15 turns to completion (using game forest).
1675 NC - Granary 21 turns to completion before the mine was done.
1650 BC - Granary 13 turns to completion. We're on track.

Bugger. There is a flaw in the 1675 scenario.

The 3 Southern Wheat produce a shield prior to mining. That must mean that all were shielded before I put the Wheat on them. I would have thought the Wheat would replace the shield. Damn. I'll have to remake it.

nye, I noticed it before, but it isn't a big problem. Normally, that tile would get mined, so now that the shield is present, we simply have to road it, but don't mine, and continue like it was mined (also waiting with a worker 2 turns, to be precise).
