As far as I can tell, porn is for those sad people who have no skill, no imagination, and no spouse/SO/partner (the same is true of so-called bodice-rippers, btw) so what does it matter whether it's produced with photography or line drawings?

Second that remark doesn't hold any water. There are pleanty of people with partners or s/o's that do watch porn seperately or together. As for skill.......well the porn star's are professionals so I'm sure that we mere mortals could pick up a trick or two

Just because a person watches porn they are sad, pathetic individuals with no life or redeeming value? Alot of people find porn visually and physically stimulating. Tantalizing if you will and this makes them sad? Maybe things are just backwards on ACOL.

on hentai specifically, hentai allows for much more fantasy than your run of the mill skin flicks. i mean, sure there are a few like Dream Quest (starring jj) but that's really it.

hentai allows tons of crap, for whatever kind of freak you are. faries, drarves, elves, trolls, superpowers (think dragonball, sailor moon), spoofs on classic anime, sexy ninjas, chicks with d!cks, chicks with cl!torises that elongate into fallic-objects (la blue girl anyone?) and the uber-weird, yet infamous alien tentacle rape scenes.

then theres just those schoolgirl type things. hentai also lends well to rape, and other illegal acts. it also allows the artist to depiect the character at any age, and just say they're legal. you cant prove sh!t either way.

flawlessness. anime chicks can be as flawless as the artist wants. body toned all over, tanned / poreclin, no tan lines, no birthmarks, whatever. perfection can be achieved in their art.

theres lots of sh!t out there for every kind of freak

You can't arbitrarily just lump people together who watch porn and say that they have no imagination etc.
They'd have to have some imagination to seek it out in the first place would they not. Something would have to stimulate their brain ie: imagination or curiousity.

And as said above..lots of partners watch it together or seperatly to get some ideas to please their mate. And trust me sometimes pleasing your mate does require imagination.

I really didn't expect such defensive reactions, and so far, nobody has answered the question: porn is porn so why does the medium matter?

For the record, my libido is quite healthy and sex more-or-less on demand is one of the joys of married life as far as I'm concerned. But my husband and I don't need porn to satisfy each other. As a matter of fact, it would be a big turn-off to have porn in the bedroom when we're making love.

Ok, I agree with you on that since I recently got married.

The medium was what I was questioning. The point was that yes, I can understand porn...regular porn, I just couldn't understand the cartoon issue.

No, not at all. You won't find many Japanese who'll admit to watching hentai, just like most in the US wouldn't admit to watching adult material (outside of a Hooters conversation, anyway). And there are different degrees. Some of the stuff is just ecchi (softcore), some of it is that really weird stuff talked about in here. Same gradiations as the US, really.

As far as stimulus goes, well, an active imagination is all it takes. Images or pictures of any sort can be quite secondary.
Also, the Japanese tend to see animation as just another medium. It's not something completely relegated to the "for kids" niche.

Something I've always wondered is why is there such few gay cartoon porn? Porn is made mainly for guys, so why no gay then?

I don't consider myself sad and without skill or imagination. I get sex fairly regularly, so I'm not really wanting in that department. But I enjoy porn. And I don't think it's true that means someone doesn't have imagination...good porn, after all, stimulates the imagination. Most people tend to project themselves into the porn and fantasize about alternatives to what happens on the screen. There's also softcore porn, which leaves a lot to the viewer's imagination.

And some porn actually manages to capture what I've imagined for a long time. That's REALLY hot for me, to see something I've fantasized about being made more "real" in the movie.

That being said, I don't get anything out of animated pornography. Just prefer the actual bodies there, I guess.

BTW, Wraith I am still shocked by trying to find ANY anime in Korean video stores.

Here is what I was reduced to:

The English dubbed, American version of Ghost in the Shell re-dubbed into han-geul, with the original dubbing still intact.

That's right, three languages: Japanese spoken, English subtitles, AND Korean subtitles. Second: Japan is a 3 hour ferry ride away. Why the FORK are they shipping American anime all the way to Korea, when they could just buy the Jap stuff and dub it from the source?

Also: Macross/Robotech is about the only other thing....ALSO the American version, with Hangeul subtitles!!

I think it's cultural, the SKs had a dictatorship in the 70s and 80s that really didn't like 'cultural perversion' and those no manga, and thus no anime...

Oh, BTW, in Korean video stores they have NO categories: The returns are just pushed on where ever. Thus, you can find La Blue Girl next to ET: the Extraterrestrial.

Point has been made several times in our house that men are visual creatures.....this seems to reverberate across the board here from the responses I've seen.

Steve says stimulant is stimulant for most guys even if it's cartoon breast. I have a hard time with that one. I don't think Mr. Winkie is going to get happy by a drawing.......then again I'm not a guy
