What do to with our settler? Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Shall we build our first city (Apolyton?) here and now or shall we move the settler first?

----------

ATTENTION!

I left an option out. Therefor:

Instead of "don't know/don't care" read "Skip one turn, open the hut with the worker and then build the city where the settler is staying now".

If you don't know what to vote or you don't care PLEASE DON'T VOTE. Voting the last option doesn't mean that you don't know, rather that you want to skip the turn to open the hut.

One option is missing, stay put. Do not built City. Settler skip 1 turn.
If the hut turns out to be scrolls, then built City next turn.

But I am perfectly happy with moving S too. And I am voting for that.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Moving south? Do you suggest to build a city on the game (which would be a crime) or to lose another turn moving the settler? Time matters. Either move on the hill with the settler, to see more terrain, and build the city there, or build it right where the settler is.

Suffering from ads?

I'm for building the city ASAP because:

1. The current spot is a good one
2. We don't know what is beyond the hills. It might be good terrain, but it should be spectacular (river, cattle) to actually gain something from this move
3. The only problem with this position is that the city itself won't be coastal, while it would have 3 coastal tiles. This is a problem, indeed, but not that severe, taking in account that the city will use those tiles only in the very distant future.

Just my 2 cents.

I too vote to skip the turn and build the city where it is on the next turn

{Edit} - After reading Vlads post...I change my vote to settle straight away, and let the worker pop the hut.

I see more people want this option. How about this: probably nobody will vote "don't know/don't care", so let's suppose that the last option is "Skip the turn and build the city where the settler is now on the next turn".
I will edit my first post to include this.
Is that OK?

Rush: You do realize that we don't get extra food if we settle right on a game tile, right?

I voted to build it ASAP, right where it is, for basically the same reasons Tiberius did, plus I'd like to get that game resource in use right away.

Don't skip the turn. That's not good. The hut won't give a settler (the best it can give), if we have one active. Plopp the city now, or next turn on the hill. Pop the hut with the second warrior, having one around to protect the capital if needed.

Right here and right now. A simple move will not get us into any +3 food situation. The current site is not bad. Warriors will find better spots for the second and third cities. But time is also important. So, right here, right now.

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

I don't see much advantage in founding the city at anyone of the adjacent tiles, and waiting more than one turn would be irresponsible. So I voted found it here and now. Sure, our second or third city will be better for settlers/workers, but that's not bad.

I'd be in favour of building exactly where we are, although I can also see some benefits of moving east onto the hill before settling.
Either of those things would be a decent plan, IMHO .... although as I say if I was playing this in SP I would just settle right now.

I voted to move him 7, but 4 would also be good. taking a hill would do us good (too much hills around us, plus better defense), while keeping the path open to have a coastal city would also be good (so don't settle 8).

Keeping the city where it is now is also fine, albeit a bit less good in the long term. Not using the game costs 5 shields early on, (it takes that long for the SG to get mined), but that is not really a problem when compared with the defensive bonus later on.

Is 2-NE of the settler water?

In that case, move the settler due north to the hill.

That way the city is coastal, it's further away from the jungles that seem to start just south, and there's still space for a city near the game and bonus grasslands, and the capital won't pop the goody hut from the first expansion.

2-NE? what's this code? When we talk about 2, we mean South. 22 or 2-2 is two tiles South. NE would be 9, etc.

8 doesn't make a coastal city, as far as I can see... and keeps us from settling another city on the coast to use the commerce. It doesn't seem a good choice.

I'm going with building where we are. It's not a super-fantastic spot, but it's by no means terrible. As somebody said in another thread, if we get up on the hills and don't like what we see, that's just time wasted. And, should we send a warrior up on the hills later and spot the promised land over the ridge, well, we'll have somewhere great for a second city, right

This is directional code used by Public Works in the C3DG prior to their being very few tiles left to improve.

2-NE = 2 tiles directly NE from reference point.

It is very tempting to get on that hill. But I just have a feeling it won't net any wheat or cow tiles.

So I say build the city ASAP

hi ,

asap , the settler should just move one towards the water , we shall have hills , and in a couple turns the game , ....

have a nice day

OK, guys, we built our capital on the first turn. Be so kind and continue the discussion in other threads, preferrably focusing on what we shall do from now on instead of discussing, if it was better to move the settler or not.

Personally, I think we did fine. The spot is not extremely great, but not bad either. Besides, we have incense in the outer ring of the city. Not bad, considering we are on Monarch.
